I am 71 year old woman. Who owns a 2002 PT Cruiser with 88,000 miles on it. I love this truck/car. I bought it in 2003 with 41000 miles on it. So in 18 years I have added 47,000 miles. Yes I am now a woman of a certain age but a cool one with a cool car.

If it wasn't for the PTs general unreliability, I wouldn't have met my gf and love of my life for 4 years and counting. Hers broke down on the side of the road, and I stopped to help. We hit it off from there. She sold it under my advice shortly after. Well, junked it, since the engine was basically toast. Thank you, PT.

PT, a love story.

I had a 2005 base convertible with the 5-speed. Ten years of trouble free use. Fun car with 32 mpg on the highway. Loved it.

I had the PT GT version of this car, which had the neon SRT motor in it and the 5 speed Getrag. There's no better face than a "I just got my doors blown off by a PT Cruiser" face.

I have a 2001 Green PT cruiser. It's my daughter's car now. I named it "The Turtle" and now it's a part of the family. It has 260k miles on it and going strong. Replacing the motor mounts is a nightmare btw.

"That guy is in a PT Cruiser, give him a break, there must be something wrong with him" Hahaha, so on point!

PT cruiser was my school's driver's education vehicle. I attribute my genius level driving ability to this majestic machine.

Mine is way cleaner underneath than this one is (06 base model with 198k miles). I have no clue how because i do not take care of it at all. Its a peice of shit pt. I run it rough as hell because i dont care about it because its got a ~$450 trade in. Heater core blew up on me the other day and just bypassed the filter because fuck putting 1.2k into a car that i hate. I keep expecting it to actually blow up sitting in a parking lot but because i hate it, im afraid it'll hit a million miles before it actually dies.

I remember the time when the PT Cruiser's waiting list was 3 months. They could not make them fast enough.

They are a good musician car! I play both string bass(classical) and electric bass rock and roll oldies the PT is a great bass player car! Not a "hip"car , but they carry a lot! Quite decidedly useful! I got an ' 05 carries all six feet worth of string bass and a 30" stool that doesn't fold up! You already know about speaker cabinets and amp heads! I'M keeping mine! Sorry to all you tragically hip! A '65 mustang is cool to look at, but I can't use it for anything if you can use it great ! Me? I'm a bass player I have to be practical!

You're a bass player which means you probably forget your bass or your amps or both at home anyway (if you even know where you left it that is) so you could ride just as well in a 2 seater sports car. At least you would look cool then, which probably is nothing you can afford to ignore as a bass player. Also, usually bass players don't have the money for a sports car so you could really stand out.

Kye Moser my mom had this exact model. Same color with the wood grain trim (woody edition, I think they called it) she absolutely loved it. I learned to drive in that car. These things in my opinion got such a bad rap. They were surprisingly fun to drive! Almost go kart like handling.

My mom had one that was a higher trim model. Better looking interior and better rims and I actually liked it. It wasn't that bad of a car. Pretty comfy to drive tbh and pretty practical

I had one of the first PTs. Preordered while I was in college. Took it directly from dealership to get Borla exhaust and Eibach springs. I tried to make it cool, until I gave up and sold it to my mom who proceeded to add a woody kit.

I live in a suburb outside Atlanta so no salt on the roads... In 2000 I helped my father in-law buy his wife a loaded PT cruiser limited...grey suede leather under a candy apple red paint job. He had to ORDER it and it took 4 months to be delivered....they LOVED CHERISHED and took amazing care of it driving it about 3,000 miles a year. Last summer...my mother in-law was hit from behind just outside her subdivision. Minimal damage but when the insurance company told her it was TOTALED, my father in-law went bananas...he simply couldn't believe it was utterly valueless. Well..they did give them about $3,400 bucks but said it was TOTALED and refused to repair it. So sad. He was soooo proud when Chrysler came out with something that he could afford and give to his wife, that resembled the old 32 Ford hot rods he cherished from his youth. He really deeply knew it was a master stroke buying this future collectable and..was devastated when the irony of it being worthless almost 20 years later kicked reality up his asshole....I mean it hurt him real bad. I am buying one..a 5speed manual for $1,000. It's rust free perfect interior good running and a cheap turbo project to give him. He is a stalwart American car guy and she drives a Cadillac CTS now. He drives a Silverado Z71 as always. Both new. But he will love his PT cruiser gift and maybe that's what this car is all about. Some things are hard to understand but this....not really so much.

