I got a 2004 pt cruiser and I saw the compartment under the passenger seat in your video and ran outside with my keys to see if mine had it. When I tell you I was in shock that is an understatement.

Another cool feature (for its time) in the rear cargo area is a 12V power outlet mounted on the right rear wall. This lets you charge your phone or power your Bluetooth speaker while tailgating. My wife tested that fuel warning a few times when my 2003 Limited was hers.

All vehicles with a trunk have a glow-in-the-dark latch in the cargo area to assist anyone trapped in there to escape. It's actually federal law in the US that it be there. I have a 2003 PT Cruiser, base model, non-turbo, with the manual transmission. To put it into 5th gear, you move the lever all the way to the right and back. That's pretty normal and my shifter knob looks nothing like the one in the video. I am pretty sure that mine doesn't have that storage drawer under the passenger seat for CDs and cassettes. Pretty sure. I'll have to run out and look to be certain. Also, I bought the car to use for my business and I have the passenger seat folded into a desk all the time. It's extraordinarily handy. I also fold the back seats all the way up regularly. I got it (very) used, though, so I didn't get that hand dandy rear package shelf or the cargo net. Which is too bad. I would have loved to have those in my car. Finally, I spent 17 years as a technical writer in the automotive field. Typos sometimes get through regardless of how many eyes have seen the copy before it is sent to print. We did our best to prevent that, of course, and when one is discovered it is embarrassing. But that's human error for you.

Thanks for highlighting to the Cruiser's uniqueness! While i personally prefer the interior of the 2nd gen, the car was always an homage to classic styling, with the added bonus of modern versatility. From the refrigerator door handles to the cueball shifter, every detail on it was lovingly designed! PS- fabulous collection - the crx and inSight are 2 other dream cars of mine

I used to own an '04 PT GT 5-speed. Was like a rocket and sounded great. Decent fuel economy. One weakness was the rear Watts link that rattles after 20k miles or so. Replace it with a MOOG unit. The other issue i had was with the jack shaft; the splined connection between the CV joint and the shaft simply wore out so we lost power. The transmission shift pattern is typical of the Getrag transmissions. I had to offload it before it's time because the exhaust valves in cylinder no 1 lost compression.

More than likely it has to do with the shelf in the back being a rigid piece which then classifies the back storage area as a separate compartment, as opposed to the usual fabric roll out covers most cars have. Though that's just speculation on my part.

I had two 2nd-generation Touring models, one automatic, one manual. Easily the most versatile vehicle I've ever owned. As someone below suggested, folding the front seatback forward allowed me to carry 8-ft. lumber. I once took the back seats out and fit a full-sized recliner chair (in its box) behind the driver. Driver's seat was too hard on long trips - felt like I was sitting on a brick - and fuel mileage was always disappointing, but I loved the exterior styling, and on the 2nd-generation interiors, they included an analog clock, which almost made up for the towel bar on the passenger side. Quirky, but ultimately cool, I think. Replacing the timing belt was VERY expensive, so when mine got to 98K miles, I traded them.

If it was convertible, that would be even more rare. There is a select few paint jobs that are also hard to find.

Love my PT GT. But don't test out the low gas chime. I can't express how bad it is to let your gas go that low because now you're sucking air into the fuel pump and you're going to seize the fuel pump. People think it's okay to run your car on fumes and to let it go that low with the chime don't do that you're going to be in for an expensive repair bill other than that love you video of the PT Cruiser

I know it was based off of the Neon and I think they should have had a V6 option too. And the Prowler should have had a V8 option. Then maybe Chrysler wouldn't need to be in bed with the Euro trash.

No way. From someone who owns multiple Cruisers I have to totally disagree with the interior and exterior of the 2nd Gens. First, the interior looked even cheaper and more "plasticky" than the original. Then it has that "paper towel" roll handle on the passenger side which was absolutely ridiculous. Second, the outside headlights change to the scallop headlights and getting rid of the lower grille and put in that chicken wire look. These changes are the reason why Pt cruiser sale declined. They started from 06 on when they introduced that 2nd gen crap. They changed everything that made people loved in the beginning. Yeah everyone started to change their views to the retro car designs but the Pt would have lasted a little longer without all those changes. 1.6 million sold in 10 years is pretty good. These will make a comeback, maybe not new models but the old ones being seen more often
