Good job! More Mantic videos pls... ;)
I have the Mars set a great ship and set to start an Italian fleet or even Alliance
I believe I covered the Mars fleet a while back. Nice!
I would love to see a Battle Report for this game!
Not something I plan to do I'm sorry.
I enjoyed this vid so much I keep checking back for more Firefight or Deadzone battle reports on EOG. Both such great rules systems and I love both your enthusiasm for the quick-paced rules from Mantic.
Well I'll try to do some more in future. In the meantime, there's a lot of other stuff to enjoy!
Great stuff! Thanks for this.
You're welcome, cheers.
This is my favourite show of all time, so I probably need to get myself a copy of the game. Thanks for the review!
Sounds like you do!
Thanks for the video 👍 I absolutely love the show so looking forward to playing this! Do you know when it will be released in the uk?
No, perhaps contact the publisher Gamelyn Games?
Hmm I wonder wil we be seeing the new Necromunda box on this channel ?
Gee, I wonder?
After playing Skaventide I'm left wondering why there are no Skaven in Necromunda?? The rats need to be in *everything*!
@@oneofmanyAndyRobertsons Well, there are no skaven in the WH40K universe - not yet, anyway...
I think I am with you on the board it does not look good and so far has put me off from buying it, but your review about the game play may make me think again. Thanks for doing such a great review
It's such a shame, but otherwise the game is definitely worth having.
Cant get this nowhere in Europe...
Wayland Games in UK has 3 copies atm. Found by board game price finder webpage. But other than that it looks hard.
I picked up the Ruined Realmshaper standalone, but it's lacking instructions. Everything seems simple to assemble but how does the gem stay in place in the bowl?
I believe it connects to the 4 struts in the bowl - or it can just sit in there.
You are so right in all your criticism, it's infuriating how much we are being taken advantage of as fans of this IP
Like French in this game, as per real life, quirky and different.
Really, all 65 million of them? 🤣
Everyone take a shot every time the Skaven player rolled for saves he shouldn't have. You will not make it to the end.
Uhhhh, oops? 😬😅 As usual, my first time playing a new system means I have practically *zero* idea what I'm doing! Peter is the rules machine, I'm just the enthusiastic, sneaky-BS guy 😁😎
Can you give me an example? I missed the errors, but then I'm keeping track of everything, and filming, in this first game. If you can be more specific I'll tr6 not to mke the same errors next time - in any case, we both had a good time and we all make mistkes now and then. No real humans or rats were harmed.
@@EsotericOrderGamers so to be honest I was fast forwarding through the game as I was laying in bed. But I can give two examples I remember. There were attacks on the grey seer from Prosecutors, -1 rend. He has a 6+ save, so I need 6's. There was also a rend 2 on rat ogres, same scenario. All good, glad you guys enjoyed. I have played a few, finding Stormcast to be way stronger than Skaven. Not even close really. You can still score with Skaven, but they don't have the punching power.
Don't know about you but two or three drinks is just getting started in my book 🤣 Anyway, first game, there was always going to be some errors. Skaven have the numbers, so I guess the strategy is either to try to avoid the Stormcast attacks as much as possible, or overwhelm targets. More games required to find out!
Oh, I think we assumed that if you have a 6+ save you always save on a 6 despite the modifiers, but perhaps you don't? Can't find it clarified in the rules.
Hi there. great review! What do you think of the game a year and a half later? Did it fulfil its early promise?
Yes, I still play and enjoy it. For me it's the best of the Garphill Games I've played, because it has a strong theme, strong player interaction, and well-define goals beyond victory point collection.
Genuinely frustrated I can't see anyone about my place stocking/playing this as the sprues look refreshingly non-frustrating nor the game rules.
Hmm, that's no good! Actually, there's the same problem here in NZ, I'm just lucky to be sent product for review from Warcradle direct. Why not contact them and see if there are any distributors in your area?