The intro was so good it actually made this car look attractive.

Jesus, 2019 is flying by. It's already the 1st of April!

I only bought it because, like they joke in the video, I needed a cheap car with a warranty, and being a teenager at the time, my options were limited. But I have to admit, once I bought it, and got over the embarrassment of owning one, I really warmed up to it. I ended up keeping it for 5 years, which was a long time for me. Never broke down on me, never needed any warranty work done. I only got rid of it because I prefer my daily to be under warranty and traded into a CPO Civic Si. I know the PT Cruiser is the butt of many jokes, but I have to admit, my time owning one was genuinely not bad at all.

Mateusz Sobie I don't blame you, I have three 1:18 PT Cruisers that I detailed in different ways, all with basic details like seat fabric felt carpet and headliner, one looks like 2001, another like a 2002 limited adding a dummy sunroof and a roof rack, and a 2003 touring with basic details from that year. They are all special and I smile every time I see one too.

I personally have loved the PT Cruiser since it came out. I even remember as a kid talking with a friends mom once about cars I liked as an eleven year old and she goes "why do you like that? It's slow, and built on a neon chassis" (didn't know what a chassis was at 11) hated her after that. I even got drive one when u was a teen as my mom had an accident once and that was our rental. It actually was kind of fun. It's weird looks are kinda what draws you to it. It's fun to look at. It didn't look like much else at the time. I thought it was cool, so sue me.

It's a nice vehicle that doesn't draw so much attention, I have a 2003 model with a manual transmission and I'm really satisfied with it, I couldn't ask for more, driving and being inside the PT is a crazy idea Haha

My 2005 PT has 154k miles and surprisingly still going strong. Ive had it since 07.

@@danielc1417 Well... I'm not thousands of dollars in debt from car loans so I don't need an EBT card so I'm not sure. You see my savings is to large to quality for one because I don't have any auto loans sucking my money and bought an inexpensive car in cash.

The weird thing is that it is such a bad car, but a huge financial success. They sold so many, and I heard stories that when it was just released, People paid significantly over sticker to get their filthy Boomer hands on these.

I walked into a Chrysler dealership, picked out the car I wanted, shook hands on a deal, and went to finish the paperwork...and saw the dark blue turbo PT on the showroom floor. Two minutes later, I was shaking hands again. I have purchased 22 new cars in my life, and the only worse car I have ever purchased was a Subaru Justy. Even the Neon was better.

True review! You love 'em or hate 'em. I've done the Jags, BMWs, Mercs and I own 4 Volvos. My daily drive is my 2003 PT Cruiser because it makes me smile.It's as reliable as any Aston Martin or Range Rover and costs about the same as a set of car mats. Thanks savagegeese catch you again.

I always liked this car because it was so universally hated. I never saw anything wrong with it. If I were in a pinch and needed a car and this was all that was convenient/affordable, I wouldn't have any problem owning one.

The wood panels really enhances the car's already majestic looks. It's also space grade material. The wood paneling used here is the same that's used on the space shuttle and the international space station.

Such a beast. It simply oozes with engineering perfection. One day I will own this car... One day...

I got a 2003 pt cruiser limited edition-LT. I had mines for 10 yrs and its still ticking. It has get up for sure. You are right about that. Its roomy inside even though it looks non roomy on the outside. I know i fit up to 5 people in it. Also its good on gas ...good on maintenance. Everybody says the pt is garbage but why so many other car companies mimick it like the hhr the honda cross tour...why because the pt put it on the map. This is one of the best Chrysler inventions. They should have kept it going w new yr models..thanks for sharing. Good video.

