    In addition to this series and _My Happy Marraige,_ Evan Call also did the music for _Violet Evergarden._ If you have not watched the series (It's from Kyoto Animation, so the pedigree is impeccable.) I reccomnmend you do, especially as it touches upon similar themes as _Frieren_ with regards to greiving and loss. My father died in July of 2020, and my mother followed him in April 2021. This series has helped me deal with that the same way it's helped you with your brother. My condolences on that, by the way.

    I may give this a go. Need something to mend my wounds from watching Your Lie in April back in 2016. Though I admit I’ve sort of fallen out of the anime phase. Is this truly worth watching? Will I be happy I did?

    Not a fan of this one, while I do like that we get a focus on college students, I feel like this anime doesn’t really land in terms of making our characters very fun or likeable. In terms of a good anime about college students I rec The Tatami Galaxy or even Honey and Clover!

    Really weak justification, most stories show characters grow and change over time. Or at least give more time than the end of a hospital stay. His glow up happening between episodes is weak and the story becomes serious face anime man and his power fantasy.

  • @fanficlover
    @fanficloverАй бұрын

    Ngl, this was pretty much the reason I dropped the story as well. Yeah, sure there were some underlying mysteries for the world and why the power exists, but when the first like 10 chapters is introducing a character then immediately changing him to a new character, it's just a turn off for my interest because it conveys a lack of ability to properly develop a character outside of sudden and drastic changes in short time spans.

    As someone who’s aroace, I normally stray away from romance anime, but I got recommended this show because it was “not what you’d expect”. I was so worried that it would end up being a “the girl falls in love in the end” type anime which I find extremely annoying and like it’s ignoring the mc’s actual feelings and pushing love onto her. And at the start, it seemed like it was going in this direction so I put it on in the background…but then shit hit the fan and I was glued to my screen. Honestly if you’re aroace or just don’t like romcoms, I actually recommend this one because it will change your expectations!

  • @timv4342

    I agree wholeheartedly. His transition into a stoic confident semi-asshole is jarring. Also *spoilers* At a certain point (probably towards the end of S2) literally no other character can do anything of relevance and they all serve to glaze Jin woo. The amount of times going forward ur going to hear “who’s this guy, surely he can’t be THAT strong, OMG WTF AHHH PLZ WE NEED HIM” is going to get annoying. Other gripes are that he keeps saying he cares and loves people but we never see him interact with them at all on a personal level. At least if I felt the story was about how absolute power makes u distant and more of a dick and how that’s bad then it would be good but the story treats his distance like a good thing. No character has any kind of arc other than realizing how awesome jin woo is. It just sucks cuz the fights and powers he gets are genuinely cool. Wasted potential imo

  • @ColdComplaints
    @ColdComplaintsАй бұрын

    They really do the bare minimum to say he has a family but I literally remember like one scene of him talking to his sister and zero scenes past episode 4 of him expressing any real emotion or connection to anyone. Sucks to hear that this only gets worse. Will never understand the appeal of a stoic character with no personality getting strong.

    Reminds me of this trope in TTRPGs, of the edgy loner character - these characters are fun for a few minutes, but ultimately become one-note and boring. I don't want to watch a loner edgelord who thinks being lonely is a good character trait. I want charactersto be, well, characters who interplay well with each other. Characters who have strengths and flaws. Characters whose flaws get themselves in hot water, but whose strengths and trust in each other win the day. What I'm saying is I want to watch Konosuba.

    " IT'S OVER 9000 ! ............ thousands of thousands of thousands, and add few thousands on top. When he gets over 100 is downright ridiculous.

    many people dont understand this is a story about identity but they only see it surface level as a fighting anime. Aj believes losing his virginity will offer him an answer to who he is but he learns through his ideals. Ever since that shrine fight, he lost a sense of who he was after rejecting his friend bc he got scared, rejecting his own beliefs. its an amazing journey to see him being uncertain and self sabotage. he is not a bad person, just someone with no direction learning what he cherishes and is afraid of losing. when that girl said “you’re a husk that pretends to be what people tell him to be” that was for him and he built upon that telling himself who he wants be, returning to his responsibility of being an honest friend.

    The show isn't held back by a lack of confidence in their story. It's a story about different world running into each other. They're not adding other secret organisations because they're worried they don't have enough material, but to tell the story of someone who's stuck between several stories. What's you're describing as the main weakness of the show is what I thought was its greatest strength. Production issues, though ... yeah. I laughed out loud when the image of someone moving was just a still picture dragged around. This show did not get anywhere near the budget it deserved.

    For me, this was the anime this season that most personally impacted me. It's difficult to describe, but the way the writing weaves the story and relationships together without having to say things directly was just very refreshing. Like just comparing Zabu and Arajin's different relationships with Matakara, you can see that Zabu cares so very much, but he sort of belittles Matakara's dream of becoming Honki while Arajin won't hold himself up that anymore and thus avoids Matakara, but he also won't tell Matakara not to try for it cuz he understands it still means a lot to him. There's just a lot of interesting layers and themes along with the comedy and action that really made me love this show. I hope more people get to experience that.

  • @ColdComplaints
    @ColdComplaints2 ай бұрын

    Very well said, it’s really interesting all the layers that characters have. Zabu especially is a character I loved to see grow, especially from how he is in episode 1. Getting to learn more about Marito and Kenichiro was one of my favorite aspects. From their mutual respect to their back stories and motivations, it definitely felt more meaningful. Just a really well done series

    I found this anime refreshing. I think because the MC embraces the Heel life. If that term is strange to you, a heel is a purposeful bad guy, often in melodramas like professional wrestling. That mustache twirling, hit-em with a chair while the refs back is turned kind of villain. He's doing this for the boos and that's what I find hilarious. He isn't trying to be everyone's best buddy, he just wants to live a quiet life in some backwater, but the game's main story keeps pulling him back in. Because he is so OP, the normal effects of that life, like being shunned or ostracized, are fine by him and sometimes preferred. It gets right what a lot of villainess isekais get so wrong.

  • @ColdComplaints

    The anime has been renewed for a second season. I thought the first season was alright, it's giving me something different to watch. I mean seriously it's like they're trying to cover every anime trope out there. Plus it also covered the first two volumes of the light novel, so season 2 will most likely cover volumes 3 and 4. I'm currently on volume 6 where things are getting even crazier. Also Shizuka's age is actually in the triple digits, don't know if it makes it better or worse.

  • @ColdComplaints
