    @@solace4114 Good on gas and I use EV often to go around town. It’s great you can just use regular plug to fully charge in 5 hours. No complaints 22 months in.

    I just bought a 2020 Prius Prime Limited. I’ve had it about a month. On a long trip the plug in isn’t useful unless you can charge at your destination. It is about like having regular Prius. Around town it makes a big difference. It comes with a 110V charger cord that plugs in to any 110 socket, but it takes over five hours to charge. I installed a 220V AmazingE 16 amp charger cord that charges it in a little over two hours for $219 plus breaker, plug and $15 Shipping. Total under $300 and worth it. The number of pure electric miles I get on a charge depends on the ambient temperature, usually between 27 and 34 miles. I always use hybrid on the interstate. Some suggest always accelerating in hybrid and then switching to electric when up to speed. It does seem to work, but you burn gas. This is my fourth Prius and it is certainly the best. I would have bought a Tesla, but the State Legislature in Louisiana, where I live, passed a bill blocking Tesla out. I heard that the Auto Dealers Assn lobbied to keep Tesla out. Louisiana is such a corrupt State...Even our governor, whom I voted for, signed the bill. One vehicle that was not mentioned in this piece was the Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid which gets about fifty miles on pure electric. Downsides of the Prime are: Too few electric miles Much Less space in the trunk area because of the battery No spare tire. None. Not even a donut. There is a jack. $34,700 was a bit steep, but I get $4,505 tax credit. Else it is a pretty good little car. I like it.

    On long trips use up your Ev Miles then hold the HV - EV button to recharge your battery to 80%. Once it reaches 80% the EV kicks in and you simply just rinse and repeat until you reach your destination.

    I just took home the 2021 Prius LE. Why? Because I'm 6'7" tall and of the 3 cars that I could actually fit in the driver's seat comfortably, the Prius had the most head room and leg space. Fell in love with it immediately for that reason alone.

    I've loved Toyota's since the early 80's but never fan of the Prius...it was butt-ugly in the beginning. In 2017, our daughter totaled her car so needed something else. Since my wife's 2008 Corolla was bullet-proof (no issues) we let her have it and shopped for a new Toyota. My wife saw a Prius 2, we test drove it, and since it was near the end of the year I got a great deal. Now, we love the Prius so much, I just bought a 2021 Prius AWD for my commuter car...just in time for these crazy gas prices. She's getting around 65 mpg....SWEET!

This car is reliable beyond imagination. My next car will be the Prius 4 Hybrid because these PlugIns still arent able to pull a small trailer and the Hybrid one now can pull a small one. Its not the best looking car but my bank account loves the car because of the mileage and the reliability. Thanks for your video.

    Please make sure to use the gas portion too because if you just end up using the EV portion the gas will corrode your engine and other metals parts in your car. Happens a lot with other people who drive around 20 miles or less. And end up having to get their prime towed.

    So it depends on where you live to an extent. I commute a long ways so the battery doesn’t last long. BUT with the plug in hybrid you get the federal tax credit opportunity and in California you can get the Carpool lane stickers for 3 years. The regular Prius you can’t. Also, where I live the electric company (SCE) gives another $1000 rebate just for buying a plug in hybrid. So for those reasons you may want that.

    It makes total sense considering all the miles your on the road! I'm admittedly not a fan of priuses but it would almost be silly for anyone in your situation not to get one! There is also a huge benefit you didnt mention. After driving a low horsepower car for a week while your on the road ,once you get into your challenger or BMW you'll appreciate there performance even better! Lol! I'm usually home so the wife takes my challenger during the week to do her running around (funny how that works!) that leaves me with her 4 cylinder ford fusion to drive! Let me tell you when ever I get the chance to actually drive my own car it's like the first day I got it! Lol! Paid $4000 this year in repairs...although overall I’ve been lucky with repairs for 10 years. In any case, thinking bout the Prius or the Honda Insight. Are these cars comfortable? marco polo honestly you’d be shocked at the Prius. I think because it’s a Prime with the battery in the back it rides so solid and it feels like a much bigger car. It’s hard to believe but when I went to test drive one I was shocked how smooth it drove. I cruise at 80-90mph like it’s nothing and have averaged 85mpg so far. I would not have bought it if it was a bad ride and loud. No kidding. It’s as quiet as my bmw believe it or not.

