Met Doug Bradley back in 2005ish at a Horror Convention. Was such a classy man. Took time to answer countless questions from us fans as well as stand up for more selfies than a 14yr old girls Instagram acct has. Showed him my Hellraiser tattoo which he complemented. Also met Ashley Laurence at the same convention. I have a mahogany and brass Lament Cube signed by them both along with a few Cenobite actors from a few of the later movies. My prize possession.

For your consideration, Mr. H here on KZread has readings from the comics that are certainly worth a watch/listen. He has a wonderful voice. I'd leave a link but it's iffy whether it will stay up but if you type in Mr. H reading Hellraiser comics you should be able to see it. Well done on the Lament Cube!

You should have mentioned one of the reasons for the iconic Pinhead makeup. Originally, the story goes, the makeup didn't include the vertical and horizontal lines. It was going to be just a bunch of pins sticking out of his head. However, it was the makeup people who drew a picture that included the lines so they'd have a grid to go by where they would place the pins. Apparently, Clive Barker saw the picture and thought it made a nice addition to the visual. He told the makeup artists to include it in the final makeup, and the rest is horror history.

Doug Bradley actually helped apply the makeup I'm assuming pins after having seen it done to him after so many weeks if different films. They didn't ask him to be in the last film they rushed to keep the copyright on. Some films must be made so the company rights don't expire. An I don't even want to watch the one wo Doug. Looks like blockbuster recommended b movie that doesn't sell so they recommended it.

I showed this movie in my college theater back in 1987 when I was a poor and starving projectionist. It wasn’t scheduled to be shown, but was used as a replacement when the originally scheduled film did not arrive in time. I remember people in the audience being utterly stunned by how violent and scary this movie was. I even remember someone (I presume a girl) screaming when Uncle Frank sliced open the rat. And when Frank said “Jesus wept”, just before he was finally torn apart? Truly a disturbing experience.

He has the ultimate, "Look, _you_ called _me._ I don't want to be here, but I've got a job to do. It doesn't matter you don't want to be torn apart., That's what you ordered, not me. I've got 56,000 more jobs after this and I'm only 450 years into my 5 millennia shift."

I remember VHS rentals had to be returned by 7pm so I would sit and wait by whatever movie I wanted so that when they put it back on shelf I was there to grab it. I quite literally had the store I used memorized so much it could have been my own personal VHS collection. You have quite a bit of the sequel mixed in with your video clips. The special effects achieved in this film, considering the filming conditions and budget, are astonishing. A true testament to the sheer talent of those involved. It was very much a labor of love for the material and it shows. The footage of frank "growing" out of the floorboards is one of the best things put to film practically, and it was completely made up on the spot. For anyone who has only seen the later movies.. the first two are something special and on a completely different level. Fun fact about the sequel, you can see the crew in the shot of the demon chasing her down the hallway if you look closely, pushing it along on a trolley.

The bit of trivia that I'd really like to learn about this film, is where the scene was filmed near the beginning, with Kristy strolling outside along some sort of port or loading platform near a body of water. It may be Brent Reservoir, since that's near where the location of the house. Wherever it is, that's one of the most interesting structures I've seen, huge, arching steel, and the base is fitted with wheels,. Maybe a drawbridge of some sort?

#1 Bonus. I meet Clive Barker at a Horror con and had him sign a postcard that came with the Tin Box set of Hellrasier 1 & 2. He told me that the ORIGINAL pitch was supposed to be a Demon and NOT a person. As the postcard was the original idea for the movie and it looks nothing like we know today's movie poster/layout.

Fun fact: I shared this tidbit on a different video about H.R. Giger's Influence. May it help anyone who finds this info worthy. Many are unaware of this tidbit but Clive Barker was and still is one of H.R. Giger's greatest fans. Prior to making the 1987's Hellraiser, Mr. Barker would frequent underground nightclub BDSM themed in the downtown area of Manhattan. This would setup the unique leather design to the Cenobites. But he did this to bring upon uniqueness to his movie and not "just carbon copy and paste another man's life's work without proper credit". Mr. Barker was enamored by Giger's works and obviously thanks in part to the 1979's Alien movie. The original Cenobites were actually going to be more "biomechanical" than "organic leathery attire". But along the way Mr. Barker did wanted to leave some of the core designs intact from Giger's works. As a way to pay homage to Mr. Giger's artistic inspiration. In fact Mr. Barker did show his Cenobites designs to H.R. giger to get feedback. Mr. Giger ultimately gave it the proverbial thumbs up. So yeah. The reality is the universe of Hellraiser was going to be more akin to biomechanical than leathery skin whatever. Edit: Forgot to add this tidbit. Mr. Barker did keep the chalky white skin for Pinhead and for the female Cenobite(s) in the first and subsequent films. Obviously paying homage to Giger's white and black airbrush works. Edit 2: Taking a step back to see the Cenobites as they are screams H.R. Giger's Necronomicon IV. Edit 3: Believe it or not the majority of the SFX teams for Hellraiser 1-4 went to go work 1997's Event Horizon. For many years people have drawn a strong conclusion that Event Horizon and Hellraiser share the same universe. Go watch Mr H Reviews video on and All Sewn Up video on it as well. Mr H Reviews brought his understanding about the connection and All Sewn Up did quite an extensive analysis of both films and basically how they relate more than it should because yeah The Leviathan is one scary freaking entity. And it's really freaking scary how The Gravity Drive looks 😳 way to much like The Lament Configuration. Both things opens up holes/gateways to another universe. Edit 4: Go watch HR Giger The Monster Maker by Blind Dweller. That's where I wrote my initial tidbit on the matter of Clive Barker's association with H.R. Giger. Edit 5: When I said more biomechanical than organic leather design I want the audience to see it this way, as in picture The Borgs from Star Trek The Next Generation or even more wildler The Zombified Cyborg Parents from Return of The Living Dead 4 Necropolis. Yeah somehow the Zombified Cyborg Parents are as close to the original design of Tne Cenobites. Go figure. Edit 6: The new Hellraiser 2022 is Clive Barker's original Cenobites biomechanical design(s). Back then in 1987 it was not really feasible due to budget constraints. Edit 7: Check out Tortured Souls: Animae Damnatae. All I can say is wow 👌