Love the aesthetic of the alliance ships, unfortunately I also love the aesthetic of a few other factions a bit more. So it will be a while till I dip my toes into the alliance lol. Love the Dystopian Wars content and can't wait to see more of it, especially if there's more batreps to come
Thanks! Yeah, this faction possibly suffers a bit from the 'cool, but there are so many other cool options' as well syndrome! 🤣
Not a fan of the Alliance. Don't hate them, they just leave no impact. Most of it is probably the design. That or the amount of skimming units at launch.
Skimmers are pretty cool, but it's tough when there are so many distinctive factions to choose from.
The clarification of not moving during a failed charge is in the glossary under “Charge”
There's another rule of rules writing - don't put crucial clarifications in glossaries...! All they had to do is put that sentence "otherwise unit stays where it is" in the main rules proper.
Very nice sportmanship there letting him.move those little subs back. Played my first game the other day, 1000 pts. Was a great game but took 3 hours lol. Was again the Common weath with that Borrodino. Managed to get damanged generator every turn on it so never got to see that ice blast against me
It can take a while to play! As for sportsmanship, well it's the only way to play isn't it?
What primer color are you using? 16:20 It seems very slightly off-white. I was myself planning to go grey and zenithal it with ivory and white, for speed paints, but I'm not sure
Must be the lighting - it's just Codex White spray. I don't find zenith painting worth the trouble, it's just covered up by the contrast paints in most cases anyway.
Thank got for this vid. Mine just arrived the other day and have been genuinely apprehensive about this
Don't thank him, thank me, he had nothing to do with it! 🤣
A fun battle report guys!
Very glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Actually, guys, to win the game, your opponent has to be 10 points behind “at the end of their turn”, not at the end of your own turn. You can never win just after scoring.
Well that's no fun! You should win on a score, surely! Oh well, rules and all. 🤣
I would love to see some battle reports on some of these Warbands!!
Looks awesome! May I ask what color you used for the grey ?
Sorry mate I did this 2 years ago. I can hardly remember what I had for breakfast. 🤣
Dont worry. Wisest three words ever.
Have you ever looked into archworlde? That's a very good game and it's an independent creator too, models are sculpted by him
Wow, another impressive tabletop miniatures game! There are just so many these days ... sadly, there are so only many hours available to learn, paint and play ... Looks great, reminds me a bit of Moonstone in that it has a sense of humour.
Aye! It was watching the moonstone video you did that reminded me. Should you find the time, I highly recommend it!
I'll give the rules a look through.
ArcWorlde, Twisted and Moonstone have always sat in that fun, 'grimsical' and Hensonian space that I love - wargaming should never take itself *too* seriously I feel!
I 100% agree. The whole point of playing is just for a bit of fun, right!
If you fail a charge roll, your unit does not move.
Thanks, I think they really should have clarified this in the rules, but I've got it sorted now!
...but it benefitted me so much to get that extra movement!! 😎🤣
Yeah, lucky I won anyway!
They can't get cover because of fly, but aren't they -1 to be hit because of fly?
No, if you have FLY you don't get -1 to hit, for cover or otherwise.
Spectacular. I've tried to watch other videos start to finish but I got bored pretty quickly. You guys got me entretained the entire time. Can't wait to watch another one!
Thanks, my man! Peter and I don't get nearly as many games in as we'd like, but when we do we have a blast - full credit to him for all the editing work to keep the fun without the faff (or my endless digressions 😅)
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! With all due modesty I get bored with most batreps too, and what strikes me as far less entertaining ones get tens of thousands of views while mine get very few in comparison ... but that's the usual state of affairs, I'm used to it after 11 years or so!
I thought Blackstone Fortress was really good as a cooperative game- as long as you use the card expansions , which make the game much harder!
What card expansions?

Fun game!
Great game - can't wait to play it myself soon!
Was that a Cows With Guns reference at 10:30? 😂 Amazing. Thanks for doing this, guys! I'm really looking forward to 4e AoS.
