1963 GIBSON EB 3 BASS

Музыка

Tom and Mark check out this awesome 1963 Gibson EB 3.
This is a bass that is full of vibe - This is very much a players bass that has been played and used. This being a 1963 model, it is from the 3rd year of production and it is a great piece of guitar history.
The bass features a non original humbucker in the neck , original mini humbucker pickup at the bridge and a varitone knob to switch between the tones.
I must add the that the humbucker in this guitar is not original - the original was swapped out for a DiMarzio 6-string electric guitar humbucker. The pickup selector nob has also been replaced.
It has obviously had some body damage in the past , Like I said above this is a players bass . Apart from this, the bass and all wear and tear is all original.

Gorgeous bass. Always loved the EB3. The bridge pickup is the sound I love. Some Jaco Pastorius stuff would soujd incredible on it.

Loved it instantly, when I heard one up close , on every conceivable setting. And live ?? In the hands of Jack-it put foolish ideas in my head.He left me in a cloud of dust , with my fingers bleeding..But just couldn't afford one - so I manged to spend my entire summers wages ,pumping gas as a 16 year old , for an EB-O. pining for one day having the other pickup added and trim pot etc. My parents were so pissed they refused to help out.Didn't even have money for an amp.Had to borrow a friend's his god awful Peavey with a single 18.

Truth be told, from the old "Those Were the Days" website before it got tooken down, Jack's basses on stage were set to the #2 setting.

Nice exhibition. EB-3's rule. Y'all forgot to mention Jim Lea (of Slade) as a famous EB-3 player, though. :-) He made his roar with a pick and Hiwatts…. Looks like a great bass, I imagine it sold fairly quickly.

That's absolutely crazy, the neck pick up sounds just like an upright (kind of) and bridge sounds like a modern active bass. I think that part of the mystique for those bass is how weird and distinct they sound.

I found one this morning on Facebook Marketplace - it looks identical to this, although the Varitone switch is round, not a chicken-head knob. Something unique about this particular one is also on the rear headstock it has three letters in the middle "USN." The serial number is 700124. Can you tell me anything about this? It has 2 vol controls, two tone controls and like I said, a Varitone knob.

It's a shame they sound as shitty as they do. It took Gibson until the early 70s before they had a bass that could actually compete with Fender with the Ripper. I mean, there's definitely a certain charm to the EB series and they could occasionally be very appropriate tonally, but none of them could 'do it all' like a Precision, Jazz or even a Mustang.
