Before game 5 against Dallas in 2011 the big question was asked. “Will LeBron be able to stop Jason Terry?” That question ended to GOAT conversation. Jason Terry was a very good ROLE player, but ppl forget he was also 34 or 35 & starting to think about retiring. He outscored LeBron & dominated him offensively & defensively for large portions of games. Remember when they wondered if Jordan could stop & score against Jeff Hornecek on Utah? No

@Richard Charles MJ is simply the guy that Lebron doesn't beat in a series. Lebron did have a weak mentality even in his early prime year's. Either Jason Terry was shutting Lebron down or Lebron melted in the finals against the Mavs. The more Lebron grew into a better mentality he also began having some defensive woes. The more clutch Lebron became, he definitely wasn't as athletic anymore. He never had all his tools at one time. MJ was at the height of his prime in every aspect of his game at once, for about 7-8 years straight. His basketball IQ, athleticism, mentality, defense, offense, will, competitiveness etc, were all pretty much at their height during that 7-8 year span. When Lebron's athleticism was at it's height, he lacked mentality. As Lebron became more clutch and a better shooter, he also had 2 season's that he was dead last in the league for getting back on the defensive end. Lebron plays one style which is a great one, and that's all-around. When Pippen would have single digit scoring games in the playoffs, MJ would score a ridiculous amount of points to pick up the slack. And then he would let those teammates know about it in the locker room. He set an example on the court and then confronted teammates in the locker room. That's how MJ elevated his teammates on and off the court. Lebron is a slightly better passer but he has more of a tendency to keep passing rather than become a pure scorer when needed. Lebron is also known to be more friendly in the locker room which has proven to have less impact on teammates, which has resulted in some more finals losses. The will and mentality of MJ put more fear in teammates and opponents than I've seen from Lebron after watching both. MJ almost averaged a triple double while scoring over 30 in the only season he was asked to do so. So he's very capable of carrying a team similar to Lebron while still scoring and defending on a higher level, in an era that played much slower. So he had much less plays to get his 30/8/8. I'll explain the reason MJ didn't continue playing that style too. What many don't know is, MJ had the lowest surrounding scoring cast of teammates among all the star player's throughout history, to still win a title. So that left quite the offensive load on him. That's why his game became more about scoring and stops rather than triple doubles. MJ does what it takes to win championships while Lebron plays his game consistently and it results in some wins. Plus the most advanced criteria given yet has MJ way ahead of the pack. The only criteria given to put Lebron slightly ahead of MJ has been proven biased and also puts quite a few ahead of Lebron himself. So Lebron isn't even goat under any criteria given yet. MJ is hands-down the goat. People will have fun trying to figure out where Lebron belongs on the all-time greats list after he retires. Definitely behind Jordan. Even if he accomplishes much more, he could never be better than Jordan prime for prime. Maybe after Lebron retires people will actually compare him to some of the other greats, that some young and inexperienced media propelled him ahead of without ever measuring them up first. Also, MJ is 11-0 in championship games if you count NBA, NCAA, Olympics etc. And these two guy's are compared as individuals not by their teams. If they had the same win% in boxing, MJ would automatically be considered an all-time great while Lebron would be considered a journey man. If they played against each other in any given era, Lebron may make more finals due to longevity, but MJ would go undefeated everytime they faced-off. Who knows if Lebron would have even grown into a champion mentality if MJ had stood in his way. Lebron obviously didn't grow into that mentality until his second year with Miami, after stacking the deck during his prime to have an unfair advantage over the rest of the league for years to come, in his mind. Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5 etc, in his own words. He didn't know him and Wade wouldn't compliment each other well. And too bad he didn't put the work in or he may have beat the Mavs. But instead he just melted. MJ may have lost in the first round against one of the best super teams ever, but he put up 60 trying to fight through. He just didn't have the supporting cast at the time to prevail. Lebron may have made many finals appearances but he also played in the weakest eastern conference of any era. Least win totals for the top 8 seeds and anybody can look that up. Wade and the Heat gave the blueprint to beating the Pistons the year before Lebron beat them. And those Pistons struggled ever since the Heat broke them. People can brag about Lebron beating the 73-9 Warriors team, but they had no business in the finals. Steph and Klay were young and declining each playoff round. That team almost got beat the series before. Curry just wasn't ready for the big stage. Just the year before, Iguodala came off the bench to get MVP over Curry in the finals. Only reason that team had so many wins is because Kerr revolutionized the game with best two shooter's ever to share the court. But they wasn't a fraction of what they were in the regular season when the playoffs bagan. MJ may have never beat a team with that kind of record, but that was because his team was the Juggernaut team to beat, except Jordan elevated his game in the playoffs unlike the young splash brothers. MJ may get surpassed one day, but Lebron won't be the guy to do it. He's already been too much of a failure. MJ = reigning GOAT.

