1947 Burnelli Lifting Body Twin - Concept Version
Ғылым және технология
I've been working on this 37" Burnelli twin since early February '24, and I'm pleased with the progress.
There were numerous concept sketches for this design from the mid to late '40s, so I chose one with the cockpit over the left side nacelle, which gives me a wider fuselage for more prop diameter, and a clear airflow to the wide lifting body. Seems ideal for free-flight rubber. I hope to have her ready for the trim field at Wawayanda by early June. Music via Artlist.io.

Really looking forward to this.
Safe flight!
You find the most interesting airplanes to model.
Very inspiring
I just can't wait to see her flying!!! 😉🤗😃
Great work👍🇳🇱
Very cool
This one is going to be stupendous! Can't wait to see it take wing!
Sweet my man
Yes so freaking Amazing.
Great!
Wow Tom! Talk about mouth-watering. Can't wait. Noel

Thx, Noel. I can't wait either.
thank-you for these videos --
Really awesome !
It takes me months to just build a kit. I cannot imagine scratch building a masterpiece that and being so for in only two months.
superb
Ďakujem za inšpiráciu....
Wow! Ready for updates already. Much success! It amazing that on the days of slide rules and pure thought, imagination, that people were able to come up with designs such as this. Lockheed comes to mind, Messersmith, and the 262, all in an era without computers.

Thx. I love that their pencil concept drawings were posted on the web. Loved seeing their process.
Beautiful Beautiful workmanship.
Super skills at hand. Can't wait to see it finished.
Three Dimensional, Functional, ART!
With its large, flat planar flying surface and twin fins this looks to me like it might be one of those wonderful 'wandery', thermal/oncoming air current seeking planes, so great because they behave at times unexpectedly, but in a good way.. Looking forward very much to seeing this baby in the air! Thanks Tom. 🌟👍
This is a Hallman classic in the making! Wonderful choice of subject, and I am highly confident that it will be a good flier

Very interesting ... I,ll be watching for this one .
Echo all the comments on the quality of your construction. I'd have a hard time bringing myself to cover that beautiful structure!
Can't wait to see the trim session!! I'll say this: not only are your aircraft creations beautiful works of art but so are your video productions. I smiled when I saw your glasses sitting there. You never forget to drop them in there. . . .
beautiful work.
Oh, the folks over at Secret Projects forum might enjoy this, there are a couple Burnelli Projects threads and this legitimately is a "Burnelli project" 😁

And my parents, now 83, both built stick and tissue models back in the days before I was, and for a few years after, will have to send this to them too.
Very cool project Tom. Look forward to seeing come together.
Congratulations on that structure! Clean and simple solutions all around. I like the use of temporary jigs cut from foam board. I've used it for similar purposes in assembly. Great stuff. I always enjoy these videos, keep butchering the balsa!
Lire every tome...Fantastic...❤ From France...
Super....
Beautiful work!
Hi Tom, Unique model. Looking forward to the maiden. Enjoyed the article in March Model Aviation and also the video.

Sounds like a plan. Expect alot drag and a hopefully a good bit of lift to go along with it.

That's what I see too...but I can't wait to play it out.
amazing models!
I would love to see a 3D printed Burnelli GB-177 and/or GB-888A
The Bradley Air Museum in Connecticut had a Burnelli in the 1970's. They may have information you can use
Great subject and , as always excellent execution. Hope you post what it takes to tweak the trim.. LQQking fwd to seeing it heading skywards!

I'll be an open book. New territory, like the Boeing flying wing last year.
You are a master builder... I'm looking forward to seeing this model in the skies. Modern RC electronics have gotten so small and lightweight I might build an RC version of this one. Where can I get the plans ?
Might be good for compressed air power
I hope you take it to Geneseo this year. I’m retired now and plan on making a trip out there. Counter rotating props?

If she flies she'll be there. Yes, each of the props will rotate over the top to toward the wingtips.
Awesome! Fascinating forerunner to the space shuttle and BWB aircraft. Burnelli's principle was ahead of it's time. She looks solid! Are the wing diagonals your own design, Tom? So interested in seeing her fly.

Thx. The truss action was inspired by the many plans of my mentor, the late Dave Rees. Check his designs on OuterZone.

Awesome. Any plans to sell the plans?

Thx. I want to get thru the build and eventual trim sessions before I consider a plan. First she has to fly. Then, if the energy and focus remains, I might follow thru. Thx for the interest.
Lovely design, can't wait for its flight.! I'm sure that with such talent and care in construction, you would be able to make wooden propellers. Is there any special reason to use plastic blades instead? (not a criticism, just an honest curiosity).
@maxfliart
3 ай бұрын
Thx, Stan. Yes, the plastic blades are a calculated choice for a few reasons. I've used them on previous, large twins with nose cones and LGs up...so when she lands, the blades will be the first thing to touch, but they give, meaning they bend or flex back...which removes the stress & leverage that could & would transfer to the prop shaft. In all the years with the MiG-DIS & Hodek twins, I've never had a bent shaft while using these blades, which is a bonus, when considering the amount of work it'd be to remove the cones, replace the shaft, then reattach the cones. Seems like more work than I care to deal with each time I fly, so the plastic blades pretty much remove that concern....leading to more time to fly. What could be better?! :-) Additionally, the 32oz. Polly-O brand of ricotta cheese containers are about 40-50% thicker than other brands, so they hold their shape much better under torque. New props = big plate of lasagna or manicotti!

@@maxfliart Thanks for your attention :-)
Kinda wanna 3d print the airframe, cover it, then make an rc one...
Howdy, ein sehr schönes interessantes Projekt 👍🙃👍. Frage? Werden alle Verbindungen mit Holzleim verklebt? Vielen Dank. Grüße aus Brandenburg/Germany 👋🤠.

Y. Los. Planos😮
A few years back, there was a guy on Hip Pocket that was building one of those. I don't remember if he ever finished it, but I always thought it was such an interesting plane. Will be watching your closely. Super interesting.🥸
