@khalidamajou4114 While I've heard it described that way before... ie, as horror (obviously) and comedy... I can't honestly say that I've ever really picked up on the 'comedy' part. Don't get me wrong... there are indeed a few humorous parts with my personal favorite when Peter Vincent is on late-night-tv playing the cliched-role of the 'vampire-killer' wanna-be-hero that just drips with all his "sherlock-holmes / van-helsing" B-movie-cheeziness (especially when he's got the wooden stake backwards🤣)... and "Evil-Ed" being the typical (if not universal) sarcastic, ball-breaker of a wise-ass that I think just about every person grew up with either at home or in school... and even Amy had some funny parts... like splatting Charley in the face in the cafeteria... or Evil pulling his prank on Charley as they are walking Amy home... or, again, Evil wearing that red wig in Ms. Brewster's bed room... But... I don't think either Peter, Evil or Amy were "trying" to be funny. When I think of a "funny" vampire movie... I think of "Once Bitten" with Jim Carrey or "A Vampire in Brooklyn" with Eddie Murphy... hell, even "The Lost Boys" had a few funny parts in it. But, again... I never got or picked up on anything "trying" to be funny in Fright Night... or "trying" to be anything at all for that matter... which is why I think Fright Night worked as well as it did and still does. In fact... whether it was the more humorous moments... or.. even the more erotic/ intimate moments with Jerry and Amy by the fireplace (or... even that of Jerry and Evil) in the alley... In fact, imo... and as much as I hate to admit to it as I do not like homo-erotic references es at all... I think that scene in the alley was probably one of the most powerful scenes in the movie (along with the Charley dream-window scene and, again, Jerry and Amy at the fireplace. All of it seemed very genuine... but... without "trying" to be genuine (if that makes any sense).

i miss the old horror movies themselves. horror movies fell to stupidity some time around the second scream movie (imo). plus freddy and Jason got over done as well around that time. today's horror movies suck in general . when there are special effects theya re over CGI-ed, and every thignthat is done is just a regurgitation of the old movies. but you know with those bile stains and flavors added in so you know it's not an original idea and sort of taste stale. and yeah the art work of movie covers in 80's movies were sweet , even look at sci-fi and fantasy movie covers.

But yes, Fright Night is on ed of those classics in my personal collection and it never gets old.

Hah! Funny thing... back in the 80's I worked at a local "March of Dimes Haunted House. The "Vampire Room" was actually a Staircase and Balcony VERY MUCH Like in Jerry Dandridge's House. Sooo Having JUST Seen this movies I came up with a REALLY COOL Effect for the rooms "Vampire"... We installed a long thing piece of Balsawood on the inside/back part of the balcony along with several small "Pizo " pickups as mics. The "Vampire" wore acrylic Finger nails that were sharpened to points. As he came out of the door and as he walked along the balcony to decent the stairs... He used one of his long "Vampire Nails" to "PEEL" the wood off like in the movie... the director of the haunted house wasn't sure about the effect so I said "Ok... I will pay for ALL of the needed materials. If it WORKS You reimburse me... if NOT then I will take the hit!" Well the effect worked PERFECTLY and it was Deliciously CREEPY and it added to the WOW Factor! It worked SO well that they used it for the next THREE FOLLOWING YEARS there! The guy who played the Vampire even said the famous lines... "Welcome to FRIGHT NIGHT!... For REAL!" It sent SHIVERS down people's spines and sent them FLEEING Into well... a LOCKED Door as the Vampire Descended the staircase to attack his "Victims"! And JUST before he got to them THEN the door would open into the NEXT room! GODS I miss those days! :D

Each taking leaps and bounds in visual effects for the time. I consider myself lucky to have seen them all in the theatre as they were released.

