1 Year of Drawing EVERY Day! (*mostly* Lessons Learned)
I drew 365 characters in one year! The goal was to follow a monthly art challenge prompt list, like Inktober, every day for the entire year. There were a few twists, turns, and a lot of lessons learned.
I am typically a pixel artist, but many of the skills I use were built up during this year-long art challenge.
I don't think I even mentioned it in the video, but all the drawings were done in Procreate.
The prompt lists I followed were:
-Creatuanary
-Faebruary
-March of Robots
-April Bunnies
-Mermay
-Kaijune
-Julycanthropy
-Drawgust
-Sketchtember
-Drawlloween
-Huevember
-Drawcember

epic video am i right yall
Ok. But now that I’ve seen the video, that inverted dragon is awesome! This whole video makes me think back to when I was trying to draw daily. Or at least 5/7 days of the week. And MY GOSH! That is stressful. It’s all-consuming. And eventually drained me. Which is a shame. Because at the beginning, it was taking me 4+ hours to draw anything that felt even OK with. Slowly it was getting quicker, but I just got discouraged and quit. DO NOT GO THE WAY I WENT! It’s a major regret of mine and I often think of how much better I’d be at drawing now if I never quit. If I just picked up a pencil every now and then. Great video. Thanks for the amazing content.

You can always pick that pencil up again! No reason you can't set reasonable goals that work with your lifestyle. Maybe even just see if you can do two images a week. That would still be 104 drawings by the end of a year, and that's some serious progress! Whatever you do, just make sure it's something you enjoy (even in the moments of struggle)!
Wow, taking on even one of those monthly challenges can be tough, so congrats making it through the full 365! Were you still making pixel art in that time as well, or you've pivoted back to it after clearing the challenge?

Thank you! This was during a nearly decade-long stretch without pixel art. It's funny, I remember telling my now-wife sometimes that drawing digitally this way made me feel like I was doing pixel art again. Wish I'd gotten the hint and started it up right then, but it was another full year after this before I started pixelling again.

@@RobinsonPixels Funny how that happens! But I guess it's all necessary to get to where you are now. Maybe time for another go around of the 365, but this time with pixels 😅

@@BJGpixel oh jeez if I ever try that it will be on the TINIEST canvas 🤣
I guess all comes down to who you are and how can you cope with the preassure of having a task everyday. If you create art for a living without the freedom of deciding what to draw, you just do it because it's your job. And the same happens if you want to grow an audience, you draw for your audience. Everybody has to pay the bills so all that it's ok if you can cope with it and you are ok. But as you very well said, you have to save some time to draw what you really wanna draw a make you happy. An equally or more important even, you have to save time for your life, your family, friends and hobbies. 😊
Great video, my friend! It's neat to think back to those times when you were doing those challenges, and even cooler to see how it evolved into your pixel practice. Also, you're real good at KZread talkings. Very neat to see you kicking butt with each video. 👾

I am not an artist, but I appreciate a good Jazz JackRabbit fan-art and a MegaMan X Command Mission t-shirt. I also appreciate good encouragement and walkthroughs of what ot's like to tackle challenges I'm unlikely to tackle myself, so thanks for that! I will say that it's cool you made so many different drawings, I for one like to see artists not just do one subject time and again.

Thank you! Always good to bump into a fan of both Jazz AND Command Mission haha
I've tried Inktober a few times. I don't think I'm cut out for dailies of drawing anything. I do love drawing though.

Don't even worry about it. I think challenges like this are super fun, but some of my favorite pieces took me over a week to complete. The important part is that you love what you do (even if in the moment sometimes it can drive you crazy)

I've seen some folks take things like Inktober prompts and instead of doing one per day, give each prompt a week. Takes you out of October and instead makes it like a 2/3rds year challenge, but the time pressure is less severe, while still having some deadline to help with "the enemy of good is perfect" and "the enemy of done is perfect" style issues. Or doing 2 prompts per week at 3 days per prompt, etc. If it's for personal practice reasons, not following a strict timecrunch style prompt like inktober or nanowrimo but still having a similar structure can be useful.

@@Matoyak - That's ALMOST what I did. I'm slow enough to have split it into 3 drawings of 10 prompts each. And then I was STILL late!!
Now im motivated to do something like this

Worst case scenario is that you start something like this and don't finish, which would still be progress! 😊 Just maybe set a more reasonable goal than I did.
Hello! Thanks for the content. :) You were talking alot about how you used to do alot of MegaMan/Jazz Jackrabbit sidescrolling pixelart. That is basically me 🤣🤣

You should maybe start your own daily/weekly/monthly challenges for your followers. maybe have a discord with the posts in. :)

Maybe someday! Right now I have to figure out how to balance the channel with actually making art. At the moment my video content efforts are outweighing my actual art time so much I don't even think I could keep up with my own challenges 🤣