You'll have to ask Andy - my obscure references tend to be a little less, well, current. 🤣
Yay, my turn to finally make an obscure, generationally-specific song reference, and somebody got it!! You're clearly a man of excellent and discerning taste, Christopher! 😁
@@EsotericOrderGamersha, whereas my 'recent' references are only a mere 30 years old now! 😅🤣
@@oneofmanyAndyRobertsons I was gonna say the same thing! Hahaha. I remember my dad playing that song for me when I was a kid (I'm 34). Lot of comedic bluegrassy music like that. I approve this reference! 😁
@@ChristopherRidgeand I approve your approval! 😎 In hindsight, some *really* weird stuff made it onto the radio back in the 90's - my poor, impressionable teen brain! 🤣
Good video thank you. Think I'll get into AOS with spearhead, seems like combat patrol was a test that didn't quite work and they figured out for spearhead.
I'm hoping now the next Warhammer 40K version gets this whole treatment, including the colour coded abilities.
You can't move on a charge if you can't end within a half inch of an enemy unit. You also don't have to declare which unit you're charging at until after you roll. So, you declare a charge, roll the dice, then can move that far as long as you end within 1/2 inch of any enemy unit. While the rules could have clarified the moving more specifically, it does say that the move MUST (and doesn't add an "if possible" clause) end within 1/2 inch of an enemy unit which implies that you can't move if that isn't true.
Thanks! That's the worst written rule ever - they definitely should have clarified that you don't move if you can't get within 1/2".
From battlereports I've watched the charge rule if failed the unit remains in place.. I haven't played so I'm sure someone else will confirm. :)
That “hairy bastard” reveal really made me laugh. 😂
Awesome, can't wait for an enthusiastic battle report. You guys really bring the spirit of wargaming to the table.
Thankyou so much - we aim to entertain (and enjoy ourselves too)!
Thanks, man - enthusiasm *is* my superpower, after all 😉
I'm just getting into Dystopian Wars and this was one of the first few videos I watched that sold me on the game. Would absolutely love to see more batreps and content on the game
More new releases coming very soon!
@@EsotericOrderGamers I look forwards to it!
Fantatic battle! Such great terrain! Beautiful work on this! So to clarify: Dark Machination is a melee attack that can only target downed characters. Its high risk high reward. Other clarification is on "Beast" trait on the Bone Fury preventing it from interacting with objectives. Disengage was already discussed in the comments here. Excelent camera work on this!
Thanks, and thanks for those clarifications. And by the way, we share the same excellent surname. 🤣
@@EsotericOrderGamers oh snap! Look at us relicbladin' Giffs!
@@joshgifford5821 Further proof that everyone with our surname gets called 'Giff' at some point or another! 🤣
Great video, thanks
BAAAATTTLE REPOOOOOORRRRTT!!!!!
Yeah!
23 minutes of essentially explaining nothing why exactly the game is fun.
And yet I've got 22,000 subscribers and you've got 114.
Played this about 10 years ago and really enjoyed it. The rules then weren't overly complicated really, but they did take a while - splitting up all the weapons and assigning shots from the larger ships could be prime analysis-paralysis time
I think the rules are pretty different now, though I must admit I never played the original Spartan version.
Fyi @13:48 the colour temp changes. No biggie. But thought you would like to know! Great painting ;)
Yeah, wish I actually had a production budget. 🤣
Love the painting on the Stormcast! Is the silver just Leadbelcher? And what silver did you mix with the Retributor Armour to tone it down?
I used a lighter silver for the base coat as they're 'heroic' - probably Runefang Steel. Probably the same for the gold mix. I don't worry about recipes and paint names, I just grab whatever feels right at the time!
@@EsotericOrderGamers Thanks!
whats the base size on those rat ogres? 50mm or 60mm
50mm
Thankyou for saving me the time to check that 🤣
The war hound with his legs back to front, rookie maintenance crew big whooopsy
Don't worry it's magnetised - a simple twist and it's fixed!