I bought one in 2002 and drove it for 10 years. Love the car. Cargo space is awesome as he said. Too bad Chrysler did nothing to improve the car throughout the production life, so it was ancient by the time they stopped making it.

The biggest issue with Savagegeese is that I never know when he is being sarcastic or real. It's like when ladyboys holla at you.

You laugh, but I will tell you that I owned an 05 which I bought used when I lived in FL. I owned it for 8 years, put over 179,000 miles on it. It never failed me. A battery, a brake job, the BCM after 140K...nothing more until after 160K. I ultimately sold it simply because I am now disabled and with my back fusions and knee issues, sitting that low wasn't comfortable for getting out of the car each time. I'd run it up to 130mph on my work at times, it never hesitated. And the GPS doesn't lie on speed. AND GUESS WHAT...I'd buy another one from the south IN A HEART BEAT for a back up/second car. The funny thing about the PT Cruiser Is even as FCA products go.. this stands on Its own as one of the grossest vehicles ever made. It's a special kind of yuck.

@Idlia Dosai I had 125k miles on my original timing belt when the turbo bearing went out. We bought it new and abused the crap out of it for most of those miles. Most reliable car I ever owned.

I cracked up when he said "design and attention to detail" while they showed the long plastic gear shift.

I remember once when I was a kid someone gave me an RC pt cruiser as a birthday gift and I instantly started crying at the sight of it. Back in the early 2000's, those were tears of frustration and anger. Today, after watching that intro, they're tears of joy lol. Great video as always geese!

Thanks for the review. The advantage for those of us who have finally gotten over ourselves. Having an amazingly built car paid in full and more money to enjoy life. Can't wait to buy one did not realize the room with a enjoyable, safe and comfy ride! Cheers

I've never owned one but, I liked them then, I like them now. I rented them a week at a time in Vegas and my favorite go-to rental car there was the Convertible Turbo PT Cruiser. I also never met a PT owner that hated it. I also love the z3 styling. Haters gotta Hate.

Well, opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one! So here's mine. I owned, or should I say leased two PT Cruisers, my first being a "Pre-Launch Edition" 5 speed manual in early 2001 and the 2nd being a 2003 Dream Cruiser II with the Hi-Output Turbo and a 5 speed Getrag Manual Gearbox. Never had, nor desired an automatic so I can't comment on that but do know the 5 speed was at least 1.5 seconds quicker to 60 mph in the base version with the normally aspirated 2.4 liter. I did have to replace a watt's linkage bushing on the 1st one but it was covered under warranty and that was the ONLY issue I had with that one. You were Spot-On about the versatility of the interior. The rear parcel shelf's adaptability is still without peer and the fold forward front seat was a brilliant idea. There was also another pull out storage bin under the front seat. With the parcel shelf in the mid position, and all seats folded, everything was flat. You could throw an 8' step ladder in the thing and close the hatch. To this time, I've still never encountered another vehicle which has easier ingress/egress. That's probably why you still see so many seniors driving these things today. I don't understand why your passenger was SO com-plaintive about the seats because my wife and I drove this vehicle several times over 350 miles in a day with zero complaints about discomfort or back fatigue. Some of us also actually PREFER cloth seating in a vehicle. The 2003 Tangerine Pearl Dream Cruiser II was an absolute blast to drive, and to my eye, that was the best color ever put on a PT. I've seen SO many street rods that have used Chrysler's Tangerine Pearl paint, often in combination with Pearlescent White, and they too look astounding. The 2003 Dream Cruiser II was an extremely rare combination as only 2,400 were built (each one individually numbered) and 90%+ were automatics. With mine being a Canadian 5 speed edition, I doubt there were more than 10 with that configuration in our entire country. That Getrag transmission was brilliant and exhilarating. I could power shift that vehicle all day and never miss a shift and the synchros survived in tact for 4 years. I drove the shit out of that thing for 4 years with ZERO problems. Took it to the dragstrip and with the rear seats removed, it ran a 15.0 quarter mile at 94 mph which wasn't too shabby considering the weight of the vehicle. In fact, based on the running weight with me in it, the speed achieved in the quarter mile calculated out to 217 Horsepower at the wheels. Not bad for an engine that was rated at 215 Horsepower at the crank! The true power of that engine, (also used in the Neon SRT-4) was deemed to be in the 250 horsepower range by Car & Driver Magazine but they figured it was down-rated for Insurance Purposes just like in the old days. Although Premium Fuel was recommended, and that did affect dragstrip performance, it was not required and the PT ran fine on regular fuel for highway trips. At the time my buddy had a stock 1990 Mustang Cobra Convertible. He was pissed that I blew him off in the quarter mile with my PT; enough so that he put nearly $20 thousand dollars worth of mods into his engine. Obviously, I never beat him again as his car then ran in the high 10's at over 120 mph. Actually, I wouldn't expect you guys to be enamoured with the PT. You're too young. This car was built for Baby Boomers who had fond memories of cars from the 1930's and a love-fest ensued. Some folk went absolutely nuts and I've seen PT Cruisers with over $100 thousand sunk into them. Crazy! For 5 years running there was a "Cruise The Falls" event at Niagara Falls Ontario and well over 500 PT Cruiser's from all over North America showed up; some from California in enclosed 18 wheelers. Lots of fun for a bunch of old farts. As it turns out, leasing was probably a wise idea for me as they were obviously corrosion prone, particularly in the salt laden rust-belt of North America. I had my Dream Cruiser rustproofed and undercoated at the outset so it still looked good when I traded it in after 4 years. Thanks for the memories!

