17 YO Model Manipulates Serial Killer Couple And Becomes Her Own Detective | The Case of Kate Moir

“I had a 200% chance of dying, and 5% chance of getting away”
On November 9th, 1986, 17 year old model Kate Moir accepts a ride from a seemingly nice couple, not knowing they’re actually the country’s most dangerous serial killers. Having murdered 4 girls already, Kate knows her time is running out, but she has a plan to escape captivity, that would result in her even being arrested herself by Australian officers.

This is why we see essentially zero actions in response the the MASSIVE pedophilia rings exposed on Instagram. Hundreds of millions of pedo’s exposed, mostly middle aged, married men, with children of their own! All ignored! It is blatantly obvious at this point.

I suspect this police dept might have said, “Gosh, we’ve never had a serial killing here. So she must be lying. They give the person the benefit of the doubt. Now Police know that for potential serial killers, the clock is ticking. They can’t afford to disbelieve allegations of serial killers. They were not connecting the dots. Kidnappings and cases of missing persons often end in murder. This was also before Police were trained to recognize signs of deception when they interview potential victims and potential perpetrators. And now they take a lot longer to determine someone is innocent or guilty. Now, Police don’t assume someone reporting violent crime is lying without investigating their story.

@@EmEm78Doesn't just happen in Australia. Think it was on this channel as well that is the case of another (American) victim who was the only survivor of a serial killer who wasn't believed initially because when they called her home she lived with her abusive grandmother and uncle who sexually abused her, the grandmother told the cops she always lied. She became a police officer if I remember correctly. (there are more cases like that so I may have mismatched the specific details from 2 cases) It sadly still happens too often that, especially when it comes to teenagers or young adults who still live at home, when they are reported missing the first reaction from police is they probably ran away and will be back tomorrow/soon. Police will often have a 24 hour waiting period before it's even possible to formally have them reported as missing and for police will take action. Not sure how this works in different countries or if the laws have been changed now, especially regarding teenagers.

Sadly, even with the short life I’ve lived - I’ve met people who turned a blind eye to all sorts of sexual crimes and that’s just in my own experience. Grown men in relationships with underaged girls, child pornography, domestic violence, revenge porn, abuse, etc. men and woman alike. Old and young. I met a woman once who blamed a 14 year old girl for sending explicit pictures of herself to a man online. She was a grooming victim. The mother of the man said it was the girls fault and she was a stupid little girl, and since her son didn’t touch the girl technically, he did nothing wrong. I’ve seen friends of MINE turn a blind eye to sexual crimes and abuse of all sorts of natures throughout my life and I’m not even that old. From covering up for others to lying, to cases of actual crimes being committed that people just shrug their shoulders and look away from. You literally can’t trust anybody in this world. There are good people out there but the reason these people get away with what they do, are the people who say nothing. People like that are like a disease. They don’t lift a finger to hurt another but neither do they to help. And there are millions of people like this out here who genuinely think it just ‘doesn’t concern them.’ Humans are just wicked and awful.

What a truly brave woman Kate Moir was and is in every sense of the word. I was born in Perth and lived here all my life. I was 20 years old at the time of these murders so most of the girls were around my age, I even worked with Denise Brown's sister at the time she went missing. This was a shocking period in Perth's history and many of us girls were warned by our parents to be extra vigilant. Palmyra was only two suburbs away from my home. We followed this case intensely because it was so unheard of for sleepy little Perth and it terrified us, and our hearts broke for those poor women because Perth really was like one big family back then. Kate Moir literally saved the lives of countless other girls, she is a very special person and I pray that she has some sort of peace in her heart nowadays. Her profound level headedness and extreme bravery during such an horrific ordeal deserve so much recognition. What absolutely defies belief is the male police's attitude to Kate and also the other missing girls. Perth really was a very patriarchal, sexist and misogynistic place back then, and women were often treated as second class citizens. Indeed, when police were called out to "domestic violence" incidents their policy was to "never get involved in domestic disagreements between a husband and his wife", so they pretty much always never took it any further which just gave the abusive man a free licence to beat his wife up any time he wanted to and get away with it. It literally was only due to the dedication and instinct of this wonderful police woman together with the indescribable strength and bravery of Kate Moir, that the matter was ever investigated and the vile evil Birnies charged and convicted. Hopefully things have changed alot in law enforcement since then, somehow I don't think so.

David was raping and assaulting women from when he was 13yrs old, I know people that knew him then, he was never charged with those crimes because of who the victims were the police didn't care, he was given a beating by others that knew what he had done at the time.

I live in Perth & my husband & I ran a deli in the outer Fremantle area, close to where the Birnies lived & carried out their crimes. Kate ran hurt & naked into a little neighbourhood business. 17yrs old!!! Laura Hancock is a hero & shame on the other cops who disrespected & disbelieved her & Kate. The Birnies were true evil. So much more to their story. Living through that time & seeing them ‘performing grotesquely’ in the papers & on the news every day (no social media in those days) was chilling. Catherine Birnie is a mother who left her ‘7’ kids to be with David & rape, torture & murder…next level evil. Their spree & the Claremont killings in the ‘90’s really left an indelible scar on Perth. Many of us knew family members & friends of the victims & as a community supported & shared the horror & grief with the families living through those scary, terrible times. To lose a child in this way is incomprehensible.

Something similar happened to me in south australia. While the guys was holding the knife over me acting out the places he was going to put it, he heard a noise outside and got angry thinking I had called the police so went to investigate. When he got outside I slammed and locked the door behind him and called the police. When the police came, he was still trying to get at me. They knocked on the door and I opened it while he was being questioned in the corner. When I opened the door, he charged me again and the police arrested him and put him in the xar. When I told them what happened, the detective said it was probably a set of keys and I was mistaken. They basically said I had over reacted and imagined it. They said he was delusional and psychotic. It's as if it's too much paperwork for them. Oh! And while he wouldn't let me leave for those few days, he told me a story about kane and able, and about how he had to kill his brother as a sacrifice to the music industry (he made music). Later his brother was found hanging after he was missing for over a year. I know he killed his brother and others

The man who actually kidnapped me and raped and tortured me was given a very reduced sentence and served only 3 mos in county jail. His buddy, the one who stayed with me when the main guy left, was given 7 years. Me? I was arrested because it took me having to break the law in front of the police to get arrested so I could get away from my kidnapper because 1 officer literally drove off and left me standing on the sidewalk when I had slipped around the corner from the kidnapper. He said I wasn't reacting like I'd been kidnapped. What? The next 2 said I was "just trying to get out of the charges." They got it SO, so wrong. So wrong.

Almost missing a huge case which undoubtedly would have caused more murders. Should be fired blinded by tunnel vision , because it "sounded" unbelievable .Crimes are crazy sounding and unbelievable. To be a good cop you've got to be able to SEE this, not arrest the victim because you don't like the crime that's been committed against her. Cause more trauma to someone who just barely escaped her own death, and wants justice for other deaths, and to stop further deaths.

Yes, there are circumstances like stupid young teens getting involved in gangs & being too scared to stand up to peer pressure, who should be given a second chance after rehabilitation. But serial killers or parents who execute their children are not in that category.
