    Gosh, AIP would be so much easier if I could have coconut in any capacity. I usually just stare into the fridge or the cupboards for an hour, on and off, not wanting to eat anything because everything makes me sick, not wanting to cook because I'm too fatigued, and then just give up and don't eat until later when I just finally go eat a can of sardines or something out of desperation. Been trying hard to get into meal prep but it's at the point where I'm just scared to eat everything. It'll get better eventually. Just gotta get there. :) Glad there are videos out there about some meal prep, though. :)

    I'm sorry about the coconut thing, it definitely makes it harder. I am working on redoing the recipe gallery on my website to be able to find coconut-free recipes (or recipes that can easily be modified to be coconut-free) really easy to do, but it's taking some time to go back and recategorize everything. Hang in there though - have you tried things like Paleo on the Go (potg.co/2uBBZXU)? It's pricey but worth it for being able to have some meals and snacks ready for when you need them and they feel like an indulgence. That's what I'd have any time my family got take-out, etc. They don't have a ton of coconut-free stuff but the Chicken Pot Pie is (and that's my favorite thing they sell!)

    It’s nice to hear someone else struggles with this. Breakfast used to be my favourite meal of the day & now it’s quickly turned to the hardest. A hack ive found to work since starting AIP though is having a piece of fruit right when I wake up. This helps give me the energy and feeling of fullness I need so I can get to the next step.

    Something most people don't realize, is the AIP diet should be combined with the blood type diet for maximum benefits. Coconut is not for everyone which is why you'll read a lot of comments on blogs where people say they can't do coconut. Coconut milk actually makes me feel super spacey. Btw, there is a banana flour and you can substitute it in most recipes that call for coconut flour. If your type O blood like me, that is more healing for you. Coconut and avocado are poison for type O blood types. Whereas bananas and carob are actually medicine. So for breakfast I do a frozen banana milkshake smoothie with carob powder which tastes like a chocolate milkshake! 😁 I only tolerate Oatly oat milk perfectly. Literally any other kind of milk causes inflammation and makes my thyroid puff up. Sooo yummy! I add one scoop of organic beef bone broth powder for protein. I also add half a teaspoon of turmeric and a pinch of pepper for an extra anti-inflammatory kick. I actually look forward to breakfast now. Finally! Plus I feel amazing for about 4 to 5 hours before I need to eat again. Then it's back to veggies and meats and salads and the occasional cassava flour taco or brownies or carob chip cookies.

    When my mom eats something she doesn't like she calls it "punishment food". Porridge is punishment food for me 😂 When I first started AIP, I tried a few porridge recipes. Even though I didn't like them there would be so much left over (plus, I didn't know what else to eat) that I would make myself eat it. I was so sad 🙍🏽‍♀️🤣 My biggest hurdle was getting used to eating meat for breakfast. Now I'm at a place where I love what I eat and I get excited for certain meals. I have yet to figure out what to make on nights I work late and just want something quick to whip up that's good.

    you know, I'm not absolutely sure of any at the moment. I know when I did it last time Brat Hans had one that actually was, but not sure if they still do. Other than that I just made my own - the Autoimmune Paleo cookbook by Mickey Trescott has quite a few recipes for sausage in it that are good, freeze really well (like seriously, I have some in my freezer from over a year ago that I still eat), and aren't hard to make (amzn.to/2JtTVc3 ) I just made a huge batch of these and took them out as needed..

  • @MicheleSpring

    @MicheleSpring

    4 жыл бұрын

    Ahh, stopping the coffee can be hard, but I recommend at first you slowly wean yourself off. If you drink 2 cups a day, cut down to 1.5, then 1, then 3/4 of a cup, then 1/2, and so on and so forth. You can take a few days at each one too if you need to. This helps avoid and caffeine addiction issues, like migraine headaches or severe tiredness from not having the caffeine. You can replace the rest of your warm, comforting beverage (if that's why you drink it, for the ritual as well as the caffeine) with something like tea, a warm spiced dairy-free milk drink (like my chai recipe: thrivingonpaleo.com/aip-chai-latte-recipe/ ) or something like chicken, beef, or veggie broth. Good luck! Getting off the coffee is the hardest part - believe it or not, once you're off it's really not that bad.

    I know, it's confusing right? They come from the same tree, but the nutmeg comes from the seed, which isn't allowed on AIP and the mace comes from the webby-skin AROUND the seed and doesn't have the same properties as the seed in the terms of autoimmune disease and causing leaky gut and/or inflammation. It's kind of like how we can have the leaves of certain plants but not the seeds (like cilantro is ok but coriander seed isn't).

    I love somewhat sweet soup for Breakfast. Most often coconutmilk based pureed soup with squash, or sweetpotato or beets. If I have them, but no time, I panfrie ripeish plantains with coconut shreds so there is fat to buffer the sugar high. Another thing that needs more time is a somewhat sweet salad with mild greens, fruit, coconut, maybe cucumber. But I'm totaly guilty of pancakes for Breakfast, made from plantains with gelatin. . . . The Breakfast parfaits are great, but I prefere something warm, so I take them with me to work as a second Breakfast a few hous later

  • @MicheleSpring

    @MicheleSpring

    3 жыл бұрын

    It's mainly because eggs contain compounds that many people react to negatively when they have things like leaky gut, inflammation, and active autoimmune issues. Once people get those under control most can reintroduce eggs with no issues, and they can be a very nutritious part of a diet. But if you are experiencing any autoimmune symptoms, there is a chance they could be hindering your health rather than promoting them.

  • @MicheleSpring

    @MicheleSpring

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ninavaldi2032 Those are kind of highly individual - some people can reintroduce each of those with no issues and some really can't tolerate them. Sometimes people do well with only having them on an occasional basis as well - like having them every morning would cause issues but once a week is ok. It also depends on how well your metabolic system is working too - both rice and oats are high in fast burning carbs so sometimes it can spike blood sugars and cause people to feel symptoms as well. So I wouldn't say they are "bad" foods, just use caution around them. If you're doing AIP they are out during the elimination phase and reintroduced later on - I always recommend giving them a longer reintroduction than the usual 72 hours, typically more like at least a week if not 2 to really flush out if they cause issues for you.

    Some interesting options; however, there is some incomplete or misleading information. Pancakes are not allowed on an AIP diet. If you are referring to AIP friendly pancakes, this should be mentioned. Also, I have been unable to find any sausage, bacon, etc. that is totally AIP compliant. They contain ingredients like cane sugar, to mention one, Additionally, AIP advises not to use a microwave as it irradiates your food, therefore killing the nutrients.

  • @MicheleSpring

    I'm not sure what version of AIP you're referring to - I think you may be getting confused with Whole30? Whole30 doesn't allow pancakes or sugars, but AIP is not a sugar-free nor "treat"-free diet. And Dr. Sarah Ballantyne has a great article on microwaving - based on research, not fear: www.thepaleomom.com/are-microwaves-safe-to-use/
