On this channel I show parents how to simplify home education and make it more effective and enjoyable! I also help parents understand and apply Charlotte Mason's methods in a simple, approachable way. On this channel you'll learn how to start homeschooling, how to teach a variety of subjects, and what those teaching methods look like in a real home.
I started the Simple Wonders podcast last year to discuss big ideas in parenting and teaching, in other words the WHY behind methods that actually work. And on this channel I show you the HOW of applying those principles in a real life setting.

I love this idea, I’m definitely going to try it when my kid next school year
I love this idea. For when my lil ones are older. We are currently nature journaling. And I love it❤ thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I found you a few weeks ago. This video is so helpful and one that I didn't know I needed to see until I watched it. There are so many books out there and book lists are gold, but videos like this are even better! I love all your videos. I gain absolutely nothing from those popular homeschool channels and youtubers. I hope you will continue to make more videos.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! I’m glad this was helpful, as long as they’re helping other mommas I’ll continue making them ❤️
Where did you get the first reader?
I got it on Amazon 👍
Excellent video
Thank you!
Where can you get coppies of Charlotte Mason's books?
You can buy them on Amazon, Living Books Press, or read them for free on amblesideonline.org

Your flexibility to try more independent reading was very helpful to me. I have three boys and there was a time when they were younger that group reading was more captivating for them but now I get blank stares and I personally have a hard time reading loudly enough over the clinking of magnet tiles and legos... I need to change things up. thank you for sharing.
Can you link the Tomie dePaola book? I found the one of Mother Goose rhymes on Amazon, but I'm not sure it's the one you showed. Thanks.
Yes! Here’s my Amazon associates link: www.amazon.com/dp/0399212582/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_RTZPN5FN1193Y7624NYA?linkCode=ml2&tag=simplewonde0d-20
Just curious, when do you use this? I’ve seen your other video on this but I feel like I’ll never pull it out unless it’s incorporated somehow but was confused about when to pull it out for my children. Do you have a specific time or are they good about doing on their own? Thanks!
I keep it in a metal magazine folder with my boys other notebooks. After family gather time (scriptures, music, poetry) they all get out their calendars and record the day, weather, etc. it’s just a part of our daily school routine
Yes, I’m interested in brain balancing resources. Thank you!
Great! I linked to everything in previous comments. Let me know if you don’t see it.
Oh my goodness I love the idea of the calendar! Why didn't I think of that? I wanted to incorporate things like Moon phases etc but assumed they had to be in their nature journal 😣 Thank you 🙏🏽
Curious if you do “written” sorts for your older students? Almost like a spelling test?
Also do you set timers for these activities? And do them a few times a week?
I do written sorts with my oldest son. I usually do it after a blind sort.
This is so helpful thank you
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 😊
Thank goodness I found your channel!! For the last three years I’ve homeschooled our 3 older boys and we’ve always done science, Nature Study and History as a group and my middle child was just like your son. Then all the boys would all be talking and I have trouble getting through the lesson. This whole time I thought it was either a curriculum problem or a ME problem. I never thought to separate them on those subjects! I was really worried about it because our youngest son is going to start school this year and I was worried about how all of this would work with 4 of them. Thank you so much, this was very insightful and impeccably timed considering I’m trying to plan for our next school year right now. I will try separating this year and keeping group subjects to Art and Bible maybe…🤔
🥳🙃😅👏🏼🏔️🌲☺️☀️
So glad I found you, I'm finding your videos so useful.
I love these notebooks too although my little dude cannot handle a Monday start lol! Why do you do one check box in front and at the end of each task? Thank you!
One is for the child to check off when he finishes it, and then I check off the other one when he narrates to me.
❤ this for me to keep track of what subjects we worked on each day and record attendance
Thank you so much! May I ask how old your eldest son is? Would this method work for a middle schooler? My eldest is eleven. Thank you!
My oldest will be 11 next month. I think it works well for all ages! Especially older kids who are mature enough to be responsible for their days
Interested in the brain balancing!!
Check description and comments for links!
These are great! I didn’t know about the Children’s Plutarch. I will have to look into that one! We are studying Ancient Greece for Term 3 next year. So far, I’ve got Our Little Spartan Cousin of Long Ago for our historical fiction. I was debating on using Gruber’s so I’m glad to hear that it would be a little above my children’s heads right now at their ages.
I love the exit interview idea. Thank you so much for sharing.😅
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this! What videos did you watch for Geography? Would you please share it?
Human Planet, Europe From Above (also China and India), Dangerous Ways to School, and Earths Greatest Rivers are our favorites!
Hi … What is the reader you used in this video?
Reading Literature Primer or First Reader (I can’t remember which!)
🏠🤍🙏📚👪👩🏫😉💃🌱🌞🌥🌧🌂🥳🚘 👩🍳👨🍳👩🍳👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤💕💡💡💡💡💡💡💡🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
I tried family style this year for the first time and it didn’t go well for us either. My 7 year old daughter was listening well, but found it all too hard to keep up with. She was getting frustrated. I then gave her own books too and she flourished.
Loved hearing about your year .,This year was crazier than most years for us, because we have so many different ages. We also love documentaries for geography. 🙏My emoji for lots of prayers this year
Have you tried Math U See? It's a really good maths program and great for mastery.
👩🏻🍼🤪📣💬📚🥱🤫 I’m diving in to a CM Language Arts style next year. Im hoping it goes well. Having my daughter read her own books has been a game changer here too. 😊
😅🤫
I'd love to hear other documentaries you recommend for other parts of the world!
China From Above, India From Above, and Human Planet. There’s also a fun documentary-series on KZread I watch with my first graders - “Dangerous Ways to School”
🌪☀ some hard challenges this year but then the sun for enjoyment
Thank you! I really appreciate the honest insight because it was developmentally and individually appropriate.
Love the tip for geography! We used LMF this year in addition to others (7th grade).
I love all of the books you shared! Thank you.
Just found your channel, I love hearing about your year. I just posted an update about how our first year of homeschool went a week ago, though we are homeschooling at Kindergarten level, your video gives me insight in what’s to come, so thank you!
🤠😵💫😁🛫 We had a good year but definitely had some ups and downs. I agree about using documentaries for geography; It is much more tangible. Vincent also does so much better with narration when he reads it himself.
I would love to hear more about how you include the writing revolution on a weekly basis in your homeschool! We are beginning to use it also, and it would be very helpful to see how anothet family following CM principles incorporates TWR. :) Thank you for all you share here!
I'm working on a podcast and video on it! I've only used the sentence writing portion so far, as my son just started written narrations this year. We begin most lessons with a sentence exercise, like Because, But, So. This doubles as delayed narration!
Thank you, this is part of our time period for study next year.
This is just what I have been looking for! So excited for this series!
I loved this video and I’m so excited for this series. Book recommendations are my favorite
Thank you for this list! Do you have a physical timeline you recommend to hang in your home?
We actually use a century chart (it’s a 10x10 table) and book of centuries since we don’t have a wall large enough to fit a timeline. There are PDFs for these in my curriculum guides!
I print the century chart on a blueprint (24x36 size) paper from Office Depot so it’s large enough to use
Hi Jessica, I very much enjoyed this video! Would you share where you got your book of centuries from? I love the layout of that notebook.
Absolutely! It’s from SchoolNest. You can buy from her website or Amazon
@@simplewondersacademy Thanks so much!
I love this! I used to do something similar to this when I was a teen and completely forgot! I'm totally doing this with my kids.
Your exams sounds so much more fun than ours. 😂 We need a refresh! Thanks for all the great ideas!
You're welcome! I hope exams went well this year!
Thank you!!
Love this!
