    A little tip! If you ever need a quickly cooked sweet potato, poke a few holes in it, wrap it in a paper towel and pop it in the microwave. The time depends on the size of the sweet potato and the microwave.

  • @MicheleSpring

    Great tip, thanks! There are definitely a ton of ways to cook sweet potatoes - I actually usually use the Instant Pot, but I felt this was the least hands-on method where you didn't need to babysit them at all, which makes it easier when you have a ton of things going on. But by all means - if you want to do the microwave then go for it!

  • @MicheleSpring

    Yes, I take Armour Thyroid (and previously had taken Levothyroxine) because I cannot produce enough of the thyroid hormones on my own. A lot of my thyroid tissue was destroyed during the years that my doctor had just told me that medication was the ONLY thing I could do unfortunately. However, I've been on a stable dose for 8 years now, vs ever-changing doses that I had been on prior to changing my diet, so I'm completely fine with having to take that every day just to cover what I cannot make on my own.

    Hi, I need help. I’ve been on AIP for 2.5 months. I feel better, but understand this diet is not long term. The issue is I need to lose weight, and AIP hasn’t worked. I’m still in the overweight/obese category. I have Hashimotos and on top of this diet, I worked out 5x a week with weights and light cardio. I’m at the end of my rope with this and don’t know what to do anymore. I want to be healthy and look like I work out 5x a week and eat healthy. Crying as I write this, any advice would help. Thank you

  • @MicheleSpring

    @MicheleSpring

    I'm so sorry you're going through this. So without knowing your whole story it's hard to pinpoint why it might be happening (and this isn't the forum for it either), but usually when you still can't lose weight it's because there's still some inflammation in your body - which 2.5 months is definitely enough time for it to start to go away but maybe not entirely. There could be an underlying root cause, like some sort of gut infection, that's exacerbating the inflammation. Or your blood sugar isn't stable - have you been eating a lot of AIP treats or cassava flour/tapioca flour baked goods? (Check out my blood sugar series if you haven't as I 100% gain weight if I don't pay attention to mine: kzread.info/head/PLTbaMl1Sv6XoXcAHqEeZLfeQI3Qc5fljN ) And then finally, how do you feel each day as you work out? Do you feel tired or not recovered? A bit sore is fine, but if you feel "meh" or like it's a struggle to do the workouts, back off a bit and maybe try only 3x a week. I know when I first started on my autoimmune recovery I couldn't do more than a 30-min walk each day with a 1-minute plank. And that was literally it (and this was coming from doing Ironman Triathlons, so I was no stranger to exercise). I've been able to work up to 1 hour walks each day with doing some sort of pilates, barre, yoga, or strength training 5x a week and a 20-30 min Peloton bike ride or outdoor jog 1-2x a week, but even now if I don't get enough sleep the night before or am super stressed I skip the extra workouts (but always do the walk since it's with. my dogs). This is a good article to read: www.thepaleomom.com/exercising-much-hurts-gut/ It's just kind of eye opening at first to understand that "too much" exercise when you have an autoimmune disease can be SOOO much less than what you're used to or a "normal, healthy" person would do. And it's highly individual as well - for some people too much could be walking for 5 minutes. For others it could be doing a 6 mile run every day. I just bring it up as stress on the body - whether it comes from workouts, lack of sleep, actual chronic stress, or the "stress" caused by blood sugar swings or inflammation will cause you to hold on to weight. Hope this helps. Hang in there - it can be frustrating as heck and I get it - but when you DO figure it out you'll have the key to your weight loss on a long term basis, rather than some short term deal that you'll gain right back. So then if you ever were to gain it back, you'll know exactly what to do to lose it again.

    Hi Michelle. Thank you for a fantastic channel. I have started AIP about 13 days ago. I have been doing really great on it and i have loved some of your recipes. I have one concern that is really troubling me. I have loads of veggies, meats, fruits, some of the bread / taco recipes you have posted and have water only to drink. I have found that i wake up with extreme shakes, or it will happen in the course of the day. I have not found what it is that is causing this. My doctor has said it could be ketosis. I have gone to the extreme of having sugar to see if it works. Then i have had bread to see if the shakes stop. I did find that with bread the shakes stopped. But now my body is aching and i have a splitting headache. In your experience could you possibly enlighten me on what this may be. We have started bringing in Cassava, Tapioca and coconut flour. I am allergic to coconut, i have shortened it down to the flour being the allergen. I can use the milk, cream and oil. If i get the shakes i feel like i want to loose my mind. Please be so kind as to help with you opinion on this. Lots of love Marlize. (Shantelles wife)

    Oh wow. I honestly have no idea - do you feel anything while having the shakes, like dizziness or confusion? My only thinking is that it could be a low blood sugar. But if eating sugar doesn't help that, then that wouldn't be it. Is it still happening now, since I see you left this 5 days ago? (sorry, have had covid and was NOT in a state to answer any comments, haha)

    I have problems with being deficient in trace minerals and salt. You can get a small bottle of trace minerals and add it to your water. (Read the directions for how many drops) I notice a difference right away. You could try it a few times and see if it makes you feel better. Another thing your body may be detoxing and it will get better over time. When I do a detox I use a supplement called HerX. It helps with the Herxheimer reaction from detoxing.

    @@MicheleSpring Hi Michelle. I have decided to stop the AIP as i had no relief. I ate Bread, Sugar and most of the things i cut out to try see what it may be and could not function anymore. I was sleeping everyday the whole day except when i had to eat or use the loo. I spoke to my Doc and she said i need to see a specialist in order to find out what the cause of the symptoms were. Since eating normal again i have not had shakes or anything. I do however know coffee is a massive trigger so i am now having chicory only. Lots of love to you, trust you and the family are now well.