    Ron Aspin yes I did and it’s the only thing I could find comparable to the Prius. The only things that tipped me to the Prius was that 1. The interior with the huge Tesla like screen appealed to the nerd in me, Toyota has literally perfected the hybrid so I know it’s bulletproof, and (this is going to sound stupid) the Prius screams out that you bought it for its utility value over everything else and as dumb as this sounds, when someone sees me in the Prius they know I bought it for the gas mileage, carpool sticker, and reliability. And as a car guy, I felt the Hyundai isn’t known enough and people would assume I actually bought it because I liked it. Most people don’t even know it’s a Prius clone. So I don’t know if they’re making any significant changes for 2021 and I believe that since they did make some bigger changes for 2020, like relocating the battery to make it a 5 seater vs 4 in the 2019, that they likely aren’t making any huge changes so you may be better trying to get a good deal on a 2020.

    My 2018 Prime has about 7,000 miles on it. I've filled up twice so far with gas and am averaging 325 MPG. I'd fully expect this car to last me 15 years with very minimal problems. Is it the greatest looking car, no, but it's certainly a car that will last me forever and I have no worries about the battery pack in this car, even without an active thermal management system. I hear a fan kick on when I plug it in to charge, I trust Toyota knows what they're doing to keep this battery good for many many years! I might be biased, obviously, but why do people hate Pruis's so much? Because they're slow, pass me. Because I like to save money on gas, man I'm a bad guy.

    I was in the same boat trying to save miles on regular gas vehicles and bought a Prius. The economics swayed me. I have the regular Prius and definitely looking for a Prime but they are scarce. I do rideshare and the top question is how much does it cost to run it. I'm like when I drive my regular cars it's 2x or 3x more expensive to drive as far as fuel and mileage. Tires are cheap. It just makes me feel like I'm making adult sense in the Prius. Let the rest be immature and spend 3x or more than you are spending to ride down the same road going to the same store.

    gobear2002 nooooo. Tesla pulled an “Apple” by having their own connector but Tesla gives you an adapter to the J1772 standard electric plug that literally every other electric car has and every charging station (except Tesla’s super chargers) has. It comes with a Level 1 J1772 which plugs into your normal 120v home outlet and it charges in about 5 1/2 hours. You can buy a Level 2 J1772 with the 240v plug for $200 on amazon but you need to match the plugs as there are several. In my opinion the Level 2 isn’t needed since you can charge it overnight easily on the 120v. And at charging stations I tend to get it from empty to full in 3 hours.

Honda Clarity is a bigger sedan, better EV range 47 miles ( I get about 55), bigger Fed rebate $7500, better dealer discount $7k off MSRP, and better ride for me. The only thing the Prius is better than the clarity is 54 mpg vs 44 if you drive in hybrid mode. My daily drive is 25-50 miles so I hardly use the gas engine.

    I'm considering between regular one and the prime. But I don't have a garage. Sales person said it's not safe to charge Prius Prime from the regular outlet (in my basement or a hallway for example) while the car is sitting outside - in case it starts raining or snowing - is that true?

  • @ocmotivator

    @ocmotivator

    4 жыл бұрын

    Honestly, i don’t have the answer for the rain or snow, but if you bought the prime, and only charged it when it wasn’t raining or snowing you’ll save money. Not sure what state you’re in but the regular Prius in California does t qualify for the carpool stickers or the tax rebate, or the electric company rebate. Having the electric option is nice. But if you never charge it at all, you’ll still have a perfectly good hybrid Prius so unless it’s a huge savings then I’d get the Prime and at least have the option to go full electric. Oh and where I live there’s always chargers or special parking for EV’s that I get to benefit from with the Prime.

    @@ocmotivator I'm on the East Coast, in Rhode Island. So I can charge while my car is outside and cord is plugged through the window into my basement wall? :)) Crazy. I have Honda Civic hatch, - wonder if it's similar or less cargo space....

  • @ocmotivator

    @ocmotivator

    4 жыл бұрын

    Definitely less cargo space but I couldn’t imagine not having the electric option. Not only does the car drive way better in electric mode but it gives that extra 25-30 miles each day or no use of gas. I’d make sure you’re not losing any federal or state benefits too. The $4500 tax credit for the Prime seems like reason enough to get it.
