The Beatles didn't invent lots of their musical ideas and were attributed to them when all they did is recycle these ideas from the underground scene. I'd say the most influential band of all rock music is The Velvet Underground, who paved the way for most genres and bands that came after them and not just that, but also broke every border for creativity and freed musicians from record labels, sales and stardom, and hence inventing the concept of alternative music.

I think the fact that the Ramones are so high is because they literally started an entire genre. Now I know how people like to mention bands like the stooges and death, but I personally feel it just isn’t at the same level. The Ramones started in 74’. When they first they first toured England in 76, it was really the first time anyone heard punk music around there. Later that year some of the first singles would be released if the British punk scene. But, the Ramones really influenced every single band to come after them in the punk genre. Even the sub genres like hardcore or horror had the influence present. Now, I am going to assume that you don’t know much about the Ramones, and instead like the other bands you mentioned. Even those kind of lack the influence that you claim. For one, I don’t know why the stones are really on here. I mean, you don’t really hear about who were influenced by the stones in their music. And if you do say they created the genre of blues rock, there were many other bands doing it as well at the time, and before them. I don’t think that they had much as an impact as the other bands mentioned but were just a cog in the big machine that was rock at the time. Zeppelin was influential, yes, but not as much as you make them out to be. They did take rock to a harder place at the time, but other 60’s psych bands were creating just as heavy music at the time. I also think Black Sabbath is a much better band to say created hard rock and metal, as they are the first metal band. The only one that I could slightly agree with you on is Hendrix, but at the same time I feel as if it is a little weak. Yes, Hendrix was out of this world with his playing, and anyone who came after tried to mimic his style. But at the same time, the genre of psych rock was around even before him. A band like cream or the yardbirds were doing stuff as early as 66’. To conclude, AI think you are comparing artistic skill and popularity instead of musical pioneering. In this case, I would put the Ramones higher than anyone else, just for the simple fact that they were the first true band in their genre, and basically created punk as well. Not to say the other bands aren’t good, I am a massive zeppelin and Hendrix fan. But the Ramones are just such a special band at a time where nothing matched them in their intensity and sound.

It's really hard to make a list like this and not feel like someone was left behind, rock was stacked from 60s to 80s, i would personally add The Doors, because everyone wanted to be Jim back then and a lot of bands started to chase sounds close to what they were doing. The Who, well, they had 4 super talented members, My Generation is literally one of the most influential rock songs and their inclusion of innovative sounds in songs like 'Baba O'Riley' and 'Won't Get Fooled Again' was picked up by a lot of groups. The Strokes were pretty much the face of rock in the 2000s and they influenced everyone who came after, their first albums are gold and 'The New Abnormal' proved they can still create top notch albums after almost 2 decades.

Not even going to give it the time of day if the WHO arent there, let alone top 3.... they were at the pioneeing edge of virtually everything... distortion, volume, punk, heavy rock, stadium rock, concept/narative themed albums, instrumental in development of marshall stack, massive pa system. They sought to combine art and rock, using "auto destruction" and volume almost as a weapon, some of the most innovative bass c/o Entwistle, Drums, c/o Moon, Guitar, and early use of synthesizer c/o Townsend, and everything they did was vastly different to their previous work, always trying to push and push, sometimes beyond their limits (Lifehouse) I may be a Sad Old Goth, but its the WHO that anchor it all, anyone else is just an "as well"!

Elvis was not only a rock singer, but also made blues, gospel and country music. So we can't bind him as a rock singer only. Maybe that's why he isn't in this list. But that he was the King, no doubt. I love his voice and realize why my grandfather was such a big fan of him. Such music will never be made and Elvis Presley will take his place next to Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven and Verdi. Or I think he already has, because he's in every music textbook.
