@@reiteration6273 Get a program like WinAero Tweaker (or change the setting manually) that fully disables web search. Explorer.exe and the Star menu have been buggy since Win 10 tech preview, but at least you can force the web search and telemetry (and dozens of other bad decisions) off with that program. Most of the things are just optional group policy or registry edits that go back to the previous way things worked, or disable new things you don't want.

@@xXGeth270Xx "wine doesn't count" That's... That's a translation layer. Is it intuitive and easy to use? Fuck no it's a huge pain in the ass and needs a lot of work. Unfortunately a tasks are beyond standard daily office use or web browsing using Linux can be a bitch. You'll also more then likely have to yse new tools and ditch a lot of old ones. This is also the chicken-and-egg problem. Users will not use Linux until it has better software support from large companies and large companies will not offer better software support for Linux until there's more users.
@DonkeyDongs9000
Жыл бұрын
@@xXGeth270Xx I get what you mean, I used Mint for 6 months and it felt kind of constricting as a new user, and since Mint's graphical user interface is fantastic, I never bothered opening up the terminal to learn how to actually do anything cool with it like use repositories. I jumped ship to Fedora, and when Fedora eventually broke on me I switched to OpenSuse, but after that I started to understand why people really like linux. I haven't really needed to emulate anything in wine so far (not counting proton) since there's already a ton of great open source linux alternatives, and if I can't anything in the repo list on my system, I've found that there's even more cool shit you can build straight from github pretty easily on linux. But yeah, if you're stressed about Windows and you wanna get out, maybe check out the gecko spin of opensuse and see if it works for you like it did for me? They've got a program called YaST that gives you tons of control like Control Panel in Windows does, and if you need a driver or program that's not natively on opensuse, they've got a community page on their website where people upload drivers and files for SUSE. If you have your computer check for updates, the community files you've downloaded will get updated along with the rest of your computer, too! There's still a bit of a learning curve, but YaST *really* helps while you're getting the hang of things.
