Which part was brilliant? Seemed like an ordinary game and Magnus had a couple of blunders in time pressure. I don't see a single exceptional move. I see an exceptional young man, of course, but the game is not interesting.
The boy learned the chess moves 3.5 years ago and started out with a blitz rating of 200.

Based on their ELO ratings, assuming the ELO ratings are accurate, the probability of Magnus winning is 75%, the probability of a tie is 24% and the probability of Faustino winning is 1%.
@RaniaIsAwesome
Ай бұрын
No way that's true. People fluctuate 100-150 ratings points very easily. The lower player winning with 300 rating points is not that unusual, the higher rated player still gets at least 1 rating point if they win (15 if they lose) at that range meaning at least 1 in 15 wins. Hikaru routinely loses to people 300 points lower than him - keep in mind 300 points lower than Hikaru is still usually 3000+ blitz.
@Kuryoku
Ай бұрын
@@RaniaIsAwesome Sounds like you're going by anecdotal evidence, but elo win rates can be calculated based on how that version of elo. Only thing we don't have (unless they were on lichess) is their rating deviation.

Even the slightest if distractions can rattle a grandmaster. Chess is about laser beam focus on the board.
Kramnik: Faustino Oro's style of play is very interesting, to say the least. Does it make sense for such a young, inexperienced player to be able to defeat Magnus? Perhaps a thorough investigation should take place regarding these matters...
@jdwyer5708

Most prodigies are spiritually overcloaked. I.e. They have a highly skilled discarnate spirit (wielding a special ability like in Chess from their one Earth life) overcloaking the child's spirit body unknowingly. Even the overcloaking spirit doesn't know they are overcloaking the native spirit-body of the child too bright for them to see. They think they are the new soul for the child.
❌️ messi ✅️ chessi
Magnus is obviously all around an incredibly consistent player, however, I feel like speed might be the closest thing he has to a weakness. I suspect that Hikaru would wipe the floor with this child. Hopefully we'll get to see a game between the two.
6:19 is when Faustino said he would retire if he can't win this one. Which is many moves before Magnus blundered. The funny thing is that he was making a funny gallego accent during the whole game. He's a beast!
What I wish is how to understand how a 10 year old brain can master such a complex thinking game like chess in only a couple years. It's just baffling when you look at what "normal" 10 year old boys are doing.
Antonio, you are referring a lot at the moment to 'your uncle' implying an old duffer. I remember as a teenager sitting down opposite the old men with the intention of pushing them off the board. That was the 1960s when clocks were only just coming in at club level. Some of the old men would build a solid position and then sit it out, confident they would be awarded a draw by adjudication. Since those days, time, counted in seconds, has become ever more important. Nevertheless, remembering Victor Korchnoi, I think you might not make the equation of age and weak player quite so frequently. Some of us oldsters still have our moments and some youngsters I would still dismiss as patzers. Thanks as always for your masterful commentaries.
Vamos Argentina carajo!! 🇦🇷 Un nuevo día, una nueva coronación de gloria 👑
Cant wait to see the modern day carlsen. Carlsen was carlsen to the likes of bobby tal, all the older heads like kasparov etc. But now we shal see the new generations carlsen. The mind blowing elo rated prodigy capable of making stockfish resign halfways in
When I was 10, I was jumping off the roof of our house with an umbrella pretending it was a parachute. Maybe I should have pursued chess........

Impressive, most impressive!
I can't get interested in all the forms of chess that limit the time a player can study the board. I learned without a clock, and never played a game with a clock. To me the clocked quick games of today take something away from the game, not allowing a player time to study the board and play their best move. This game was a draw all the way until two weak moves by Carlson, first not attacking the corner pawn kingside and disrupting Oro's defense when he had the chance, and second of course his simple blunder losing a knight. But I realize nobody can sit around hour after hour while someone tries to figure a way out of a well-laid trap.

#suggestion: Lisa Lane game?
I think we need to revise the definition of 'defeated' . Defeating should take into consideration 1. Strategically outplaying another player 2. Time control (the greater the number of games you can win against someone consistently in lower time controls should be considered). Kudos to the youngster and maybe even potential prodigy. He played a solid game even sound. I can say he won against Magnus Carlsen but to say he defeated Magnus is a different conversation all together. Defeating magnus is like Alireza winning 100+ Blitz games against Magnus in one night with Magnus winning comparatively same but less than Alireza, like it happened was it a year plus ago. Just my view.
