Frank N. Stein I was the biggest Benoit fan as a kid. After the big bang, I was convinced it was the mob who set him and his family -- I didn't want to believe he did it. Now as an old man it still breaks my heart. But the difference is now I can go back and watch his old matches and enjoy his wrestling. Damn he was good. Most intense wrestler, you were with him the whole time thru the match. And man he could sell moves so well. Felt like a Grecian odyssey ever time he stepped in the ring because he was such a good story teller

"Or two minutes sometimes, if they're feeling Randy." The 2017 Rumble did have a 2 minute timer stipulation (to accommodate that 'Mania-length entrance ramp...) and Orton won. This video was spot on and wasn't even trying to make a prediction! I guess they really WERE feeling Randy.

Yeah to be frank, there isn't a separation of Benoit in the wring and the human Benoit. There *is* a separation between Benoit, and Benoit's brain damage. And the dude had severe brain damage. As referenced above with the 89 year old dementia - it causes problems when someone who isn't 89 has a brain like that. It causes often severe rage, a loss of memory, a loss of function, personality changes, you name it. Do I fully forgive Benoit? No. He did something terrible. However he wasn't nearly close to being in the right state of mind. He wasn't rubbing his hands together and laughing maniacally. He might as well have been a zombie acting on pure rage and adrenaline, and then he very likely woke up, saw what he did, and ended himself to not have to live with being a monster.

2004 was an odd year. no one won the rumble, triple h tapped out to no one in the triple threat at wmxx...so the title was vacant till summerslam where orton was allowed to beat no one at the ppv to become champion...also don't forget the time edge held the tag titles by himself

Thomas Zulli no no no, what happened was, the Big Show felt like tossing the Rumble because he'd already won one. (in 2000) But then, the night of WrestleMania 20, Triple H lost the belt before he was due to defend it in a one-on-one match with Shawn Michaels. There was panic and chaos. For a few months, we had no champion and no championship belt. It was alright in the end, though, because Randy Orton found the championship at SummerSlam, and was rewarded for his efforts with a reign as champion.

Batista had Cena on his shoulders and Batista backed into the ropes causing both of them to fall out of the ring and hitting the ground at the exact same time, nobody knew what to do, then Vince came out and on his way down to the ring tore on of his quads and then tore the other while he was getting into the ring, so he sat down and complained to everyone in the ring and the match was restarted with those two and Batista won properly

I'm pretty sure that in a lot of the Rumbles (could be in all of them, haven't seen them all) that there is always one wrestler who never gets eliminated, and sometimes never even enter the ring. By now there are probably 30 wrestlers who never got eliminated and they can all have a Rumble of their own. :D

Adam, here's a little wrestling lesson for you about the Finlay thing. Finlay ran in the Rumble match in 2008 and got DQ'd, that's because there is a rule in the Rumble match where if you enter the ring earlier than you're supposed to, you get DQ'd for "jumping the gun." Al Snow didn't get DQ'd because he didn't enter the ring when he came out and attacked Raven in 2001 and when the timer ended at 0 and he entered the ring, it was okay. So if you enter the RING prior to when you're supposed to, you jump the gun and get DQ'd.

You missed when HBK was accidentally eliminated by Vader. The plan was that Vader was supposed to go nuts after being eliminated and throw out a load of people, great idea in theory however it went awry when one of those people was HBK, who was supposed to win. Vince had to cover up on the fly so the decision was made to just let everyone Vader eliminated inc HBK back into the match.

Here's one from the 1996 Royal Rumble, that WWE would probably want you to forget: After being eliminated from the match, Vader got back in the ring, and after wailing on the other competitors, he picked HBShizzle over his head, and threw him over the top rope, but then Shawn was back in the ring with no complaints, and the commentators stated that only competitors in the match can eliminate other wrestlers in the Rumble Match. That has never been a rule other than for this Rumble Match. Once again the rules don't mean spit, and have essentially been taken out back and shot in the head Old Yeller style.

It really is too bad about RR 2004. Benoit's performance is amazing and the truely emotional ending with Eddie hugging his friend after a hard fought match is tear inducing. Couple that with JR's commentary and you've got one for the ages. It's just too bad you can't acknowledge it.

Being honest, since I didn't really start to become a hardcore fan until I started watching WhatCulture, which was around when you guys were really small, I didn't even know who Chris Benoit was until I watched the 2004 Royal Rumble on the Network, I was binging random PPV's, and when I saw the stuff with Benoit, specifically the 2004 Royal Rumble, I had no clue who he was, and when I watched him win, I thought to myself "If he was so important, why have I never heard of him" then I got more into wrestling and I found out what happened, and I know that WWE really didn't have a choice but to wipe him from the memory books, but it still upset me that someone so important was just wiped out, hopefully one day WWE at least acknowledges Benoit's impact on the sport, hope at least some people read this, thank you for taking your time to read this.

About #9 - actually, yes, there is a way to get disqualified from the Royal Rumble, and it has happened once before, in 1991. Once your number is called, you have until the next entrant enters the ring to get in the ring, or you are automatically eliminated. Randy Savage was in the backstage fighting Ultimate Warrior and missed his number - I think it was 15.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention the first Royal Rumble. Not only did it not air on PPV (it was originally a TV special on USA that was aired on the same day as a NWA PPV), but it also didn't have the Royal Rumble match as the main event. Instead, they had a 2-out-of-3 falls match between The Young Stallions and The Islanders as the closing match.

Even with kayfabe, wrestlers' real lives and their in-ring personas tend to blur a lot more than, say, an actor with the characters they play in films. You CAN try to separate them from their careers, but separating them is more arduous because the line is harder to draw when it comes to wrestling. Not saying that Benoit's career work can't be appreciated on its own, but, of course, it's easy to see how it tied to what led to his actions.
