I travelled to Hanoi with my 2 children- one in a wheelchair. We had to use a taxi at the last minute and the guy had a meter. He then locked us in the car with the meter being rigged . In the end a really short trip cost us a fortune. I found some (not all) of the Vietnamese took advantage of people in wheelchairs. So be mindful of this

Regarding motorbike rental, and any other situation really, you should avoid handing over your passport to someone. There are motorbike shops that will take cash deposits or if you're going to be there several months, buy a bike. Once you hand over your passport, you put yourself in a really bad spot. If you've handed over USD $200 deposit on a bike the worst that can happen is you're out $200. Not being able to get your passport back becomes a much more complicated situation.

If someone returns with counterfeit notes - do not touch them. Ask for a plastic bag and put them in a plastic bag and tell them you will take them to the police for forensic checking ie fingerprints. This should quickly sort out the problem in this case.

Wow, that's very smart! First time I've heard of this method to thwart the scammers. Just wonder if anyone has tried it that actually worked in real life. Maybe the scammer will bet that you won't actually go through with it? In other words, for them to admit they scammed you, or taking the chance that you won't actually go through with your bluff, or the police would actually go through the trouble of checking the fingerprints on the bill, etc., seem like a easy choice for them...

One tip regarding the currency: I kept my "Big bills" separate from small bills, to make it easier. Luckily, none of the notes in circulation are worth more than about $22, so even if you screw up, you shouldn't suffer a huge loss. I had a wonderful time in VN and met some really nice people; looking forward to returning, as soon as they'll let me in again. (Damn this scamdemic, and the people behind it.)

He said yes, the fare was 100, asked me for an extra 50 at my destination said was for a fee the airport charges. It was still half of what the first guy asked. Insist on the meter and you won't go far wrong or use Grab.

We booked our flight from Da Nang to SGN with Agoda. Flight was a Vietnam Airlines Flight but operated by Pacific Airlines. I checked back with the agency and also Vietnam Airlines and they confirmed, that with my booking I bought a real VN Airlines ticket with the baggage allowance rules of VN Airlines. At the airport they sent us directly to Pacific Airlines and we had to pay for all our flight baggage except hand baggage. There was no baggage allowance in the PA flight. The writing to customer services of Agoda, VN Airlines and Pacific Airlines to chance the booking process didn't help.

Great tips to avoid Scams. I have only been traveling for business for a few years now so you have more knowledge than me. but I am sure these are scams to watch out for in other countries too. So Thank You. I have been lucky and have not been scammed in my travels. I am confident it will never occur thanks to this video. I always take a lot of photos of My bill ( in a Bar ) after each beverage. anything I rent But that is a great idea about taking detailed photos of your room.! The one scam I caught was when I brought my clothes to a laundry cleaning shop In Thailand. Luckily;y I checked all my clean clothes before I left. I had a brand name dress shirt replaced with a local no label one. I said I had a picture of all my clothes on my phone ( I was bluffing ) and they Magically found my shirt and said they made a mistake. Now it might have been a real error but I never went back there. So sorry about your suitcase dilemma. You have Happy travels too.
