I really liked this show. I was scared they would make her fall in love or "cure her" because "its just normal to fall in love and be interested in romance" but that is not quite what they did with the show. She is a very endearing character but the whole show doesn't carry an anti aro/ace message, which I was scared of. Very much recommend too!

True! I honestly thought they were going the aro/ace direction at first but she doesn't seem to be that, considering she had to snap herself out of being attracted/falling in love with the guys because she doesn't want to let Riri win lol Although she might be demi?

@@louise4152She's just a normal teenager who has attraction to boys but doesn't want to deal with it and deal with something like romance. Also demisexual doesn't even exist, the word is basically a normal relationship. Almost everyone bonds with someone emotionally which is basic attraction.

@@PleaseIgnoreSomeofMyCommentsHey, please don’t invalidate demisexuals like this. Demisexuality is often considered to be on the asexual spectrum because it implies a lack of sexual attraction unless a strong emotional connection exists. I know it’s common for a sexual attraction to develop due to an emotional connection, but many allosexual people can feel attraction to strangers. Asexuality is a spectrum and it sucks to see invalidation of asexual labels so casually.

What's really cool about Anzu is that she actually acknowledges that the male love interests are attractive. It's not like most heroines/protagonists in harems where they're oblivious to like 5 god-like beauties beside them. Yet, she still follows her goal to avoid romance even if she gets sudden heart throbs! Also, I'd like to take a moment to appreciate how good the friendship between Junta and Tsukasa has with each other. They did get jealous a bit of course, but they don't lash out in argument like most male love interests (aka fighting for the girl). It's amazing how both of them really understands each other's feelings towards Anzu and doesn't hold a grudge, still remaining friends. It really lowers the overwhelming drama and misunderstandings that most shoujo animes have. It would be like 5 episodes to get back together and apologize. What he mentioned earlier in the review of "Anzu standing up for herself", is my favorite part of how she is. She doesn't follow the standards of needing to be protected every time, (Once again, like most shoujo animes.) and she mostly prioritizes her friends' feelings instead of hers by protecting or standing up for them. It's like they reversed roles, which makes a stronger bond towards all of her friends, trusting her and avoiding more overwhelming conflict. SO YEAH, I really enjoyed Romantic Killer because it's really different from most romcom animes. I WOULD KILL TO SEE ANOTHER SEASON! >:DD

Even though Anzu's "quirkiness" is dialled to 11😂 she's also the closest depiction of a real teenage girl - loud, messy and violent🤣 I can tell the writers probably have spouses like Anzu or Kazuki who give off "married couple vibes" with their every interaction.

I’ve focused so much on my personal hobbies and interests that I’ve missed out on so many romantic opportunities and other life stuff as well. This anime left me swooning over Anzu's platonic love for her friends. There are several messages that I've taken away from the show like how Riri set up the cockroach incident and it essentially led to a closer bond between Anzu and Kazuki by the end- reminds me of the movie Yes Man (although Anzu was the anti-Yes hero, I think we get to see this idea become more obvious to Kazuki when he admits his feelings about Anzu, but it applies to everyone in some way) how there are opportunities that we face in life that may not turn out the way we want them to, but down the line could still lead to some of the most memorable and gratifying moments ever. Riri's magic obviously initiated much of the relationships throughout the show, but the idea that any situation we decide to face whether we like it or not could create a more fulfilling life as long as we remain true to ourselves, is something that I appreciate being portrayed in an anime like this whereas typically there are plots that lack empathy, self-awareness, and respect for boundaries, let alone touching on the revelation of facing life with grace. It's hard to believe these characters are in high school with the way they've handled everything rather maturely. Also the dubbed voice acting was incredibly entertaining for me- I can't stop thinking about this show!!!

I like the fact that she doesnt give up her hobbies just to be more normal or be into boys. All of the charscters. Especially riri, are likeable and funny. You root for the childhood friend as much as tsukasa. The rich guy is funny in his own irritating way.

