There's a middle ground here. Use the cell (watered down if that's what they have to do), just have it be a super rare match. Scrap the HIAC gimmick PPV, bring back Breaking Point with a Last Man Standing theme rather than the submission based one the original had, and only book a HIAC match every 2 or 3 years. Overexposure has killed the magic of HIAC far more than the no blood rule.

Dyllon Freeman Well that was about the same time that HIAC became a gimmick PPV so it makes sense. I think even in the PG era Hell in a Cell could still be significant if used properly (a la HHH vs Undertake at WM 28) but booking has run this concept into the ground to the point where the cell serves virtually no purpose in the match.

I don't think blood loss is a determining factor for a good HIAC match. Sure it fits the theme of a "fight-to-the-death hell spawn grudge-ending" theme but I just don't think that's mandatory. But I wouldn't mind if it pops up.

If it's not a blood feud, HiaC shouldn't even be a match stipulation for the combatants. It's built as a demonic structure, not a "go have a great match in this very sporty cage".

I think the only great Hell in the Cell matches in the last few years are Ambrose-Rollins, Taker-HHH and Taker-Lesnar. There have been a few good ones like Reigns-Wyatt and Bryan-Orton, but only three great ones in my opinion.

If WWE would drop the hell in a cell ppv that'd be great, hell in a cell matches are supposed to be special and awesome, with the hell in a cell ppv concept that hasn't exactly been the case. Some matches were good, others not so much.

Why does everyone forget the Armageddon 2000 Hell in a Cell?

The HIAC match with Taker and Austin vs. Mankind and Kane shouldn't be on this list whatsoever. Undertaker didn't show up because there was friction between he and Austin on the Highway to Hell, Summerslam 98 and people were wondering if Kane and Undertaker were in collusions. It was great storytelling.

Sheamus used the stairs so that after the backbreaker, Orton falls from his knee to the stairs which hurts more than the mat... I guess

Taker vs. Shane was better than Sasha vs Charlotte, and Cena vs. Randy. It was all based around a couple of big spots (one in particular), but I remember being so tense about it, that it made the whole match feel great at the time.

Shane vs taker had its spots, but it didn’t make the mark.

The last time the Cell was used properly for a proper send off to a long time feud was Edge vs Undertaker in Summerslam 2008. They had been feuding from Wrestlemania-Summerslam! Taker-Brock and Taker-HHH had the intensity to justify being in a Cell along with Ambrose-Rollins but Edge-Taker was a legitimate slow burn feud that ended in the Cell.

Why am I addicted to these videos, more than the actual WWE show nowadays.

I don't think Taker vs Shane was a bad match, got Awesome spots and it was slow, true, but most of the roster couldn't offer a match with that quality

I agree, I liked that match, also thanks for pointing out the finish, I too think that it was pretty good. Back then Sheamus was projected as a big deal, Orton was having the run of his life and I was 9 years old(bought into the Orton gimmick like anything)!!!
