In this video I do some top speed testing on my Traxxas Slash 4x4 VXL dubbed the “100mph Traxxas Slash Project”. I test the top speed on 4s lipo with some newly fitted Arrma Dboot Hoons on-road wheels and tires.

    Loose the deans plug for a xt90 or similar. Your main issue IMO is, it is way too cold. Lipo's can't discharge large amounts of current in cold temperatures.

    Despite all the #'s that were ran, this is just one more example of how Amazing the Traxxas Valineon System really is! (IMHO). I currently own some 'nice' Brushless systems, but usually default back to the VXL system for my 1/10 scale bashers. Even in non Traxxas vehicles! I know lots of people have had failures or burnt up VXL stuff, but a $10 temp gun, correct gearing, a strong motor fan go a Really Long Way! Not to mention giving the vehicle a cool down break here and there, but I know the last one is Really hard to do!

    Yeah most people don’t wanna wait for the system to cool down. The VXL system has been pretty darn reliable for me. I don’t think it’s the best choice when gearing up though.

    All my vxl systems have been good except my vxl8s esc it went bad on day 26 so traxxas sent me a new one and I sold it for a max6 lol

    Slightly smaller tires will effect your top speed. I think I would look for a different road too, that cement looks kinda rough

    You should try running 8s in it on a 8 scale motor because a 8 scale motor was the biggest motor i got to fit in mine

    When in doubt over power it and that's the best thing..the slash platform will take it.. besides the cv shafts and the center drive shaft.. everything else will take the power.. I run 8s on mine alot

    Do you have a hobbywing programming card?? It defiantly woke my ECS up... My problem now is all the power wants to go to the front wheels..... fixed center diff comes in tomorrow!

    Yeah I’ve done a video on the hobbywing program card actually. I haven’t hooked it took this esc though. Throttle Punch and Braking Force are the main things that can be adjusted. There is only a few different programmable features available for the Redcat Esc. Nice! You’re putting a center diff in your slash?

    Cool to see your road to 100mph, im also currently building up a slash 4x4 to try join the 100mph club. A few things i did differently is using xt90 connectors to handle the voltage and a HW 3200 combo as a starting point for my electronics. Unfortuanately up here in the frozen north will be a few months yet before i can test and run the build Im looking forward to seeing your journey

    With the wheel hexes being bigger and larger rims and probably heavier denser tired you added more rotating mass and different contact patches witch would cause resistance

    The tires are denser but I think the rotating mass is still probably less than with the trenchers

    Time for a heated lipos bag. It's crazy how much difference it makes. Even if you have to keep it on you heater vent in the car but don't let it sit out while talking, it will get cold fast.

    @@RCKnockout yep we use them for fpv in the winter. Check into it. Fill Lipos can seem like a dead lipo in cold weather. Even if though it isn't dead

    Smaller tires equal lower speed and more pulling power,taller tires equal higher speed less pulling power tires are just another gearessentially. essential

    I didn't read all comments but your bigger tires are gonna have an affect on your speed. Is just like changing your gearing. For better or worse. Plus maybe they are heavier wheel and tires?

    Yeah man, you need more volts! Not bigger pinion. You need two 3s my bud for 6s. What's your final ratio right now ? And your right about the tires, your other ones were ballooning at speed which increased your mph but the car will become more unstable as the speed increases.

    I would try a pinion which is 4-5 theeth bigger if you want to run 4s. But the connectors pls no Xt90 is the way to go. Maybe the esc having a hard time pulling the current threw the little connector. Definitely you have to upgrade that connector A smaller spur gear will fit

    Hey man I don't know if you figured it out yet but I think some of your communication issues you are having in this video are due to your connectors gitting wet from the snow. I had the same issue, swapped out my servo, and then eventually swapped out ESC. Came to find out as soon as my plug's got wet that's when the issue occurred

    Definitely Gear up and go to Bullets or IC5/EC5...That may help some. You will need a SMC or CNHL lipo.