Sarandon is one of those special actors that goes above and beyond the role laid out in the script-no matter if it's a horror comedy. (He looks and acts like he spent a lifetime doing Shakespeare.) He is handsome in a dark sort of way that was perfect for the role. You couldn't walk into any teenage girl's room during the 80's without seeing a poster of him plastered on the walls. (I have 3 older sisters who were teens during the 80's.)

After parents had gone to bed me and my older brother would sneak down the stairs and watch all manner of TV - much of it unsuitable for little kids. One movie that was really scary at the time, and is actually the most terrifying horror movie ever made in my opinion, is Salem's Lot (1979).

Fright Night Part 2 had a limited release because the one who owned the rights was the Menendez brothers' father. The one they killed. Roddy met with him before his murder and tried to negotiate a third Fright Night film and it got so disheartening for him that he wanted to give up. He called the father of the Menendez Bros. one of the most evil, cruelest human beings he had ever met.

I remember asking my mom to take my 11 year old self to the video store on a Friday night because I wanted to rent a scary movie for the weekend. My choices were of course based on the video covers. My choices were (for scariest cover) "The Serpent and The Rainbow", "Night of the Demons", and "Fright Night". I picked "Night of the Demons" as was NOT disappointed! It wasn't until high school when I saw Fright Night. Oh man, I loved it. Great memories!

11th thing you didn't know: There was a third film in the making, but the producer was killed by his sons while crafting it. This now famous and gruesome death turned off all productions remotely similar to the script. The death as you know now is, the famous "Menendez killings and trial."

So I have recently just bought the Fright Night movie book. Its called 'you're so cool Brewster! The story of fright night' and its an extremely rare book as its 1 of a 1000. It was made in 2017 and includes the first three fright nights (1st, 2nd and the remake with David Tennant) aswell as dozens of images of the creation of the movie and a lot of the actors opinions and interviews. I highly recommend getting it if you can and if you adore fright night like I do. It has so much in it, I felt like a kid in a candy store when I went through it. But according to the book, the reason why the 2nd movie was never properly released was because of the Menendez brothers murder (two brothers killed their father and mother) that happened in 1968. Because of how big the case was in America, the film release date was back tracked and it was never properly released. Which is why you can only really buy the 2nd movie with a Spanish title. It also said in the book that both Roddy McDowall and Tommy Lee Wallace had only recently had a meeting with the brothers father - Mr Menendez. According to this book, Roddy had made the meeting a little heated as he didn't particularly like the man and poor Tommy was a bit nervous ahaha. It also says that after the murder, Roddy had rang Tommy and I quote from this book "he didn't even introduce himself and just said 'well I didn't do it? Did you?'" Another quote that ends this chapter in the book was from Tommy which says "Honestly the Menendez brothers killed Fright Night Part 2 as well as their parents"

Fun fact: Fright Night was an actual show that roasted old horror movies. Elvira hosted the show after the original host passed away. That host's name was Larry "Sinister Seymour" Vincent. I wonder if that had something to do with the movie too.

I can see that. Nice catch indeed! I believe the 2007 film "Disturbia" with Shia Lebeouf was also a reimagining of Rear Window (if I'm not mistaken).

This generation has no idea how big that movie was in the 80´s. People sat on the floor in the theaters! Seats sold out for weeks. It was a huge sensation. That is the most iconic vampire movie of my generation.

This is THE BEST vampire movie in my opinion, it has everything, 80's music, cool effects, a good plot. None of that CGI crap. The remake though sucks totally and didn't even stick to the original. The 80's were awesome for horror movies. I miss those days!!

#2 That sequel would've made a lot more sense, considering at the end of the first movie Charlie saw glowing eyes in the window and then you hear Eddie's voice laughing and saying you're so cool Brewster!!! That would've been badass.

9:50 Here's a little known fact that I discovered decades ago completely by accident. At around this part of the movie, while Ed is taunting Peter, they both pass by a mirror. If you pause the movie at a very specific time, you can see someone--probably a stage hand--wearing a blue shirt and crouched down in a corner. You can see them in the mirror.