Lebron has a totally different play style then Kobe and Jordan they were scorers you could expect 40-50 and score in the tough , biggest moments lebron however is great is his own way he knows how to make his teammates better he understands the game real well he’s good at al aspects of the game which is why he’s in the goat debate yes he doesn’t have the rings than Jordan and Kobe but his ability to be held accountable and lead 3 different organizations to 9 straight nba finals and the fact that his all around game is so unique he can he’s got a little bit of everything in his game he /can pass rebound block , his leadership and iq are way better than any other player he’s just different from Kobe and Jordan in his own way you might not have him better than Jordan but his play-style is completely different so let’s not hate on him for what he has accomplished and he is certainly better than Kobe

I don't care how many statistical records LeBron breaks or how many more championships he wins, you cannot recreate the impact and talent MJ had. Every 6'4" to 6'7" guard coming into the league with a little game is automatically said to be the "next Michael Jordan" or my favorite tag "baby Jordan". And as we know none of them reach that level of greatness. That's an unrealistic expectation of anyone. We may never see a two way player as skilled, and completely free of flaws as Jordan. The man had no damn weaknesses. The league has been in decline ever since he retired IMHO. Steph Curry and the Warriors brought some excitement back to the league, but nothing like MJ and the Bulls. LBJ groupies are already acting like this first round loss vs Suns means nothing. After years of telling MJ fans that losing in the first round is bad all bc they couldn’t get at MJ’s finals losses, so they attacked his first round losses early on lol. Difference here is MJ lost early on in the first vs great/elite teams, not as favorites or coming off a title. Great players lose early on, it happens. LBJ didn’t make the playoffs his first two years. Back to the difference here....LBJ lost as the favorites, coming off a championship, while he was an “MVP candidate” at some point this year, according to his fans/media. Lost to an inexperienced Suns team with a hobbled CP3. In a series where LBJ was getting outscored at certain points in the game by Cameron freaking Payne. It didn’t take long for LBJ fans to go with the “LBJ has no help” card, propping up the Suns after talking shit all week about how “it’s over now LMAO” when LA was up 2-1. Dudes were waiting for 2018 LBJ, said it was gonna happen but are now saying “well he’s 36 & has no help, plus he’s hurt” after losing....worst fan base ever.

MJ is simply the guy that Lebron doesn't beat in a series.

Except that he is not. LeBron James is the greatest basketball player to have ever stepped on the court. All you Jordan fans keep harping on the fact that MJ is "6-0" because that is the only stat ya'll have going for you that LeBron doesn't have. LeBron has lapped MJ is almost every stat there is. You cannot discount all of that simply because LeBron has played longer. The fact that LeBron is so healthy so late in his career should be a testament to his greatness. It shouldn't be held against him but since Lebron has that in his favor, it is not considered. Tbh that's what the MJ vs LeBron debate is all about. All you MJ fans only harp about rings because ya'll know LeBron has only 4. But when people start talking about the things LeBron has in his favor, it's not taken seriously. Forget about titles, lets talk about the ability to play basketball because if it's about achievements then MJ is nowhere close to being the GOAT and we all know that. MJ was unidimensional. He could only score. He was a poor passer and an average rebounder. But since scoring passes the eye test more often than not, the other facets of the game are looked down upon. LeBron is taller, stronger and faster than Jordan. LeBron is a dangerous scorer who can score 50 whenever he wants to, he's the best passer this game has ever seen and is a great rebounder. Now lets talk about this "killer instinct" BS you Jordan fans take great pride in. MJ had an ENORMOUS ego. That is what all you fans mistake for "killer instinct" and its absolute BS. LeBron is not egoistic at all and that shows in the way he plays basketball. He is okay with his teammates being No.1, MJ couldn't stand being second. LeBron loves to see others succeed, MJ desperately wanted to be the only one who succeeds. LeBron is a great teammate and helps other become better, MJ was a terrible teammate and helped his teammates by punching them in the face. This debate has reached a phase where you Jordan fans, unfortunately has no legitimate argument to make without saying 6 rings and thats sad. Once it's all said and done, that gap between the real GOAT and MJ will be so glaring that even Jordan fans will realize how saying "6 rings" won't matter.

