From what i understand AND have experienced, the discovery of the TSH and ability to measure it, has caused doctors to stop diagnosing by symptoms. I had ALL of the symptoms of hypo and it was bad. My eyebrows shrank to 1/2 their length, my colon was "absolutely packed with faeces" according to an xray my dr did, I was COLD my heart rate was sluggish. And as you said, he did a tsh and said it was in the normal range...I think at the time it was around 3. Fortunately I had done my research and asked for a thyroid antibody test and it was "low positive" and he still insisted my tsh was normal. I said no, please prescribe synthroid because I am NOT normal. I was shortly up to 88 mcg and finally felt normal again. That was easily 7 years ago, in the last couple of years I've been adding a drop of iodine to my daily selenium supplement. Hopefully that's not bad.

Iodine supplementation requires TSH to rise to make sodium symporter needed to move iodine into cell..... so TSH not good marker. Also cortisol is naturally higher in AM and it could interfere with T4 to T3 conversion... I finally figured this out after 2 years! Now I take T3 only in AM, then take NP THYROID (T4 +T3) in afternoon.... finally, it seems to work. Plus I put lugol's in my water.... just enough

I'm a male who was diagnosed with Graves disease in my mid-30s. No matter the dosage of methimazole my T3 and T4 hormones were off the charts and wouldn't come down. I developed severe psoriasis and I felt like I was having a heart attack every time I did anything that required exertion. Then my endocrinologist changed my diet and asked me to avoid carbs and replace the calories with organic meat and veggies. I did as she asked and within a few weeks I felt like a different person. Within a few months I was completely off medications.

Synthroid almost killed me. I was prescribed it for hypothyroidism and my thyroid started working again. I started having trouble with memory, my neurological system (had tremors and couldn’t control my bowel movements), and developed tachycardia. They then gave me something to “cool” my thyroid and I still felt horrible. So, I prayed about it and God told me to stop taking everything and to look up treating hyperthyroidism. I found a site (back in line 2005, before the internet became what it is today) and found a blog that mentioned a regiment with vitamins and minerals. It was better than anything else, but I still have issues with tachycardia. Western medicine is lazy medicine.

I complained to my doctor (internist) about feeling tired all the time and asked him to check my thyroid and all he did was get the lab to check my TSH, which was normal. Later, I decided to go to a wellness clinic, where they did a full thyroid panel and discovered that my reverse T3 was high. Ask your doctor to do a full thyroid panel.

You need the specialist, endocrine doctor. Family doctors know little to nothing about it, but try to keep you to get the co pay, they many times avoid sending you to specialists which can be dangerous or worse at times, then your on,y recourse when getting worse ends up in a hospital. And get second opinions, different endocrine doctors treat differently, and much depends how you feel, if you feel ok they do nothing, rightfully so. But loosing or gaining weight, mood and sleep changes, and the like, have to be addressed. Not waited on.

Stress, anxiety, fear, anger stimulating fight or flight. These all cause inflammation which triggers autoimmune responses. What are bombarded with on a never ending basis? It's also the chemicals they spray in the air which rains down into the soil plus we breathe in. It's also the flouridated, chlorinated water. It's also the tainted livestock poisoned with antibiotics, steroids, corn and soy. It's also the genetically modified crops treated with chemicals. The pasteurization process which turns dairy into poison. The soaps, laundry detergents, body washes, shampoos, conditioners, make up, antiperspirants, and (syn)thetic clothing we wear which leeches into our pours. The sunscreen that blocks our ability to utilize the sun's rays, plus the cloud seeding that clouds up the sky. The demonization of millennia old natural herbs and remedies and promoting petroleum based pharmaceuticals. The opposite of healthy food pyramid which promotes strachy wheat, breads, gluten, corn, soy, lectins, legumes while demonizing essential saturated animal and plant fats, pushes seed oils and (syn)thetic oils, margarine, not to mention the 24/7 exposure to EMF's from technology thats been integrated into our lives as necessity. EVERYTHING about our lives has been carefully designed to alter our psychology, make us sick, fat, dumb, and dependent on the system, the medical and pharmaceutical industrial complexes. It's no coincidence in the 21st century we were supposed to have spiritual enlightenment, world peace, and flying cars and instead all we got was war and cancer

My GP tells me that they have to follow the NHS guidelines, so diet advice. These kind of videos and some books have helped me to get my levothyroxin prescription down from 175mcg to 100mcg in 2019. Now again trying to get it down gradually until remission, hopefully within 12 months. My tsh readings have been going down in the last 9 months. In UK, tsh has to be less than 0.21. Last time it was 0.91, before that 2.25 and higher before than. So it is very slow process even with a right diet and the right supplements. I had asked my GP doctor if it was possible to heal my (hypo) thyroid via nutrition and supplementation. There was a slight hesitation, then he replied, “Absolutely not.” I found a wonderful GP shortly after that. I've been off thyroid meds for 1.5 yrs now, and I've lost 103lbs all through slowly reconstructing my nutritional intake with a goal to become more healthy. The weight loss was a side effect of my continual research of nutrition/ supplementation, and applying what I had learned to myself. No more inflammation in my body! This did not happen overnight, it was a slow but worthy process that took time and a sincere desire to become healthy again.

Your measured, articulate speech and relaxed speed in delivering this new, complex information really hits the ball out of the park. Your metaphorical explanations are hugely helpful. Have put off my annual "checkup" for several years because of my prejudice that I'd just get a "standardized" approach to what I suspect is a thyroid difficulty. Your post gives me the education I need to speak intelligently about this to my doctor. Many thanks, Doctor.

