190409 Charmhigh CHM-T48VA Places Surface Mount Tex Board
Here's a video of my second surface-mount board design placed by my Charmhigh CHM-T48VA. I also used my stencil 4432 stencil printer with a JLCPCB stencil. Had a few problems that were quickly remedied.

Nice tip about the overhead light positioning.
Congratulations! Following you since I'm in the same business and about to purchase mine, thanks for the insight!

You're welcome. On the next board run, I'll tune the placement speed to improve small part placement. Thanks for watching.
Your video's are awesome. Thank you for sharing your knowledge / experience.

well done
Great work!! It seems that the machine is working pretty well to be a first run. I'm actually considering to get the CHMT36VA version of the Pick & Place and your videos are really helpfull. Would love to know was was the problem with the diodes pick fails. Thanks for sharing!
Been looking forward to this video since you did the unboxing, so thanks very much! I'm looking at this PNP, or the version with twice as many tape/reel positions. Any reason why you didn't get the bigger one? How much of a pain do you think it would be to do a double load if you needed to place more parts?
Most of the pick problems I've had (besides getting the video camera to work reliably) are because of the take-up reel not advancing enough to pull the tape. After a certain number of parts pulled from the tape, the tape collects or loops ahead when it should be pulled behind. That tape gets in the way of the nozzle, not to mention the tape on the part trying to be picked hasn't been pulled back yet. Some have said if you alternate to another feeder for another part, instead of picking all the same part one after another, you can get some additional take-up on the tape before coming back for a duplicate part. I suspect that might help here too.

That's a great approach, thanks for the tip!
I did notice that the solder paste was a little heavy on the IC with the bridge. Hand stenciling usually results in too much paste, so I usually reduce the paste mask a little on those tiny pads to compensate. By the way, how many components can that machine handle? Looks like about 25 reels, but with some improvising, is it possible to add additional reels on the opposite side, and still program the machine to auto feed them?

I'm definitely a novice solder paster, that's for sure. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Did you get a chance to try a lower pull speed for the tape pull pin? When I got mine I tried the 100% speed but it jerks the tape so hard it upsets the part to be picked, thus getting a pick error... Once I dropped it 10% the pull and pick went very smoothly...
Very good video, what about the noise generated by the machine? is it loud?
@CraigHollabaugh

Thanks. The machine is not too loud.
I reduced the pull speed on the pull pin to 10%, most all pull/pick errors went away, allowing for uninterrupted placement... I do not use parts smaller than 0805, lso added a dwell time on place... I'm running the big dual sided reel Charmhigh...

Hi Craig how's everything going with this Pick and Place? I see some youtubers having difficulty and precision with this machine
Hello, thank you for your video and explanation of your P & P machine. I was thinking of buying this machine, I am presently outsourcing my Surface Mounting, and recently started getting my PCB built in China at 1/4 of the price I was paying in Montreal (I should have switched earlier, boards are all around much better). I now want to cut cost even more and start doing surface mounting myself. I would build approx 8000 (3000 of which is only 4 SM components) boards with approx 14 or more SM components per board, could it handle this or would I be babysitting it too much? Thank-you.

The charmhigh requires a lot of babysitting. Check out 'unexpected maker' channel for the machine Seon has.

Actually, if your boards are simple as you said, the Charmhigh might be fine

Do you notice when you use parts below a size, the error increasing? I like to stick to 0805 and larger.

Well not really, 0603 are fine, a slight misplaced part is pulled to pad center during reflow. When I do another board run, I'll take more photos for you and everyone on this and other topics. FYI, there's an on discussion about this over at the Google desktop pick and place group. Thanks for watching.

@@CraigHollabaugh thanks Craig Do you do much with the raspberry pi? I've built a UPS for it and would like to get some feedback on it if I can get one to you. If you'd like that. It's designed to shutdown at power loss and boot up at power returning. Has a switch for manual control. Thanks again

@@CraigHollabaugh got it I see you're in the junction area.. Just passed through over a week ago to Utah and back here near Boulder
When the pull speed is at 100 percent, it jerks the part tape so hard, the smd component is dislodged in the tape pocket, preventing a clean pickup, or the pin yanks on the tape and jerks out of the tape pull hole resulting in an incomplete pull, think partial pitch pull, resulting repeat pulls that cannot find the hole, then with an incomplete pull large parts may be off 1/2 the pull distance... All this goes away with a gentle 10 % pull speed...

Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the tip. My largest placement issue happens during the blow off, it seems like air is too forceful and part is blown off its placement point. Have you seen this with yours?
Sir any problems to this machine after a year? I want to purchase the same any tips for me.

I've had 2 issues, the pull pin and USB port. I have a video here on pull pin repair. The USB port seems mechanically loose and the machine won't always see my USB stick. Other than that, it works fine for the limited boards runs that I've made.
sir i need to this machin so please told me price and availability are you saller thank you
