10 Best Albums 1980

The sound improves at 2:12 and for some reason I keep referring to the Psychedelic Furs as Echo and the Bunnymen.

He was a hoot on stage and a good guitarist too", and a guy responded right away to my post, saying "yeah, I kinda remember that guy".....it was Billy Zoom himself! Haha. Seemed to be a nice guy.

Again a great list from you, Ritchie👌. Pretty similar to my taste. I might have added Motörhead, ‘Ace of Spades’ Cure, 17 seconds and Iron Maiden debut. It’s amazing how much brilliant music came from England at these times in general! I also dig a lot the Furs. The US cover of their debut is quite different in comparison to their German/UK version (I live in Germany). I think a lot of the Back in Black material was already written and arranged with Bon Scott. imagine how this would sound with Bon.

I like Tattooed Love Boys a lot too. Along with the rest of the album. I love Prince's falsetto singing, like on "Kiss" for instance. That is a cool Dead Kennedys album cover - don't think I've seen that color before. I have many of these tho I don't talk about punk much. But I have the Furs, X, Joy Division, and Pretenders. You're probably right about that Prince album being one of this better efforts. I was never a fan either. I didn't like the way he always included the synthetic drum sound in his mix (if indeed that's what it is). Surprised he was booed on stage. Crocodiles by Echo & the Bunnymen was a good debut. Seventeen Second by the Cure. Get Happy by Costello. U2's Boy was a good debut. Colossal Youth by Young Marble Giants is great if you find it somewhere. Good year for music.

Yeah, Prince's vocals can annoy. We pretty much agree on 1980 though you know the albums much better than me and I don't know the Cramps and don't like Dead Kennedys. I would add "Making Movies" by Dire Straits in the top 10 and Get Happy! by Costello would be my favorite album of the year. And put the Pretenders album higher than you. I like "Stop your sobbing" and anyway is much better than Kink's original but don't like Brass in Pocket. The best songs are Kid (great guitar, singing; beautiful song) and Mystery Achievement. Nice maneuver to look like Billy Zoom.