We bought the 2003 Tangerine Pearl Dream Cruiser GT when it was brand new and someone was jelly and egged it in our publix parking lot. This was flat out the first one on the showroom and my mom loved it.... it was the Auto turbo but honestly, it wasn't really that fast but holy crap it ate tires. It was actually a great highway cruiser honestly. I drove the older Non turbo version from Ohio to Florida without being tired or sore. After that GT however , the market crashed and we were forced into a 2007 Subaru Impreza with no down payment. If I could go back though I'd have talked her out of wasting the money on that lease and bought something faster and more fun. That GT was freaking 30K. Big rip off. We were just in love with how it looked. The first sporty looking PT Cruiser.

My wife loves convertibles and I'm a retro nerd for the 1920's - 1940's so our silver, base, convertible PT Cruiser came home from the dealer in 2005. We liked that it was a "practical convertible" in that we could put two of the three children in the back seat through the extra long, two doors. We hated the compromised trunk as it was such a pain to use with a lot of stooping required. The 5-speed manual transmission in our base model made the most of the 2.4 liter, non-turbo engine. The high H-point seating ("like sitting in an office chair") was really comfortable . We really liked the retro styling, the retro door handles, and we had the last year model where the horizontal grill extended below the front bumper. I thought the facelifted version was a compromise that took away some of what made the styling of the PT Cruiser so unique. Never gave us any problems. We sold it in less than two years to another romantic couple that wanted a convertible with a manual transmission and no care about horsepower. It gave way to an F-150 SuperCrew pickup. We got tired of the four seats only and that damned rear trunk. I wish we had just bought the hardtop, PT Cruiser, five door model with a sunroof. It would not have rusted enough to notice here in the Sunbelt. I still see at least a couple of PT Cruisers every week around here, although the convertibles have gotten rare. For really weird retro, check out the Chevrolet SSR, a half sports car/half pickup truck. They still have a cult following.

@@jeffc1347 I can understand that. But I, a Baby Boomer born in 1948 still appreciated the style of cars from the 1930s. My uncle had a 1932 Dodge Pickup Truck, which to this day is still my favorite memory of any driving experience I've encountered. You could pull that thing into high gear at 10 mph and just chug, chug, chug along. No horsepower but the torque was amazing and fun.