The longer LeBron continues to play, the easier the argument becomes. Jordan was a six time Champion by the age of 36. If Jordan really wanted to, he could have stayed at the Bulls and challenged for another Championship. LeBron is 37 this year and no sight of another championship, let alone two to match Jordan. He will lead in stats buts that is due to time in the NBA. The only reason I choose Jordan is because he was a ruthless winner. He never gave up and carried the Bulls when they needed him the most. The Bulls have never won the NBA championship again since his time there and that speaks volumes. In fact, the only titles the Bulls won was when Jordan playing. The only player that should be compared to Jordan is his apprentice, Kobe Bryant. End of discussion. Five NBA titles with the SAME team spanning a 20 year career. Air Jordan and Black Mamba will always be most remembered.

    1. Jordan has a higher offensive career rating 2. Jordan has a better defensive career rating Jordan averaged more points, got more scoring titles, and was a better free throw shooter, but also was the better defender with more defensive selections, earning first team selections late into his career. Jordan is objectively better offensively and defensively. He accomplished more in far less time than LeBron. Notice, I never said the words, "6 rings"

Also he’s undefeated in the finals. And in 1998 he basically brought the team to the Finals himself. Rodman was out doing whatever he wanted, and Pippen was trying to get a better contract by not having surgery earlier. I’m not “delusional” I’m just looking at the facts. Lebron is number three in my book. 1st is Jordan, Second is Kobe, third is Lebron.

Jordan didn't win anything without pippen so don't pretend like he didn't play well and rodman would still get his rebounds even if he was out partying. @@seattledaffyduck5243 The GOAT argument is ultimately useless and impossible to settle, but you should fact-check yourself before making claims as if you are a basketball expert. Lebron has won a scoring title. Jordan did not win 9 defensive player of the year awards, he won one. Lebron has come in second in dpoy voting twice. I give a lot of credit to Jordan for his 1998 run, but don't disregard Lebron's 2007 and 2018 carry jobs. To debunk your initial claim that Jordan is superior in every way, Lebron is a much better passer and has greater basketball intelligence. However, these arguments are far too simplistic to determine who is better. Your abundant misinformation screams delusional Jordan fan to me.

for those who thinks 90's rule and today's rule are the same... look at these. 1. Restricted Area. the 4-foot ARC below the hoop appeared since 1998. "a defending player can not force a charging foul within this area." It means it's supposed to be easier to score. 2. Footwork: "Gather Step" was introduced in 2009... only then could Lebron win his first chip. a player could literally run 20-feet up the hoop without dribbling. that "gather step" would mean travelling foul before 2009. There are more. but these two are enough to allow easier plays.

Those are rules showing that NBA sacrificed fundamentals of basketball for entertainment thus further degrading the quality of the game. Majority of today players would miserably fail to make in the old school (80-90 era) NBA due to the lack of basis. No wonder today NBA is seen as a joke and a shell of its glory.

You need 2 things to be the GOAT. A great career and a great peak. I solidly believe that MJ has left a significantly better career/legacy and a slightly better peak. I don't believe it's reasonable for LeBron to either have a second peak better than his 3-year Miami stretch nor reverse some of the black stains on his legacy. This is coming from a genuine Bron fan and a person who watched the game of basketball because of LeBron.

Jordan would have arguably had championship success much earlier in his career, if he just switched to a successful team, like Boston or the Lakers. But he didn’t do that. He chose the hard way and earned his championships building his own team at Bulls. He was arguably coming off his peak even before he won his first championship.
