I always liked how Trials and Tribblations treated the tech/aesthetic differences between TOS and DS9. They didn’t redress sets or update things to be more contemporary, they just went with “this is how this era was” and wrote a fun story around it.

I also loved how they acknowledged how different the way the Klingons looked in TOS. Yes, they did not have an answer yet, but I love Worf's uncomfortable look when the waitress is pointing out the Klingons around the bar and knowing that the question was coming.

I have to tell this story. My mother, who is no longer with us, loved James Kirk. She loved him so much that she bought me some star trek posters just so she could swipe the James T Kirk poster. When Star Trek Generations came out, I took her to see the movie. After the movie ended we left the theater. My mom was very quiet as we walked to my car. Unable to stand it any longer I asked her what she thought of the movie. In a very grumbly tone she declared "They killed the wrong Captain."

Aw. Nobody will ever understand how hard it was for us original Trekkies. Back then, TOS was the first and only show of its kind. (Television hadn't even been invented/available for many years, and color was just becoming available. And we only had THREE networks to choose from.) With an alien who didn't want to kill us, conquer us, eat us. With so many Human problems (hunger, poverty) solved, now ready to explore an amazing universe. We fell in love with those original characters. They WERE ST to us.

Well it is possible to make a decision to be the better man and when that decision bites you in the ass, as it clearly did here, your regret turns vengeful.
As for the Borg in Enterprise: it opens up a new wrinkle into Q's character: he didn't just randomly introduce Starfleet to the Borg, gaining their interest to have them come to the Alpha quadrant. It means that they were already on the way, the Federation wasn't prepared, and Q knew it. This means that Q was actually acting as a hero to prepare us for the coming threat.

Picard : How can we be prepared for that which we do not know? But I do know that we are ready to encounter it. You judge yourselves against the pitiful adversaries you've encountered so far - the Romulans, the Klingons. They're nothing compared to what's waiting. Picard - you are about to move into areas of the galaxy containing wonders more incredible than you can possibly imagine - and terrors to freeze your soul." Q had somehow already taken a liking to Picard (maybe some sort of time bending thing as they don't live through time the way we do supposedly) but he was there to help. Okay, I was around 30 when Next Gen started, and I can guarantee you that there were no Star Trek fans that had never seen the original series. NONE. TOS had been playing in reruns for nearly two decades by then. If you were too young to have seen it in its first run, you had spent afternoons after school watching it. Star Trek has had its ups and downs throughout its history. I feel that overall this has been a great franchise, and that the good parts outweigh the the bad parts. I've been a Star Trek fan since the 70s when the original series was syndicated. I will definitely keep going.

Lower Decks is an absolute blast to watch. Yes, Star Trek has had their silly episodes every now and again (Take Me Out to the Holosuite and such) but I haven't had so much fun watching Star Trek before. It's such a refreshing series that knows it's absurd and just runs with it.
Other than all the in-jokes on Trials and Tribble-ations (Lucsly and Dulmur from Temporal Investigations !) , one thing that magnificently made it work was finding Charlie Brill to play the older Arne Darvin (spotted at a lunch counter while they were talking about the script - - can't get much more Hollywood than that!)

Bear with me. Back in the 90s rave scene in England I use to say to my dad listen to this, it's amazing, dad said "I heard that originally in the 60s." I so get the throw backs to classic Star Trek now in newer shows because people tell me about certain episodes and I'm like "I remember watching that episode in the 80s".
Nepenthe won me over by having Troi and Riker together. But it was made all the more extraordinary when the name Kestra was first spoken on-screen. I was done. Wonderful.

I love Enterprise, Voyager and DS9 before the original and TNG. Discovery and Picard are still in the air....
"Regeneration" also explains why the Borg were tearing up the Neutral Zone in the TNG S1 Finale. If people recall, they retroactively made those missing outposts the fault of the Borg come "Q Who?", when Data remarked that the damage on J25 matched that of those missing outposts.
I think the reason why Troi works so well in Picard is that they let her real personality let loose.

I liked the way Yar died in "Skin of Evil." She went out like a red shirt, and her death wasn't the resolution to the episode. Also, I could have sworn Sela shows up at the end of "The Mind's Eye." And "Lower Decks" (the TNG episode) was a reward because of its tie-in to "The First Order." We also had Star Trek novels between the cancellation of the original series (which was in syndication) and the first movie.
@julieratliff6705

I never saw Yar's original death as "meaningless." She died trying to save the life of her friend--Troi. Sure she didn't save the day, but that doesn't delete the fact she was there trying. The one who gets a "meaningless" death is Garrett, who gets robbed of her great contribution to the Federation. We have so few women captains, I always regreted Garrett being yet another in a long line of folks dying with something stuck in their foreheads (which was a trend for a while there in TNG) instead of the great unifier for the Federation/Klingons.

