$1,000 Pizza Slice: Worth It? || Really Dough?

On the season finale of “Really Dough?” Mark leaves Brooklyn! It’s a miracle! Mark and Scott hop into Scott’s pizza-mobile and head out on the road to Hoboken, New Jersey, to check out an extremely expensive pizza made specially for them at Tony Boloney’s. Will Mark think it’s a pizza?
Pizza is one of the most customizable foods in history. Tomato sauce, white sauce, artichoke cream sauce, broccoli, M&M’s, pineapple, edible 24K gold -- a pizza can be anything your heart desires. But should it? Renowned pizza nerd Scott Wiener is challenging the idea that pizza can be anything. He’s traveling all over America, spotlighting these Frankenstein pizzas and trying to make a case for whether these new customizations can, in fact, still be considered a pizza. In the end, Wiener takes these pizzas to Lucali to pass final judgment from the purist of all pizza purists, Mark Iacono, where he will either declare each slice “PIZZA!” or ask with complete disgust, “Really Dough?”

I have a lot of respect for the way the guy made the pizza expensive. Instead of just throwing gold on a pizza he simply chose the best ingredients for his vision.

@@gouthambabu9160 Only reason he had to use that much saffron is because the flavor only comes out if you soak it in some liquid. Sprinkling it on top like that is insanely wasteful and won't do much.

ba1e5 You counter yourself with that argument, good sir. As you said, saffron is best used to add flavour to liquids, just not that great with solid foods. Putting it in a pizza with so many other flavours around was not only wasteful, but he also had to use a lot more of it to make it shine.

the safron will barely pop any flavor like that. it's supposed to be mixed with milk or water to get the actual falvor , my family runs a saffron business since 1993

Yep, not something people will really do, but great if done properly. I've use Wagyu ground beef before for some amazing burgers.

@@maxfelson9467 Wagyu for burger is kinda pointless. The point of having Wagyu is for the marbling, therefore higher fat to meat ratio. When you grind your meat, you can tweak the ratio as you like, by adding more or less fat into the mixture. Also in a burger, more fat ≠ better. Fat is needed to give flavour and make the burger moist, but if you have too much, you'll just get soft, oily patty in the end. Yes, Wagyu burger does have distinct flavour, but it's not much different with regular burger, especially when you top it with toppings and sauce in a burger
Damn what a good ending... I cried for a pizza series ;_; Season 3 please? :'( This whole series change my perspective about pizza. And even change my perspective about Monday. I used to hate Monday. But now, I can't wait for Monday, just to watch this series. Seriously, thank you for giving us the best series I've ever watched on KZread.

When Scott slapped Mike, I was like "do you WANT to start a fight in an Italian community? Cuz THAT'S how you start a fight in an Italian community".
This was a great finale indeed. Next season needs to focus on joints outside the five boroughs requiring a drive and call it *_"Mark and Scott in a Clown Car Talkin' Pizza"_* but of course they rarely talk pizza. It would bump up an already fantastic series to an 11.

Assuming the ingredients are all top notch, the cost of ingredients of each slice probably maxes out at $100. Definitely hard to fathom the $1,000 price tag. Also, that's chorizo, not jamon iberico.

Never buy saffron from a plastic container, glass container, etc. You're supposed to buy it from a dark tin so it can keep it's potency and quality.
I really loved the homage to the previous episodes and the guest pizzaiolos. Amazing job as always, our pizza overlords.

I hope this episode in general is meant to be an April Fools Joke... Because if not, firstly, that's Chorizo Iberico not Jamón Iberico, then the ingredients can't be that high priced cause a Torta del Casar at least here in Spain is about 15€ for 600g, Yes saffron is super expensive but who in the world would use so much saffron when even just a tiny bit of it gives such a good flavour . So yep, i guess this is probably a good old April Fools joke.

Thrillist Thanka for clearing that up. I didn’t know that was a thing to ground it up and make it into a sausage; I’d like to try it. I used to live in Madrid (and I hope to move back), and I loved Jamón Ibérico. That stuff can get really pricey. I wish it was more readily available in the US (specifically, California).
