I've been playing sims for about 2 years now, and I never thought about attitude=speed and power=altitude. But it makes sense and will forever change how I fly

Glad you are clear on the concept, Goblin. Now look at vid #3 about trimming. That will also alter your finesse. When you come to dogfighting or strafing your trim will allow you to not fight with the aircraft as your line up a shot.

I speak VERY slowly in this video for the benefit of non-English-Speaking students.

Glad to hear it SK. Learn all the basics first so you can control the a/c, then you can start using it as a weapons platform and other operational tasks. IL-2 is an amazing simulation - as close as one can get to being in the machine. cheers.

@@colninny8769 I definetly will. Agree on the learning curve, but I was aware of that. Meanwhile I got the appropriate equipment (gaming pc, UHD Monitor, Joystick + Throttles, but no paddles). Btw. what do you think about using VR Headset for flying?

@@user-pg9te8ug1j I dont use pedals. I use track IR , not VR, but this game is made for VR!!! Be sure your system is powerful to run the VR. Check out the forums here for VR info. I'd go track IR to start and then go from there. But if you have the budget and system then VR for sure.

@@colninny8769 I'm really excited about VR, but as long as I dont't have the capability to fly properly I think it is a little to much for the beginning (from time to time I need to do a short look on the keyboard, thats pretty cumbersome when wearing a VR headset). Thanks vor adisory and sharing your knowledge in general!

Ronald, first try my how to Fly Flying Circus training vids. They are a better representation of these 5 years old ones. Puter specs is not my thing but go on the IL-2 forum and ask. The fastest yu can afford is the safest bet!

Requiem - www.youtube.com/@RequiemsACTL he does great work, and a lot of it.

So, if I'm at, say, flight level 30, lining the top bar of my aircraft window up with the horizon will result in a particular angle of attack and resulting speed, assuming I don't touch the throttle. If I'm at flight level 50, where I'm that much higher than the horizon, I will require a steeper angle to line that bar up once again, resulting in a steeper angle of attack and therefore a greater speed. If I want the same speed as in the first instance, I must use a shallower angle (or reduce throttle, I suppose), but if I'm to use a reduced angle, there isn't guaranteed to be any particular reference point in my aircraft to use, given that my visual relationship to the horizon has changed at the higher flight level. This is a long-winded way of saying that my points of reference regarding the aircraft vs horizon seem to change at different altitudes and I find this a little bit confusing.

Yessir, you are correct. There are many variables but this is the concept. This is a very old video, but still correct. I will suggest that you look at my flying circus tutorials Lessons one-fourteen. In these I cover these same basics but on a much simpler aeroplane so the questions you ask are covered quickly and simply. Besides, 5 years later, I'm much better at these video tutorials! I love these sim games, but finding a good setup as a left handed player has proven challenging to say the least. I found a joystick that can be adjusted for lefthanded use but a righthanded throttle is a different ballgame altogether.

@@SteveGad actually, off the game I use my mouse in my left hand although right handed. Your'e correct you get used to it fast and reduces overstraining your good hand as well as getting your brain to rethink things.

Every time you turn, you lose your speed. Speed is life. Instead of turning to chase him, climb away, then get your airspeed back and dive on him with the advantage

Hi old guard. By preference i don't fly the Russian aircraft and choose the Bf 109 to do the tutorials on specifically because for beginners there is no engine management other than reducing power after takeoff! There are many engine management tutorials out there; der sherriff and others and Requiem does a good job of the theory of such things. Again we want to reduce the amount of time our heads are inside the cockpit when the real dangers are all outside! Engine management on the Stuka and Heinkel require constant attention and unlike the real world, those pilots have no fighter cover so it becomes an additional burden when may of them can't figure out how to fly straight and level yet! Although we seek realism we put ourselves at a disadvantage if we limit ourselves to engine parameters thru proper management (as it should be) while our opponents on the same server may be flying without it. As flight sims become more complex the CEM (Complex Engine Management) servers will attract like minded folks, and the noobs will be happy to fly in the frantic "Call-of-Duty" style melees with other noobs, which is fine.

hunter go to settings and look at the engine controls. This is not a game you can play properly without a joystick. see my Col Ninny control setup videos

hi their ,my question is nothing too do with speed ect ,i just wanted too say that i noticed that you are using your cursor (mouse ) as it should be a "cursor"....in il2 you have too use the mouse for views,i have a gladiator flight stick and use the hat for views ,is their a way too use the mouse as a cursor soo that i can start the plane manually,for more in game reality....thank you....

@@trevorbarber7172 Nope. This IL2 series does not support 'clickable cockpit' controls. Cliffs of Dover and DCS have such a thing. In this old vid it is present during the editing of the video.

you cant play this level of simulation on the keyboard. You need a joystick. See my tutorials on various setups.

If I point the nose down I speed up and I loose altitude. If I increase the throttle I increase speed and loose altitude more quickly.

That is true. But if you point the nose up and add throttle you will go up! (and your speed will go down) how much you pull your nose up will give you a certain speed.

if you trim for level flight with half power and reduce power your nose will drop and the speed will increase. adding power will eventually bring you back up to tlevel flight again.

the 3 axes of your joystick, X,Y, and Z. And your throttle.

Assumption: you are in the same place I am and are struggling to get started with a combat sim. You cannot reliably take off and sometimes tragically crash out of control and don't know why.