The thing about Picard is he was already pretty damaged by the time of the borg. He did have an artificial heart from getting stabbed through the chest. Then all of the loss he suffered during his tenure as a captain.

I was a huge TNG fan. And loved the movies. I never really appreciated First Contact until after I came home from my first combat tour and actually got to know my grandpa and his experience as a POW in Japan. I only watched First Contact once after he passed. And I don’t know if I can ever bring myself to watch it again. “The line must be drawn HERE! And I, will make them pay, for what they have done!!!!” I don’t hate the Japanese and neither did Grandpa. He was able to let his feelings go. But that line. And how I could see Grandpa in Stewart. Really hits me like a brick.
Can we get a video dedicated to Phase II ?
I watched this 1 year after. I wish it were done after STPS3. It was a for sure reward for long time watchers, in an epic way.
Sisko didn't just meet Kirk in his prime, he actually shook hands with him, didn't he?
Picard was a combination of alot of good ideas with next to no direction and a dreadful plot. For example, a possible origin story for the borg: Good idea! The romulan star explosion event and the evacuation story and how it changed the alpha quadrant (and spawned the abrahmsverse) Good idea! Picking up the loose thread of data's death and possible survival in B4 and how his greatest fear of an enslaved android race being created in the federation came to fruition, Good idea! Brining back jeri ryan as the nexus point and subsequent second lead character in the story, Excellent idea! Giving stewart total creative control and then attempting to cobble all of these ideas together in one season with no expectations of there being a season 2 let alone three and thus having no room for flow or natural story progression as in past ST series? A dreadful horrible decision.
I've always enjoyed Undiscovered Country as an excellent film that concludes the original series movies. It's my go-to movie. :-D

Denise is up for it! She said so at Pensacon!
As an aside, I think one of the big reasons we look so fondly upon TNG is the fact that so many of us grew up with it. It was our first Star Trek. And there's good reason for the 3rd season being when it got good. It was when it finally started to break away from the meddling of Gene Roddenberry. Don't get me wrong, the man had some great ideas and we wouldn't have TNG without him. However, he was lacking as a leader. But another spot where TNG thrived was character development. TOS would rarely develop the characters meaningfully, focussing on the mission at hand. TNG was pretty much the same in season 1, but began to expand in season 2. There are many other things that TNG gave us, but I think most are well understood. It inspired the next generation of humanity to be curious, learn, adapt, and discover. Let's go boldly.

I wanted to be Spock more than I wanted to be Luke or Han.

My favorite line from Generations is when Kirk and Picard are on horseback and Kirk tells Picard “Who am I to argue with the captain of the Enterprise?” That’s what really really really made me come to grips with the fact that TNG was the new flagship show. And it made me realize that I’d pretty much seen the last ride of James Kirk and his crew.

I sometimes wonder what Star Trek would be today if The Motion Picture were better. TMP was not bad, the problem was that they took a story that would have worked well as a small screen episode and squandered the budget and amazing visual effects to make it into a movie. Wrath of Khan was a great antidote to that, but if TMP had been done better, future Star Treks could have potentially had a much bigger budget. Would that have made it better? I don't know. But it's interesting to consider.
Deforest Kelley: Dammit Jim, I’m a doctor not a critic.

It was a late night showing, and before the show started there was an introduction to the episode, Space Seed, by William Shatner. He was taking about the new movie that was coming out The Wrath of Khan. It was very unexpected to see him telling us about the new movie, but if I remember right there was a lot of shit for doing it. It was long ago so forgive me if I got some details wrong, but I would love you guys to find the original intro by Shatner. Live long and prosper.
Generations: I enjoyed the horse riding sequence best. Especially since both actors actually know how to ride.
The 1st time I know about the Star trek the animated series was in the transit lounge at Honolulu airport on my 1st trip to the west coast USA in the early 80'S took me three years to finally brought the dvd set
I'm actually glad my wife got me into star trek after we married. She loves all of it (except some of the books written by Shatner) and knew exactly how the series should be presented. I know love all of trek... she couldn't sell me on star wars though.