If your doctor is an MD (medical doctor), they are required to prescribe pharma (pills). They CANNOT tell you to take some moringa, maca root or algae to help your root cause. They don’t even try to FIND the root cause - they only treat the symptoms. You need to find a naturopathic doctor, but there aren’t very many AND they are NOT covered by insurance. I finally found one and I live in the 7th biggest city in the United States. I am on a 6 month program that costs $4,700. The list of symptoms I have were not treated AT ALL! He said we need to treat the ROOT cause and ALL those symptoms would disappear. What a refreshing statement! The price will anger and repel most people, but I’ve seen what happens when an autoimmune disease goes untreated. I don’t want to be that person!

Thank you for an important and great video! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2002. I had NO symptoms. I was misdiagnosed in my opinion. It was my diet, if anything. Since early 2019, I have been doing healthy keto and intermittent fasting. I eat OMAD. I am slowly getting off Synthroid. No doctor because they all say this drug you have to take forever. I am down to one pill a day. I have been slowly coming off Synthroid since January. I will take my last one in two weeks. My hair has started to get thicker and I feel better. Maybe it's because I want off this drug that bad. I've done my research. I was misdiagnosed in 2002 AND I never should have been put on Synthroid. Anyway, I'm NOT suggesting that anyone do this but when I set my mind to something, I'm going to do it. I also include Brazil Nuts (Selenium), Sea Kelp, Trace Minerals, Magnesium, LTyrosine, and some others.

@@sheshlane I found a doctor in Asheville, NC to diagnose me. But I had done tons of research and went in armed with books I had read. I learned that hypothyroidism is one of the most under treated diseases today. It was a 20 year journey of profound frustration, fatigue, allergies, infertility, and just plain bad health, but I never gave up. I am now on compounded natural thyroid meds…and that was also an uphill battle to get that med prescribed rather than the Synthroid that only helped for awhile, until it didn’t any longer. I was 28 when I got first symptoms of thyroid issues, 32 when I finally got diagnosed and got meds. After 2 years from that I moved to southern town about 1.5 hours from here due to work for half a year. During that time I lost 20 kg and felt my life was back on track. After I moved back, only 3 months and I was my normal size again. I didn't emphasize that any way. Because of that I have thought about water connection to thyroid but no-one believes me. I know this is an environmental disease, nothing else will explain it. I have tried all kinds of diets, exercises, stress relief programs. Nothing helps. I will no start buying my water as well, let's see if that helps. Thank you for really great video!

Hi! There is definitely a water connection bc if there is a high level of fluoride in the water, which is a hormone disruptor that negatively impacts the thyroid. Fluoride interferes with your bodies ability to properly absorb iodine which is critical for optimal thyroid health and performance. For this reason it is best to drink purified water, install a reverse osmosis filter if using tap water and use glass bottles due to the plastic toxins interfering with thyroid function as well. You may also want to increase your iodine intake to offset the effects of fluoride and flush out excess. Eat iodine rich seafood, like cod and shrimp a few times a week, a few servings of seaweed, eggs and potatoes also contain iodine. Also use a fluoride free toothpaste.

Just came across this video and I'm floored. My thyroid dx started in my teens & I've spent 40 years looking for answers. Pre-pandemic my then Dr - after several lab tests - simply said "well it certainly seems there's something autoimmune going on". That was it. My thyroid peroxidase result was 220 ... and this video shows max 34. My result was TWO HUNDRED TWENTY!! I'm absolutely floored that my Dr blew this off. They closed their doors during the pandemic & I basically gave up but the last several months I've had increased problems, most alarming has been some days my arms and legs become so weak the mere act of a shower and getting dressed takes hours. I have an appt with an endocrinologist but that's months away. Praying I'll finally get my answers and so glad to have this video to continue educating myself on this horrible disease. Thank you Dr. Ekberg, truly glad to be a new sub to your channel!!❤

Most doctors don't tell you that thyroid issues can be a result of serious trauma. I had a lot of childhood trauma and then was diagnosed with hypothyroid in my 20's when I began doing the shadow work, opening the flood gates. Also, the FDA used to add iodine to food that we consume normally but realized the health benefit (like killing cancer cells) so they stopped including it. I was told by a DO to begin taking iodine drops every day to replenish the thyroid cells.

A couple of points the Medical profession doesn't know about. Goiters rarely occur here in the states, due to halogen poisoning. The Iodine receptor, when filled with other halogens, cause miscommunication (Usually comes across as some sort of body pain). However, it also prevents goiters from being formed. Fibromyalgia is in fact, Bromine poisoning, usually due to drinking acidic (bromine is that tart flavor) drinks like Mountain Dew for decades. As an aside, "almost all" apparent negative reactions to Iodine are in fact caused by a detox reaction. If it's not detox it means you are also deficient in in the other required co-factors needed for regulation of the thyroid. To Your Great Health!

Dr Ekberg, you've rocked this topic here! TY so much. 🥰 When I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's at 51, my new PCP ran labs which thankfully included the antithyroid peroxidase. Mine was 1,505 , she said it should have been 9 which solidified in her mind that I've had this a long time. (Boy, my health would've been so much better if a doctor would've caught this during my early 20's when I was having babies.) I began taking specific essential oils and it dropped to about 500 in 2 months, and then down to 53 a couple months later. She was so thrilled with my results and said keep doing what I'm doing. Consistency is key as well as a strict AIP diet. That said, I'd love to connect with you & your team to have oversight and follow through since my PCP is a hospitalist now and my current doctor said she's not up to speed on these labs & issues. (I see her Tuesday.)
