Hi Paul Congratulations on all the success with the channel - it is my fave by far!! Just wondering doing a profile on D'arcy Wretzky from the Pumpkins would be a great video - especially her live show and stage presence - :) Live she gets such a growl from a J bass would be really interesting to hear your thoughts on that. Thanks so much

It's worth remembering that Jack Bruce was, firstly, classically trained. And secondly, an experienced jazz musician. Both of these made his bass playing a cut above the rest of the time.

Indeed, classically trained cellist. Probably why he preferred a fretless, interestingly, I played classical violin for 45 years before taking up a bass guitar in my 50s I really really struggle with frets but find fretless a doddle to play.

The impact Cream had on rock music is immeasurable. The same holds true of the impact that Jack Bruce had on the electric Bass. They called it "lead" Bass, and he was a true pioneer.

Jack went into the Hospital for his second Liver Transplant. His Body rejected the first. After the operation he was in a COMA for a month and a half. He says in his Book I had to learn how to speak all over again when I came out oof it. A year ad a half later He was playing and singing at The Royal Albert Hall for The Reunion Tour.

Hi - Great video. I made a documentary with Jack not long before his death. 'Jack Bruce - The Man Behind The Bass' - its on you tube off and on depending on the BBC. The pic you use of Jack and his dog on the sofa is great. When we finished filming Jack and I swapped guitars and I now have the Thunderbird on the left of that picture. Jack took my Rumley baritone Telecaster. Great to have met him and stayed friends till his passing.

You obviously know what you're talking about w these terms...but the only thing I can grasp are the sound examples. For ex, I've been able to sound like Jack for years now, but couldn't describe it in the least. the problem is, I learned to play by listening (intently at first, of course) to figure out what he was doing, and then practice, practice, practice. Rock is simple, but since I don't read music, then I'd be limited to what I could play in a jam if it's not Rock, HR or Metal. At times I wish I was initially "trained" by a pro to be more rounded as well as I would've "gotten there" sooner w less effort.

This is a deepdive into HOW they play, not necessarily what they were thinking. Bassists like Bruce did shit because it sounds cool and worked, not about how the blue note creates tension and how pentatonic runs add melody. This video just demonstrates how he did it

As others have pointed out, great video as usual, but that Dukes of Hazard "General Lee" bass is a bit problematic. I unersatand that it may be a spcifically American cultural issue that you may be unaware of, but it's like having a bass with the Esercito Nazionale Repubblicano flag on it.

You are being "problematic" by encouraging the censorship of a long-standing American symbol of rebellion that is valued by those who are not swept by the rewriting of history. Also, prejudice is not copyrighted by the USA. Anyone I have met who has traveled the globe says you can't find hospitality like in the US. Don't believe the racist media, and please refrain from being so hateful towards others for politely flashing their cool electric bass guitar.
