I'm a contemporary, Canadian painter, inspired by the coastal mountains of British Columbia. My paintings are simultaneous explorations of what I see, where I’ve been and how I want to feel. Like me, they are multilayered, complex and full of surprises. I learn something new about myself with each new piece.
I use bright colours, organic shapes and wandering lines to interpret the world around me, allowing the paintings to develop intuitively and at their own pace. Join me in my studio explorations and as I chat with other artists about their art journeys and studio practices on the weekly Instagram Live show I co-host with fellow Canadian artist Barbara Reade.

Beautiful
Love this! I was in a rut using my gelli plate but your video got me inspired. I got some great results. Thank you!
Love this. Thank you.
You're very welcome. Thanks for leaving a comment :-)
Why wouldnt you show us what you will create of art work insted of all this stuff!?…
Hmmm. I have shared the small paper paintings all over the place... Instagram, Facebook and yes, even here on KZread. Lots of people have found 'this stuff' interesting LOL!
Bravo! You've exceeded my expectations.
👍
I love this….I am just starting in collage and feeling overwhelmed with larger sizes….so this is very inspiring!
Oh I'm so glad you found it helpful! The other thing I tell myself all the time; "Not every piece needs to be a masterpiece. Finish it up. Move on. Apply what you learned." xx
Fabulous video Tamara!!!
Thanks for watching Margaret! I do enjoy making these :-)
Gorgeous and so fun! You're getting good with that gelli plate!👍
Thanks! I'm going to be sad when this weekly focus is finished... although I do have a new venue to show them at later this summer. So perhaps more are in my future?
This is really inspiring! We just started using the round Gelli plate, and it was hard to stop! I like the idea of quickly creating your own marks with a simple tool. And the small papers were also different. Thanks!
Ooh, I didn't know a round gelli plate existed! I may have to invest in one LOL!
I enjoyed this video, Tamara! Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for watching Kerry! I enjoy stitching these little snippets together. It’s also a way of journaling my studio practice for me to look back on!
Glad i found this. Newbie looking for exactly this!
Happy to help! Let me know if you have any questions.
Everithing is very beautiful!
Thank you! And thanks for watching.
I keep a dollar store kitty litter pan nearby and toss stencils, brayers, stamps, etc into water with a splash of Murphys oil soap in it for easy clean up later.
I love Murphy's oil soap for my brushes; never thought of using it for brayers and stencils. Thanks for the idea!
Nice video. Right to the point without extra chatter and not talking over music. New subscriber.
Thanks Avanelle! I'm like you; I prefer to cut to the chase LOL! Looking forward to more conversations with you in the future!
Wow!!!
This makes me want to make art!
Yay! You should! It doesn't take fancy materials to get started!
hi, i've been searching in vain for artist reveiws on how they use AA and finally stumbled upon yours. I'm looking to integrate AA with my website but the main thing holding me back right now is the ecommerce. Since you manage both, does this not force you to do double entry and require you to update your AA inventory everytime a sale goes through your website? This is what I want to avoid. How do you manage?
Thanks for the question! There is a bit of double entry, BUT I have published my public AA page to my website as my main shop page. So every time I update AA it automatically updates on my website. My sales are not frequent, so it hasn't been a time problem thus far ;-)
Really enjoyed watching your process! Well done video btw! 👏🏻
Thanks so much! 😊 I enjoy making these little shorts. Another way to explore creativity right? (And thanks for subscribing xx)
This is SO AWESOME! I didn’t know you were on KZread and now I can satisfy my need to watch what other artists do. Thank you for sharing this fantastic video, I know how much work it is producing this and really appreciate your effort, it is very inspiring 😍Well done!
Thanks! I set it up a while ago as a place to store No Brush Required episodes off of Instagram. And am planning on creating new videos regularly. It's such fun!
Love love love
Thanks!
Thank you so much Tamara, I really really enjoyed watching you create these stunning prints. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too.
Thank YOU! I really appreciate your support. Working on my next video today :-)
Would you happen to know the name of the flower stencil you used at the beginning with the Payne’s Gray?
Sue, it is one of many mandela stencils that came in a package of 100 from Amazon. And none of them were labelled.... Sorry not to be more help!
@@tamaragrandart that’s what I figured…😁. I’ve seen those packages and always thought about it buying them. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I appreciate it.
totally worth the spend. I think I paid $35 for the pack? And lots of inspiring ideas with stencils I probably wouldn't have bought on their own!@@suetraviss8888
Great episode! Nice conversation about the benefits of purchasing art. 👍
So much fun Tamara!!❤❤
It really is! Have you tried making papers like this Laurie?
Love this, Tamara! I am just starting a botanical abstract collage and this technique will work really well for some of the background. Thanks for the inspiration.
You're very welcome Michelle. I'd love to see what you end up doing with it!
Hi, new subscriber here; discovered your channel only today and very much liked the 2 videos I watched as yet. Looking forward to seeing more of your work! Thanks for sharing and inspiring me.
Thanks so much for your kind comments Rosabel. Welcome!
