My goodness. This is the next greatest thing to actually being alive in the ‘60s. 1967 was a great time for music. Music that was groovy, had heart, and soul. I love it.

I know every song played and I wasn’t even born yet for another decade! Best songs ever!

CLEARLY in our orbit back in 1967 the best possible sonic reflection of our times. Even though I was only 12 going on 13 years old. Before heading to SF 1973 on TWA had the experience in 1968 of strolling down Carnaby Street with my father. Then off to grab a taxi cab in Vienna while the driver's radio blasted out Bobbie Gentry's Ode To Billie Joe - that brought me right back home to the nation of "exciting music under the sun". Thanks for posting a pristine piece of 1967. Our appreciation runs deep. Stevie Duster songs 🕶 SD

I grew up in the east bay and I was probably listening to this broadcast. KYA was my station. My friends preferred "Big 610" KFRC, who seemed to play about 40% songs by The Monkees. The "Boss of the Bay" was the best.

Does anyone out there remember when the earthquake (the big one) was supposed to hit in 1969 and they had a countdown for it. When nothing happened they played Shango's Day after day (the whole place slippin' away). I remember sitting in the back yard hugging my dog, listening to my transistor radio and bracing for the worst to come. I'm 66 and that memory has stuck with me. Just me, my dog and my little transistor radio on that sunny day in the back yard. This was my fave station when I was a kid in California. Dad's was radio KEEN which also gave me an appreciation for good old country music. Dad was cool enough to switch the radio to KYA for the ride home if we went on fishing trips or to the beach in his old '56 Buick Special. Good times.

This brings back some great memories. I grew up in San Jose and was in 3rd grade back then watching Batman and listening to radio stations KYA, KFRC and KLIV. What a great time for music. I still have all of the Marvel comic books and monster magazines that I bought back then. My mom threw out all of my Aurora monster models.

Long live the Boss of the Bay! I'm pretty sure I was listening to this back then. This is pure radio and I am so thankful for the memories. I was blessed to work with Russ "The Moose" Syracuse and Tommy Saunders later in their careers. Unforgettably great guys.

Wow. Entertaining and enlightening. The Beatles had “All You Need Is Love”, “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane” out before Winter of ‘67 and none made this Top 10. Amazing…

OMG I love these old airchecks! I really like the ones that include news and weather segments. Brings back memories. Anyone know where I might find a more extensive catalog of these? Not just 1260 KYA.

You can still stream some of these radio show if you go to the San Francisco Bay Area Radio Museum. They used to stream a lot more of the shows but due to a lack of funding they had to cut back.

@Jeanesingsjazz There was also KEWB Oakland earlier and KLIV San Jose & KSOL San Mateo. KYA was my favorite. KSJO had a folk program on Sunday nights playing Dylan etc. Then KMPX leading to KSAN after the KMPX strike. And KPFA Berkeley since 1949. Bay radio ruled.