Cruisers in great condition are going to be collector items one day. ♡

I've owned two PT's, one we bought new in 2004, and the other was the GT version bought in 2015. Both were great, and the GT model screams. One thing he forgot to mention in this vlog was the fact the coin holder was an insert, and could be removed to clean. It wasn't just a thoughtful addition, it was well thought out, they could have simply left you with a molded coin holder, but instead made an insert to make it easy to clean. This shows the thought process's that went into making this awesome car, it's a one of a kind!

My longtime friend from high school bought a black PT Cruiser GT as her first car. She still owns it, even though it’s falling apart. I had an S10 Blazer and was generally quicker than most other students’ cars due to the high torque from the 4.3 V6. I was feeling cocky and said let’s race the PT against my Blazer (we were high school kids) and she blew my doors off in that car and it genuinely surprised me how this “crappy car” could be so quick

@@Reparo96 I also had a Mustang GT 5.0 V8, and the PT was quicker, though not by a lot. It also couldn't achieve the top speeds of the mustang, and didn't handle anywhere near as well. I used to do the 3 1/2 hour trip to Vegas in 2 1/2 hitting over 150 mph where traffic allowed, or where it didn't allow as I was absolutely nuts in that car, it was so much fun, and the adrenalin rush was worth every dime I paid for that car. I still love the cruisers, and your truck likely lost due to gearing as both are probably similar in weight, and your V6 had 20-40 more HP, and torque depending on version/year. I bet it got better gas mileage than the 4 cylinder PT GT! 😁😎👍✌🎄🎅

I own a PT cruiser and my wife used to have one. This video is spot-on most people make fun of it but it's actually an awesome vehicle.

Great review. I used to love these when they came out, but they definitely didn’t age well. You nailed it though, my teenage daughter loves them and wanted one. I couldn’t do it since they aren’t known for reliability and safety or anything else really....

I just watched a 20min video on a PT Cruiser, and I loved it...

"PT Cruiser best car ever made." I know sarcasm when I hear it.

With social distancing in full force, I stumbled on this KZread channel earlier today looking for decent SUV reviews. This PT cruiser review brought back memories when this sucker was THE CAR to purchase if you can believe it. Can't remember when they actually debuted, but I remember when I was introduced to one in 2002. I was a ASE tech (non chrysler) and one of my fellow techs bought one brand new after being on a waiting list and paying full MSRP. He was so excited and wanted to show it off. Seems laughable now, but the PT was considered a marvel of efficient packaging, like a Chrysler minivan, only smaller with a dose of nostalgic style. Back in the late 1990's-early 2000's Chrysler still had innovative product making it to showrooms before Diamler sucked them dry and offloaded the carcass to Cerberus.

I learned how to drive a stick in this thing. My aunt had one for her film production company. Basically, the car was a work van before they ever began with that concept. All the seats were removed at all times and the front passenger would fold down to make an easy workspace for being on location. For such a small car you could fit a whole set in it with all the equipment you'd ever need for independent film production.

Who else thought this vid was gonna be about the AMG GTR 😂

I own one of these cars and I think theiy’re beautiful.

My 2003 only has 99,000 original miles and I’m really surprised how sturdy it feels while driving. It hugs the road with no body roll. The seats are actually really supportive and comfortable

I'm looking for three. I want a convertible, the high-performance version and an LE with that wood paneling. First drove one of these in Canada, where they know the true value of car quality! Scared the shit out of me coz it was so brutal. Hopefully soon my garage will be graced with three PT cruisers, the best car ever made!

I have to admit... my ex and I bought a GT Turbo Cruiser one time and I actually grew to like that car. The thought of a PT made me cringe for sure when I first came across it, but that little car with a 5-speed manual and 220hp turbo did become fun to toy around in.

My mom still owns a 2001 PT Cruiser. She loves the car, and I must say, it's amazing what Chrysler came up with 20 years ago that we still don't see implemented as much today as we should! Some people cringe at the PT, yet I ask them, find another car of this size that can do as much as this car can do, and do that 20 years later! I own a 2015 Kia Soul, and even it has some features that can't compare to the PT! The styling was so forward thinking, and admittedly, it may not have aged as well as it could have, but it still gets loads of looks and people asking about it! Nice job on the review, and great job from Chrysler!