The thing that stunned me the most is how human and good the communication is. To a kind of ridiculous degree. There are certain expectations one carries for both storytelling and anime after a time that are hardly ever broken beyond misnomers and it makes it difficult to openly care without suspending criticisms that would normally be levied. I've been long past the stage in my life where miscommunications happen, where now things are spoken about evenly, immediately and with honesty on all occasions - seeing conflict bred through a lack of civility in stories is borderline exhausting and to watch people just not say things because its difficult in the moment is aggravating. But there is just something so, authentically human - by which I mean people who've learnt from social experiences - that carries in the composition of the whole cast. For a show so frank in discussion of sociability it makes sense but it was by no means something I would ever expect. Anzu just says what she needs to say when it needs to be said, Junta and Kazuki have a relationship outside of their connections to the protagonist and discuss their feelings on where the weirdness has left them on a few occasions. But most importantly nobody is given explosive dialogue outside of how grounded conflict can truly feel, and it helps keep the show BOTH more realistic and more comfortable. Two scenes in particular really stood out to me in this way; when the pushy girls wanted to speak with Kazuki, to which Anzu rebuffed them, and when Ryuuya was acting up at the karaoke for the private reconciliation. Neither scene had loud shouting, dramatic musical stings, it just did away with the hyper-comedic affectation and said this is how this happens. Where anime typically will appeal to your virtue of empathy in order to best make you hate the 'opponent' in the conflict, Romantic Killer just didn't do that, yet we still got the same results - or, I'd argue, better ones. I didn't come away from the pushy girls at the start of the seasons cursing them, I felt sorry for them because, while a little forward, nothing about what they were doing was mean, they were just a little inconsiderate - and the show gave both sides in the simplest way, said Anzu didn't like that and for things to move on: it has to be resolved. There were probably hurt feelings but I held some measure of pity for the girls, because it was the best outcome. In fact, in this very vein it was stampeding over the miscommunication trope which had been garnered by Kazuki's unwillingness to be outspoken, making a point in and of its resolution. It - to those who've not read into these kinds of things - may seem arbitrary and just a way to prove in the narrative that Anzu has Kazuki's back, but as someone who's seen this kind of ploy used to wrench at heartstrings (earned or not) it was very refreshing, enough so that I'd willingly say it was the very best I've ever seen this done in anime. The same thing with the karaoke debacle, it kept the discomfort inside the show. The uncomfortability exists with knowing an issue like this was going to stew or not resolve, but the fore-thought of character action displays that the future exists beyond the issue at hand. Anzu and Junta to a degree, both confront things talking in their own way. The way Ryuuya acts in the scenario is uncalled for, but it lets everyone be an adult and recognise that so it can be meaningfully addressed. However, it also manages to not minimise the conflict out of value, as it is easy to look at the way this is done as "too tame". Thing is, it doesn't need to be explosive and loud, cruel and uncomfortable, to send its message or provide a point in narrative. It showed very well growth in characters we weren't familiar with from new perspective, as well as a lack thereof in a new cast member, but it didn't say it was wrong or right, it just said that the others didn't like it - and we well know because they choose to actually say so. When they all go back in and everyone is happy to re-engage with their friend because they value each other as actual people, it genuinely got me emotional, which is a buck-wild thing to say for a scene as plain as it was, but anime just doesn't do that - it doesn't normally let a small issue be small. The overall portrayal of keeping people on this level where words can carry meaning, but they don't need a deeper stewed subtext if its replaced by honesty, is unbelievable. I cannot think, at least in the heat of the moment now (having just recently concluded the season), of any other example of story that has done it this well. And that's kind of what made me love and respect the show. It has a lot of ups and downs, and if you want to be critical I'd call the expository nature of episode 1 an example of a VERY rocky start, but so little of it bothered me when rowing the current that was relatable people acting on their values and just freaking talking! I truly cannot get over that enough, nobody talks like this in nearly any media! It was just so good! It was enough that the layers to it in Saki's story and the conclusion carried with the small actions in others too, and the fact the 'typical' miscommunication, or shuttering of information, existing in Kazuki was used to pull on the unseen narrative threads was excellent - and letting the social compass of direction push through with Anzu and her friends involvement made it feel really gratifying. If anything I came away from this show more than nearly any other, with the idea that every person (beside maybe Riri, they and Anzu could have had more screen time put to the actual relationship) could be the friends they are portrayed as in real life. And that level/type of comfort is the kind of comfort, I personally, am looking for and want in my social oriented stories - and its sorely missing everywhere but here.

