The Irish Nation Lives

The Irish Nation Lives

The Irish Nation Lives will follow the course of the Irish Revolution, from the conscription crisis of May 1918 to Éamon De Valera's letter to the "Legion of the Rearguard" that brought the Civil War to an end in May of 1923. 100 years on we will cover these events, put them in the context of their time and take a view of Irish history as it would have appeared to the men and women on the ground at the time. Hey I always wondered, what is the transcription and translation of the Gaelic sentence you say at the start of every video?

Learned a lot from your War of Independence videos, especially the small, local stories about places I know! Thank you for all your efforts.

I suppose if the complexities, realities and narratives contained in this video are sufficiently ignored then one can apply labels to present parties and say “I told you so”. Properly understood, however, this is a fascinating edge of a very interesting and formative period of Irish history. Thanks.

Thd figure that appeared at the foot of her bed blamed herself for the deathbof her child. This made Maud nervous becauze of past trauma and refused to ackowledge the figure I feel. I hope Maud doesnt mind me saying. I love her. This us Justice you see for her?❤

Mauds child died. She cracked wide open. George. At 2 years. Then she conceived Essie , by Georges tomb side in France, in the hope George would come back to her. Maud tried to conceal Essies identity. The Masons are weird from my perspective. I hope you dont mind me saying. Shouldnt dabble. Unhealthy in my opinion, sacred journey IS life too.I knew Yeats was that. Maud wasnt interested. He was a predator I feel. Unhealthy. Couldnt accept No. And went for her daughter? Weird I feel. OA knew too.

Am I right that O 'Duffy at some point ended up in Spain on he side of Franco? Am I also right that he and his volunteers were asked politely to leave Spain as they were enjoying themselves a little too much. My mother use to have a bit of a chuckle as one of her wider family was a blue shirt, she thought that he had a bit of a problem s he liked 'dressing up'. He ended up in England after the second World War and made a fortune,. He however kept his past to himself - wonder why?

It's such an interesting period in Irish history, Kevin O'Higgins interests me as a great 'what if ?' in this period, would things have been different if he had lived to become leader of Cumann na nGaedheal ? My mothers family were anti-treaty during the civil war, and my father's family were pro-treaty I feel mainly because Kevin O'Higgins was a friend my of great-grandfather's at the time, and I think the treaty split did come down, for some, to the personal loyalties of the women and men of the Civil War, and post Civil War period. Great history thank you, very thought provoking, particularly when thinking about some aspects of current Irish politics.