I love what you added to this! Perfect!
Thanks! I'm excited to see the final piece!
So beautiful! It really illuminates off the canvas.
Thanks Luke! It reminds me of the way sunlight penetrates the water on a beautiful summer day!
Beautiful colors in this one
Thanks Lynn! My absolute favourites!
Great works!
Nice beginning, would love to see how you move on from this 😊
Thanks for the message (and the reminder that this piece is still sitting in a big pile of unfinished work... maybe 2024? LOL!)
These are great prints. I have seen a few artists demo the gelli plate, but nobody mentions how to clean it at the end of a print session. Is it difficult? What does cleaning the plate entail? Id like to understand before i buy one for myself. Thank you. Ill be looking forward to seeing more of your art.
Thanks for watching and getting in touch! I struggled with cleaning my gelli print as well. The advice I had was to clean it with warm water and a bit of soap. That never worked very well. After some searching, the best way I've found to clean it has two steps; (1) when you're all done pulling prints, put a thin layer of white paint on, press a piece of paper over and leave it to dry for a few minutes before pulling the paper up (this will pull up most of the underbits of colour), (2) apply a bit of hand sanitizer to the plate and gently wipe it up with a lint free paper towel (I use blue shop cloths). Takes a couple of passes, but always works. And remember to store the plate in the original packaging. Keeps it moist. Have fun!
Hi Tamara, I just found your channel. I love the work you did here. I am a fan of black and white. I worked with carving linoleum since back in the early 70's. I purchased my first gelli plate for a gift to myself, and for my adult daughter who loves to craft with me. I have dabbled in everything over the years but never tried this. I still have my old brayer and I'm sure your videos will help a lot! I am hoping to create papers for journaling, art cards and greeting cards. Happy New Year, and thanks for the inspiration! Cath from east coast Connecticut.
Hi Cath. Thanks so much for reaching out to chat! I love my gelli plate and it just so happens that my new year's project will include the creating of lots of new papers. I'll film some of it and share as I go. Happy New Year!
It’s so helpful to hear an artist describe their inspiration and how the final painting was achieved. Your commentary is very clear and easy to listen to. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks Sue for watching and sharing your lovely feedback. I really appreciate it!
Interesting👌‼️
Wow! Beautiful!
Thanks so much Diane xx
kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6iOx7uKgq3chMY.htmlThank you for your videos, I'm making them too.
Just looking at artwork archives today and came across your video. Was wondering why have a website and this program? Trying to figure out if I need both.
Thanks for watching! This is a really good question. Not everybody who uses ArtWork Archives has their own website too. I do for a couple of reasons. 1. I own my website. It's my domain and I have complete control over what I share there. If Artwork Archives ever changes their program, my profile there will have to follow their changes. If they cease to exist, all my hard work will too! 2. I want to be able to create other types of content to share. Videos, online courses, members only shops, monthly Studio Notes , an email sign up list, Instagram integrations etc. I can't do that on AA. 3. Forms of payment taken. AA integrates with PayPal. I prefer to use Stripe and give Canadian clients the option to pay via e-transfer. I can't do that on AA. I may not use both forever, but for now, it's a really nice tool to keep track of all my inventory, exhibitions and clients, alongside my website. Hope that helps! Tamara
Great inspiration for background papers! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for watching Wanda. Happy this inspired you!
Excellent I like it
Rob thank you I am 76 and my voice is evolving! I have worked for years without having any recognition for the passion I feel for my process. I have a studio and garage full of work. It’s just something that has to be done whether anyone ever appreciates it.
Thank you! Yes I’m obsessed with printing on the Gelli plate. So much fun. The options are endless. So I have an endless stack of papers for collage... 😅. Lots of love from Sweden 💖🙋♀️🇸🇪
Thanks for sharing! Now I have to ask, do you actually make things with the papers? Or just keep them because they are so beautiful? LOL! (Guilty here!)
Thank you for asking. I do frame some of them, for local exhibitions. Also I’m making notebooks, and fill them with prints mixed with plain papers. I have just started to make collage on canvases, so I’m really a newbie.
@@lillemorlagergren8770 being a newbie is the best. Sky's the limit!
An hour went too quickly! Could have listened to you guys all day.
Oh we could have easily chatted with him for hours too! What a great conversation with a really generous man.
Great conversation! Thank you!
Thanks for listening Darlene! There were so many great take-aways for me!
What an amazing conversation with you all! Love the screenshot at the end😊
Thanks for watching!
Super!💙💙💙
Thanks! Let me know if you give it a go!
This video did inspire me. Terrific quick demo.
Thanks Marilyn. I love to hear this!
Fabulous paintings. Well done video
Thanks so much for your kind words Margaret! I appreciate you watching and commenting xx
Thanks for this walk through, sharing your process in creating this new series. The contrasts in combining organic painted shapes, collage, and crisp solid areas is really exciting!
Thanks so much Lisa for taking the time to watch and comment. I'm really excited by the direction my work is taking and am looking forward to having the opportunity to show some of it locally this spring!