My friend and I recently just watched the first Hellraiser movie. It had been a while since I watched it. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Clive Barker's twisted tale of pain/pleasure and evil. This was one of the better overall "slasher" movie. Yes it had it's gore and kill scenes, but they weren't just a mindless slasher flick. It combined almost a Karma-like tale or the curiosity killed the cat type story. The Cenobytes were extremely creative group of sadistic beings. The really wild part was when they added more down the line they showed how their life on 🌎earth🌎 was incorporated into their monstrous new forms. I loved the 💿CD💿 Cenobyte. The first Hellraiser was a well made masterpiece, and the movies that followed had some great ideas/concepts. Not all were great. None surpassed the original, but they all were uniquely twisted, and bizarre and evil. I WISH I would have kept my 📀DVD📀collection of them! But I was a fool and sold them a few years back. Now I can't find them and if I do, they are not cheap! Hellraiser III is for some reason really tough to locate! I'm hoping they do a complete Blu-Ray collection with ALL of them included. Thank you for this video! I have been a fan of horror movies since I was a kid. My Mom and I would watch Saturday Night at the Frights on TV back in the 70's. They'd show the classic Universal Monsters. Frankenstein, the Wolfman, Dracula, the Mummy, and my favorite, The Creature from the Black Lagoon. They'd also do oddball Godzilla Movies during the day, but at night there was the horror book with a Tarantula crawling across it, & that signified that Saturday Night At The Frights was about to begin! She also took me to see JAWS at Southridge Mall's 🎥🎥Theater🎥🎥 and while it was scary for me, I was 7 at the time, it became our movie night. When she became sick I had promised that I'd take care of her and NOT put her in a nursing home. When she got more and more critical she needed someone there 24/7. I was told I needed to quit my job or put her in a care facility. I talked to my job and they gave me a ultimatum. My job or my Mom. I CHOSE MY MOTHER! I wasn't aware that a family medical leave act had just been established. I was too preoccupied with her health and the fact that she had just been on life support for 10+ days. She was now basically bedridden. I had taken home health care classes to become certified to care for her. When she was set to come home I had her Hospital🛌bed🛌 placed in the living room. I wasn't going to stick her off into the bedroom. That created an issue with the 📺TV📺, as we had an older style 25" floor console 📺TV📺 and from her hospital bed she could see it very well. So I did sommE sshopping and found a (remember this is 1989-90 not 2020 or even 2005), but I found a rear projection style TV. It was BIG! Real big! I also got a HQ 📼VHS📼 VCR to go with it. I had it delivered the morning she was scheduled to come home from the 🏥🏨hospital.🏥🏥 They arrived at 9am, and got everything hooked up and delivered by 9:45am. The Medical-Van got her home about 11am. She freaked out. She now had a 📺TV📺 she could see like a Movie theater! When her nurse and nurses aid would come, I'd get a chance to go to the store for groceries, or the Pharmacy for her💊💊medications💊💊, and lastly the one thing she LOVED, and I also loved. I'd stop at the video store and get some movies. Usually about 3, 4, 5, sometimes more depending on what was there, when or what time of year it was. 🎃Halloween🎃 was fun! She always wanted the newest horror movies. She loved 🔪Friday🪓 🔪the 🗡13th, Nightmare on Elm💉💉💉💉Street, 🎃Halloween🎃, the Amityville Horror, and any and all Zombie movies! 🧟‍♂️🧟🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧟🧟‍♂️🧛‍♂️🧛🧛‍♀️🧙🧙‍♀️🧙‍♂️ as well as any Action movie or hilarious comedy movie I could find. We'd spend the next few days watching movies. It really hurt to see her like that. My Mom was one of the strongest people I knew EVER! She could work for 10 hours at a engine factory, then spend 4-6 hours on Friday and Saturday nights waitressing at a upscale downtown restaurant. She was amazing! And she was a GREAT MOM! Those movie nights we had were so special, and so much fun! We'd laugh, yell, scream, joke around, and just have fun! For a while she could forget about being sick. The world has a unique way of kicking you in the head/face/gut! I was recently diagnosed with the same illness that my Mother had, emphysema. I am so glad I got to spend those days with her. She became my best friend, my buddy, my movie nut! I know it's been 20+ years, but I still miss her more than I can ever imagine! Life is so short. Don't waste it on bitterness, anger, stubbornness, or any jealousy or rage. It's NOT worth it. Especially with your family! Mom's and Dad's are too special, too important, and to significant for yourself and especially your kids if you have any. Once they are gone they are gone. Swallow that "pride" stubborn pride, make amends, or if they pass on the guilt will be overwhelmingly bad. These memories I have are special, very special! Take care and God Bless, and make some memories of your own as well!

My interest in horror came from being interested in making of featurettes and practical special effects. In this last year I have tried to watch more pure horror and this was one of the first I sought out. There are already horror movies higher up on my lest but I really like this movie. What I mean by pure horror is opposed to the other movies that I have always loved that have strong Sci-fi or comedy element. I've always loved movies like the Alien movies and Dog Soldiers.