    @@RCKnockout Yes. The SMC is used by some people I seen running very fast. The CNHL is what I use, I'm not fast but the lipo is awesome, and Innovation RC uses them. Definitely check them out.

    @@RCKnockout The #CNHL is up to 120C and my 2s and 3s where around $35-45. It has Burst rate of 240C. You may want higher mAh...idk.....they have higher mAh with less Discharge....and less mAh and also less mAh....their budget series but still pretty good. I think SMC also has 120C. but not positive and they have the V2 Extreme that is Graphene and would be the choice of most from SMC. They have the DV series as well, IDK anything about them yet though. Brock Diesel will be reviewing them soon.

    You got 48.2 mph becoz, these dboot wheels are of a less diameter. So per revolution the distance travelled is less, thus speed is less. It needs a substantial amount of gearing up, if you are using this motor. If you use a motor of a higher kv , you may not need to increase the gearing that much.

    Remember I told you before you gonna loss speed on belted 😂. Gear up and used a 6s. I do also speed run before on my 3s vxl got a top speed 67 on 21/54 on a stock tire but on belted i loss almost 10 miles

    Those Wheels may weigh more than your last set, sounds like You have a tight gear mesh, and if you're looking for top speed gear up four or five teeth on your pinion.

    Gear up & 100c lipo or higher but dont leave out your front spoiler you will need to create a lot of down force running that body at 100 mph..

    Hey rc knock out have you also tryed the beginner power setting I have noticed on 3 s not much speed difference but more control so that car on 4 s the hit power on launch should be better then give more power from there the blue tooth settings throttle some times less is more for arrodanimacs your going for top speed not drag race it should help to slow the power increase to max with out flip also gearing is not right

    Buddy, trenchers are not belted so when go 30-40 mph+ they balloon effectively increasing your top speed , with the belted tires this doesnt happen because they dont ballon

    My stock Vxl motor on a wp sct max 10 esc with a 3s 7000mah 100c battery will do more… I’ve gotten 76 mph before I melted the plastic motor mount

    Deans is rated for 60A, XT-90 has a rating of 90 Amps and EC5's are rated for up to 120 amps.

    taller rolling tire mass slow it down i use xt90 on all my cars alot better then deans and more gearing ebay has a mount that u can mount above the spur for a large pinion gear

    If the temps are low up the tooth of the pinion becuse you are runing smaller tyers

    I’d say weight reduction take things that are heaven and change it for lighter parts hell the battery is the heaviest thing on the car

    In some ways I feel like more weight might be more beneficial because one of the issues with the slash is the parachute/sail effect especially once you get going over 50mph

    tbh no hate but im slash 4wd stock with a traxas 3 cell can do the same speed if not faster. try the pinion and spur change. then i would go from there... not much more at that point.

    Yeah it’s slower than with the high speed gearing actually. I’ve done a lot of changes. Stay tuned 😉

    Tires look like 2.2 you should look up 3.8 they will give you a higher top end but put more stress on everything

    These aren’t 2.2s…….they’re 1/8th scale 3.0s….3.8 not gonna fit under the body either

    @@jerridmiranda9557 no worries….3.8 are monster truck size tires….I’d definitely have to cut the body a ton and have wheel extenders to have any chance for them to fit on a Slash…..most Traxxas Slash “Monster Truck” Builds run 2.8s which is about the largest tire that will fit under the body….the body mounts also will have to be lifted to clear those tires

    🤔 You are running a 1/8 scale motor/esc in a 1/10 car it goes with 6s power not 3s or 4s. I have the first generation erevo Vxl 6s system in my slash and if it had wings it would definitely take off , can’t keep it planted.

    The Deans connector isn’t helping. Not hurting that much either. The ridiculously long motor wires are really, really not helping and look silly.

    I'm 3 years late but your tires are not I stalled correctly. There directional and are supposed to go on all in the same direction. Each 2 pack comes with one each of left and right so you need to buy 4 at all times kinda lame but ehhh
