Many people think of Linux as a basic, outdated operating system only used by tech enthusiasts and programmers. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Linux is a powerful, versatile, and reliable system that is used in a wide range of applications and industries. From servers that power the internet, to supercomputers used for scientific research, Linux is the backbone of modern technology. It's also used in embedded systems, such as routers and smart devices, as well as in mobile phones and tablets. Additionally, Linux is open-source software, meaning it can be modified, distributed and used for any purpose, by anyone. This allows for a vast array of different distributions, tailored to suit the needs of different users, from beginners to experts. Another important aspect of Linux is security, as it is less susceptible to malware and viruses compared to other operating systems. This makes it a popular choice for businesses and organizations that handle sensitive information. In short, the next time you hear someone dismiss Linux as a hobbyist's operating system, remember that it's actually the backbone of much of the technology we rely on today. And with the constant development and contributions of its community, it's not going away anytime soon.

All I can find when I look it up are mentions of niche laptops with built in gyros for screen rotation (I'm guessing 2 in 1s, but even then this issue was about half a decade ago) and people who left their PS4 controllers plugged in and the gyros in that was causing auto-rotation. I'm genuinely curious at this point because it's been brought up a lot and I can find nothing online about it that seems to match as it's described.

As a Linux user, I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux,” and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Linux is a versatile operating system that is used in a wide variety of applications. It is the foundation of many operating systems and has become the standard for high-performance computing, cloud computing, and embedded systems. Linux is used in everything from supercomputers to mobile phones, from gaming consoles to car entertainment systems, and from home media centers to enterprise-level servers. One of the key reasons for the widespread use of Linux is its stability and reliability. Linux has been designed from the ground up to be a secure and stable operating system that can be used in a variety of applications. The Linux kernel is highly customizable, allowing developers to tailor the operating system to meet their specific needs. Additionally, Linux has a large community of developers and users who contribute to the development and maintenance of the operating system, which helps ensure that it continues to evolve and improve over time. Another important factor that contributes to the popularity of Linux is its open-source nature. This means that the source code of the operating system is freely available to everyone, which allows developers to make modifications and improvements to the code. This also means that Linux is not controlled by a single company or organization, which makes it less susceptible to commercial interests and more likely to remain independent and open in the future. In conclusion, Linux is a powerful, versatile, and reliable operating system that is used in a wide range of applications. Its stability, reliability, and open-source nature make it a popular choice for developers, businesses, and individuals alike. Whether you're a computer scientist working on a high-performance computing cluster, a software developer building a cloud-based application, or a home user looking for a stable and secure operating system for your personal computer, Linux is a great choice.
