The face acne can occur with cats too! Our senior kitty started developing bumps and issues on her chin, which she then scratched at and made way worse. After a couple of vet visits, they finally asked us what we fed her with... Of course it was just those simple plastic bowls from the store. Even with washing them in the dishwasher, they still had the bacteria buildup, so we swapped to stainless steel and it instantly got better. I had no idea that was even a thing!

@@jrsygrl72 Nope. Italian has gendered nouns, meaning cane (dog) is male regardless of the actual gender of the pooch in question. (just like fork is female and spoon male, for some reason. Don't ask me, romance languages are peculiar like that). So you would use yours in female form only if you followed with a female noun, which can't be cane because it's male. The female noun for cane is cagna, but it's widespread as an insult to ladies who sell their bodies, so nobody uses it. Stick with "il tuo cane/il suo cane/il vostro cane" and you're golden!

Starting at 4 months old, I trimmed my cane corso puppy's nail every day, just a tiny bit, often one nail a day. Now he's 10 months old and 130 lbs. I cut his nails once a week, not too much fuss anymore. Gotta start acclimatizing them early and often. Next step is the nail grinder. He freaks out when he hears it, we are on the step of turning the grinder on and just letting him get use to the sound. Going to be a process just like nail cutting!

he's so cute and such a well-behaved boy! It's easy for cane corsos to get aggressive because of their inborn protectiveness, but it seems like the owners are doing a great job keeping him calm and friendly. Even when he was clearly very scared he gave you plenty of warning and was more flight than fight. On the topic of animal acne, if your animal gets spots on their face, don't assume it's acne. We thought my cat had cat acne, changed her bowls and it didn't get better. Turns out, she's allergic to gluten and needs grain-free food otherwise she gets an acne-like rash on her face and neck. Changed her food and no more rash, plus she stopped getting ear infections because an allergy weakens an animal's immune system and makes them prone to infection. Make sure to bring it up with your vet (which I'm sure Ice's owners did).

Well. After reading around about dry food vs wet food and the risk of DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy) possibly caused by grain-free diets... I have to admit I am not so sure a grain-free diet is ideal anymore. For dogs, it seems that grain-free is actually the more dangerous option (because it can cause DCM). For cats, I'm not so sure, since they're carnivores. But uh, I would encourage everyone to do your own research if you have a cat. I have honestly read many conflicting opinions and I'm not sure what my stance is anymore.

The pronunciation was great but Corso definitely does not mean guardian in Italian (that would be Guardiano, or Custode). Nobody really knows where the word comes from exactly, maybe from some form of dialect for "strong, brave" or even from the Latin word cohors, that means enclosure (but has left no trace in the Italian word for enclosure, that would be Recinto or Recinzione). As an adjective, corso in Italian only means "from Corsica", but that's not it either! 😁

All owners should start nail trimming as soon as the puppy comes home. Just taking tiny bits off. And progress from there. Owners should also start to brush/comb their dog every day or so (depending on their coat). If they aren’t sure how, they should call a groomer and set up an appointment to be taught the correct way. They should also ask a vet tech to show them the various restraint holds that vet techs and vets need to do for care, and begin to do some every day. This would prevent so many issues with their pup going to the groomer and vet. I did this will all my dogs (Rotties) and never had issues.

The vet gave them valium for her during trims but it still wasn't enough. She ended up having to be partially sedated at the vet's office for every nail trim. It was sad and the previous owners never told them about it. She does a good job, but she is a dog lover (nothing wrong with that) so she tends to gloss over the downsides of the breeds. Cane Corso's for example can EASILY become aggressive/dangerous without early, extensive socialization and training. Unless you are VERY familiar with a Cane Corso, your best bet is to steer clear, because getting bitten can easily happen.

Poor pupper. You can tell that he's not trying to hurt you, he's just scared. All those extra, new sensations, smells, and whatnot must be so overwhelming for him. But still, he was such a good boy. Side note; I've never seen a Cane Corso without clipped ears, and he's so much sweeter with those big floppy ears. I've never understood the whole ear clipping thing: it just seems so cruel. I also didn't realise that the breed was Italian, though as soon as you started explaining my brain went "duh!" as I remembered my Latin. Ice also reminded me of my brothers Neapolitan Mastiff, Titan, RIP, with his droopy jowls and wrinkly face. I bet he's a sweetie, too. Lots of hugs from Australia 🇦🇺 🤗 💙

We started on our now 3 1/2 month old husky mix, at 10 weeks, with the Dremel. At first it wasn't actually touching her nails we just got her used to holding her paws and the sound. Slowly introducing it and giving loads of treats. Now she's fine with you dremeling her nails at 3 1/2 months old... So fine with it ... That when we trim the other dogs nails she sits patiently waiting for her turn even after we've done hers. 🤣 She'll do anything for treatos!

Your advices are always great! My cousin's cane corso, Cesare (italian for Caesar, the roman general) went through a lot of training in his first year and a half of life, including nail trimming, baths and socialization with other dogs and people. As a result, he was a really good client for his pet groomer and never had any issue with his appointments for 12+ years (he lived a great life and died at 13 1/2 years of age). My cousin (and all of us, really) loved him to death. I'll adopt one in the near future for sure, since Cesare made me fall madly in love with this breed.

Awesome tips!! Just wanted to mention though if you have an older dog, I’d recommend a ceramic bowl or something similar instead of stainless steel or glass. My oldest pup used to have a stainless steel bowl and started freaking out every once in a while when she was eating because of her eyesight worsening (I assumed what was freaking her out was the reflection/reflectiveness of the bowl). After switching to a ceramic bowl she hasn’t had the issue since!