I still have my 2002 Pt cruiser, no rust, I'm the second owner. I already did the timing belt. If you do this, you can do any job in a car, Because it was very difficult, but I was happy with the results. I love it, I take it everywhere, go on vacation, etc. Even if people trash on it, Its reliable. It only left me once at a parking lot and it was because of the battery that went bad. Its 2020 and I had a drive from Mexico City all the way to Kansas City. No issues. Never going to sell it.

That's definitely one of my favorite things to do on road trips, it's interesting to me seeing the types of cars the general public drives here in the states. Even my buddy who is smart with cars often sees something and says "what the hell is that," to which he's usually a bit surprised I know what it is without being close enough to read any kind of badge. I'm not bragging, it's just a strange skill I have, good knowledge of even the most boring and average cars.

I clicked the video soooo quick expecting .... a Silver 1994 Toyota Celica ST with the three speed automatic

I just bought a 2002 PT Cruiser base model manual transmission for $1,900 on craigslist. 67k original miles. Not a single scratch,dent, or stain on the entire "truck". Previous owner says it was overheating and two different mechanic shops were going to charge him $3,000 to fix it. Got it home and all it was was an internally clogged radiator($225). I swapped out the radiator and flushed the coolant and it runs like a new car. There are so many of these for sale on craigslist for under $2,500 it's ridiculous. Absolute blast to drive around town. A bit noisy on the freeway. I installed a direct-fit Walker Quiet Flow muffler to improve exhaust flow. The Walker muffler sounds real close to the original, but without all that back pressure from the OEM muffler. I want to upgrade the suspension to make it a softer ride. And I would like to upgrade the front brakes/rotors because the rims get hot from the rotors even on short trips. Any recommendations for a good soft front suspension and brake/rotor kit?

This car has some sentimental value to me. I remember my mom had one for a while and I remember what it was like being in it. It was different but it was nice, I can almost remember the smell of the AC. She passed away in 2004 and I'll always think of her when I see this car, it was her favorite.

Overall great video, I appreciate you making it (I’m an owner & huge fan). However I must point out a few things: They were not based on a Neon as you stated, they shared a few parts with the Neon but the entire under structure is unique to the PT. Also your friend is mistaken, they don’t handle poorly at all, in fact they handle extremely well, I autocrossed mine to prove that point & placed 4th fastest car of the day, I was only a few seconds behind the RX-8 & Honda S2000 that won the event (all stock, non turbo, stock tires). The interiors despite what you & everyone else says actually hold up extremely well, mine has over 150k miles & everything inside works & appears as new still, the only place you can find any wear is the steering wheel & brake pedal. I would say the worst job on the PT is the power steer pump, although not terrible it’s worst then it needed to be. I don’t find the timing belts that bad, everything has easy access if you do the steps correctly & in order. I live in the rust belt & they hold up better then average, there are still tons driving around here in Alberta (they are excellent in the snow too).

nice to read a bit of common sense for a change. I have 35 years in the motor trade and was surprised how well these were put together. Unfair to compare them with cars in a different class.

Just to list a few of my past cars before I comment on the PT: RX-7, Stealth, 3000GT, Prelude V-Tec, Avalanche, 350Z, 370Z, and currently drive a Lincoln MKT Twin Turbo. I had a PT GT and the wife and I loved it. Even with the turbo it wasn't all that fast but it was a great cruiser. If you get the driver seat position right it is a very comfortable long ride cruiser. We also loved the utility of it. We would remove the rear seats to haul the dogs around (2 huskies) and also remove them at the drive-in and set them facing the movie screen with the hatch open to hear the movie. The 2 door convertible GT looked the best! Its better than a Cavalier, Escort, Lesabre, Fiesta, Cobalt, etc.

I mean just wait until you get into the convertible version.

Lol I had one. Srt-4 motor and a 5 speed Getrag 88. Had it for less than 8 months. When it worked, it was fun. When it didn't, I wanted to drive it off a cliff. It's probably, actually excuse me I mean definitely in a junkyard now.