I was so worried that it would end up being a “the girl falls in love in the end” type anime which I find extremely annoying and like it’s ignoring the mc’s actual feelings and pushing love onto her. And at the start, it seemed like it was going in this direction so I put it on in the background…but then shit hit the fan and I was glued to my screen. The animation is really, really well done for the comedy portions. It has this right amount of "bounce" and fluidity that helps enhance the chaotic gags it is paired with. Most anime don't utilize this. It is what makes this anime much more fun to watch. Some jokes do fall flat, but there is enough good ones to make up for it.

One of the things I really thankful of (And hopefully stay that way) even if there are weird and unique love interest they didn't have the adult, incest or a literal child as a love interest like in some reverse harem anime (LOOKING AT YOU BROTHER COMPLEX ). Another things I love is that, they also takes time to develop their character outside of Anzu. Where in some cases the love interest live really center around the MC and how they gets MC's love. But in here we see they have their own activity, lives aside from chasing the MC which really feels refreshing.

I'm on an anime kick, and watched it all today! Anzu/Red (my nickname for her) was amazing, and so were all of the other characters! I wish there was more of this show, but I'm okay with it ending how it did! Although after watching Toradora, Golden Time, and this, I'm starting to worry there's a stalking stalking problem out there.

I randomly just clicked on this show because, "hey, I haven't seen an anime in a while. Let's try something out." It started off odd for me. I was going to find something else after the 1st episode. But, I just let the episodes play through. I actually kinda enjoyed it.

I thought Anzu was so relatable and funny and so much unlike any other anime girl I've ever seen. I watched it probably three times already, but I do think that Anzu is a bit too perfect. She doesn't really have any faults and I did not see her character change. Anzu is more like a catalyst for other characters' arcs. Maybe this was intentional. I also loved how they made Tsukasa seem like the typical arrogant, pretty boy who does not talk much, only to throw his trauma at you and make you realise that you completely misjudged him und the seriousness of this anime. Tsukasa's story is the reason for me why this anime is really great and not only a funny, silly anime🤷🏽‍♀️

I lot of people ship Anzu with Kazuki or Junta but I personally love to ship her with Riri. At first I couldn’t stand Riri but, by the end, I couldn’t help but ship them with Anzu.

I can't. She might be a good friend in the end, but she's just too loud and annoying. Staying friends is the best possible course. I can't imagine the loud Anzu and the annoying Riri. In fact, the three males for Anzu precisely followed the compatibility with Anzu. Junta and Kazuki are very calm and gentle, even the rich guy is calm and willing to learn from his mistake (as opposed to many oresama types tropes in other anime), which is why their interactions with Anzu all end up with both sides growing as a person. With Anzu and Riri, however, they're just going to fight and fight, no development or growth as people but certainly good way to vent as friends.

It is for me though. I watch basically every movie in sub, because I just like the original voices better and also I'm a really fast reader, so pacing is not a problem for me. It's also a good way to learn a language I guess... memorizing certain words unknowingly

They act like being popular is the worst thing ever. Imagine there are some people that are completly alone without anyone to help them. They suffer from depressions, anxiety and sadness. This show doesnt know a thing about real problems

  • @rachelciel3330

    @rachelciel3330

Sounds like you're projecting to me. It didn't say being popular is the "worst", but it shows that being popular is not all that good, idiot. Kazuki got a stalker who ruined his reputation and almost r4ped him when he was merely a middle-schooler, Junta had to cope with that "I was ugly and then became good-looking" situation which made him develop quite an inferiority complex where he doesn't believe himself to be even comparable to other men, even the rich guy became indifferent to human relations because everyone fawned over him, not all three issues are equal in severity but it still shows being popular is not all the good things. Just like people like Anzu for example who is content with being introverted in a small circle, but there's another example of people living in the small circle feeling miserable. You're an idiot, through and through.
