1971 World Series Game 2 BALTIMORE 10/11/71 Original NBC Broadcast
Спорт
Original NBC Broadcast of game 2 of the 1971 World Series with Curt Gowdy Chuck Thompson and Toni Kubek from Memorial Stadium. Recorded and Digitalized of som pre recorded VHS tapes ive had in the archives since the late 80s. Not the greatest quality of these rare games from the '71 series, but it's probably the most complete version of this game out there. Recently Restored and remastered to the best of my ability with what I had to work with in these old VHS tapes.
Starting pitchers in Game 2 are Bob Johnson for Pittsburgh and Jim Palmer for the home team Baltimore. This game prove to be the only blowout in the series as the Orioles knock in 11 runs on 14 hits, taking Pirate starter Johnson out early, pitching only 3.1 innings and is replaced by Bruce Kison in the 4th inning. Meanwhile Orioles starter Palmer pitches has a great outing, pitching a solid 8 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 Pirates hits with 10 strikeouts, despite walking 8 batters. Hitting stars in game 2 are Brooks Robinson who goes 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored, while 2B Davey Johnson goes 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Richie Hebner hits his 1st Homerun in the series in the 8th inning (Hebner with 3 RBIs) Dick Hall comes in the 9th inning to earn his first save of the series, and shuts the door on the Pirates as the Orioles now have a 2-0 lead in the series.

One of my life's wishes is to see another day-time World Series game.
I became an Oriole fan in 1966. This series bugged me. I thought for sure the O's would win. But they three-year stretch of '69, '70, and '71 was great.
Love WS day games. Long gone now.
I watched everyone of these games Orioles fan. I hated when Roberto came up to bat because he showed no mercy to Baltimore. Roberto Clemente was one of the greates baseball players, but a much greater man. If my Orioles had to lose I'm glad he was the one who blisterd them. RIP
They need to bring back World Series day games at least on Saturdays and Sundays.
Great to see pitchers with a wind-up. I don’t think today’s pitchers are coordinated enough to wind up.
Game was played on Monday 10/11/71 which was Columbus Day due to rainout on Sunday, teams would travel to Pittsburgh after the game, game 3 following afternoon. and game 4 would be the first W/S night game.

Yes, the game was rained out on Sunday and rescheduled for Monday. I remember running home from school in Pittsburgh to watch the later part of the game and sadly found my Pirates losing 11-0 when I got home. Still didn't lose faith in my Bucs and they didn't disappoint, especially at Three Rivers.
It sure looked like the Orioles had things well in hand after this game, but then, just like in 1969 against the Mets, their bats went silent. After a 5-1 loss in Game 3 in Pittsburgh, the Orioles put up three runs in the opening frame of Game 4, then didn't score again until the top of the sixth in Game 6 back in Baltimore. All told, they managed just eight runs in the final five games of the Series.
I wonder why there was no centerfield camera for this game? It definitely existed in ‘71.

Bucs in 71 with Clemente and 79 with Stargell. Hard to believe how different Bucs were back then compared to 21st century Bucs. Phillies were so bad I rooted for Pirates. Small town or.city with big hearts was Pittsburgh. Steelers were Pittsburgh's number one team and Pirates number two but both both were World Champions on and off the field. Roberto Clemente died too young but a very saintly type death. Steelers Mean Joe Green soda commercial. Small city Pittsburgh with great sports teams and sports accomplishments. Sincerely, Gary Hentz

THE GREAT ONES FINAL PERFORMANCE. BEST PLAYER I EVER SAW

The great one would play a full season in 1972 before his tragic death.

@@leftykoufax7084Maybe they meant to say finest performance?🤷🏼♂️ it’s pretty common knowledge that he played the ‘72 season, got his 3000th hit in the last game of the regular season, then the Pirates lost the NLCS to the Reds on a wild pitch, before the plane went down on 12-31-72.
I would've rather seen the Pirates play the A's in the 71 WS
If Davy Johnson would have slid he could have slid right through Sanguillan's legs and scored. An unnecessary and unwarranted collision. That is NOT how you play the game.
