#1 Long vs Short Czech Vowels 🇨🇿 Can you REALLY 😠 hear the difference in pronunciation?

In this lesson I will teach you the Czech Vowels Pronunciation. How to pronounce long & short vowels in the Czech language, what they are, how to use them and why we even have them. We will also look at diphthongs (ou, au, eu) and how these are different to the same diphthongs in the English language.

Děkuju Kateřina, After English, Czech and other slavic languages are my favorite languages in Europe because slavic languages are mostly free word order languages. They have many grammatical ending that makes the language extremely flexible and it was very useful to make rhymes in song and meter in poem. After learning Czech, Polish and Russian are my next languages to learn. By the way, I even tried to learn Old Church Slavonic language, but it grammar are very old and very complex and sounding system are very hard. In my opinion I think that OCS may be more harder than modern slavic languages. It letters are completely different from modern cyrillic alphabets. Czech can be difficult for me because I am a beginner but I will learn till I fluent.

Hello Kateřina! 🙂 I appreciate your work here. Please, continue like this. I want to ask, is there any good test online where we can find out which level of Czech language we already know? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Awww děkuju moc, Marina! Actually, I can't recommend a really good and reliable test right now that would be fully online. There are many online but to find out the A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 level...? There only are printed materials that you can purchase and try the tests, only there are no speaking exercises there so it's never really complete. The only saurse that I think is valid and you can rely on it is from the company, that actually makes the A1, A2 tests for Permanent residence in The Czech Republick and there you can test yourself online a bit: cestina-pro-cizince.cz/trvaly-pobyt/a1/en/priprava-na-zkousku/modelovy-test/ Or this is their PDF version of tests for example for free and you can download it: cestina-pro-cizince.cz/trvaly-pobyt/a1/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/09/brozura2020_online_web.pdf

So sweet. :) I would say it depends on many aspects.. it is not an easy one, but if you speak another foreign language already or if you are a Slavic speaker, it can be quite normal... every language needs a lot of practice and time. :)

I just started learning Czech a few months ago on doulingo and to help I just started learning from watching KZread videos. Starting with your 1st video, I downloaded your worksheet, but there was more words in this video than on the worksheet. I was wondering if I could get the original worksheet or is it supposed to have less words in the worksheet?

Great question! I honestly think that in a Czech course that you have with a teacher there is New Czech Step by Step that is the top of what there is for Czech or Čeština Express... those are the best if the teacher combines it with more materials, like Basic Czech and many more. For self studying, it is better to get some textbook with a full key, like Communicative Czech, Contemporary Czech or Czech, en Essential grammar, Colloquial Czech... I am not really fond of only one of them in particular, as they all have their pros and cons, but they are useful and with the right persistency, you will get there with any of these.

Pozdrav iz Srbije! You are great! I decided to learn a language that is similar to Serbian and among all Czech sounds the cutest! And because a language is the best learned when you use it, what do you recommend? I think I should start with a story in Czeck. Is there any online source of short stories in Czech that I could use. I think having text online I can use google translate to spell it and translate it if needed. I am doing this just for fun and it is fun already. Please, I am waiting for your recommendation. Sve najbolje želim!

I Dejan! Good choice! Serbian will for sure help you a lot. For the most productive learning I recommend a combination of things that will be the most convenient for you: in person or online lessons if online lessons you can combine with a conversation lessons from time to time with some Czech teacher listen and translate songs (suggestions of two songs pretty good for beginners: My máme rádi víno, Krásný je vzduch) books for beginners: Jiřina Bartošová: Perný den A1 level Karel Čapek: O pejskovi a kočičce A1 level Lída Holá: Pražské legendy A2 level Martina Trchová: Brněnské legendy A2 level KZread channel: Because Czech is Cool (practical listening), Czech with Tereza Enjoy, learn... (this one I would suggest for a lot of practice of random topics)
