Riding with Marshall

Riding with Marshall

Even if you are not a motorcyclist, you might be interested in the tight, unprotected curves of a mountain road, or maybe a serene ride on a sunny day in the Eastern plains. Perhaps you would like to know what life is like in Colorado or Wyoming, maybe South Dakota? My show is about riding in the open air to these places, visiting abandoned places like farmsteads and ghost towns along the way, with occasional restaurants thrown in for good measure.

Now if you happen to be a motorcycle enthusiast, then these rides (both machine and road), should be something you can relate to at full throttle!

Nice review, I'm especially curios about the windshield. I have a 2015 Fury I bought new and love it, still totally stock but for an upgraded radiator guard, however a windshield is coming very soon. In the worst possible fuel mileage conditions possible your bike should go 115 miles before the light comes on, I don't understand how your low that fast. I've got as much as 170 out of a tank of fuel on this bike before and as little as 121, riding circumstances makes a huge difference in fuel economy. With 2 cold start ups and a 4 mile trot to work with 7 red lights I always get 120 miles before the light comes on, and that's about as bad fuel mileage conditions as is possible though I often take a short ride after work which helps.

  • @gatorunleashed275

@@ridingwithmarshall Yes riding circumstances as I mentioned above. Normally cold starts and short trips equal less fuel mileage and yes the faster you go the less you average, Still not sure how yours is so low, after consuming about 2.5 gallons the fuel light comes on, so evidently running at 80 you are only averaging 39 mpg which isn't on par with my fury or other fury owners mileage based on the forums. Regardless I'm trying to decide on a windshield, the Memphis Shades Speed Demon is looking better all the time. Gotta have a windshield for Interstate riding, I do atleast. Enjoy your bikes and stay safe!

I brought a 2022 Pan Am Special, in March 2023, it gets ridden mostly every day. I did have the have the draining battery problem, I think it was more that he battery was sitting flat for 1 year and the battery was dodge. Recently I started to have a cut out problem, took the bike to the dealer and they found the that some of alternator magnets had come loose. Solution is to upgrade the alternator to the 2024 version, expensive but under warrantee.

The dealers around here know me, but in this case, it's a Demo bike provided for the purpose of test rides. Of the ADV bikes I've ridden, I like the Panamerica engine the best. The jury is still out though on the fuel pump issue. I don't live close enough to this dealer to risk killing a fuel pump and getting it towed to them. Heat is always an issue with Harleys. I need to ride it on a 90 degree day to see how bad it gets.

I owned a 2016 street rod. I’ve since sold it because it was just too uncomfortable driving much more than 50 miles! I too tried different exhaust on it, but found it to be way too loud and a really bad droning noise at highway speeds.😢 Like you mentioned, I lost much of my low end torque With different exhaust on it. With the stock exhaust system, the engine was so lean that driving around 40 mph in 5th gear, it bucked and surged terribly! Addressing my concerns with the dealer, they told me to run the bike in second and third gears all the time at those speeds. I found their suggestion to be unworkable. It was revving so high at these lower speeds It just took away all the fun of cruising. so after riding for a long season in Minnesota, March through mid November I parted ways with the VRod. The look was killer! But as you mentioned the riding 14:01 position and drivability issues, I traded it for a year, newer Dyna. Oh how I wished I could have changed things around and kept the VRod, I just couldn’t do it. Watching your video today brought back a lot of great memories of my bike, but I still think I did the right thing by choosing a different model within the Harley Davidson lineup I really liked your video and will continue to watch you! 👍

That's a Gen-2 Adventure model. It came with the engine crash bars, plastic engine cowling, a full complement of quick release aluminum luggage - ie panniers and top case, plastic handguards {though on this particular bike these have been replaced with aftermarket aluminum reinforced ones), and a nicer windshield {although this has also been replaced with an aftermarket windshield and adjustable mount). I have a 2013 Adventure model that might be my favorite bike in 52 years as an avid motorcyclist, especially considering the tiny price per mile it has cost me to own so far. This particular bike has the cast wheels, though a little later, maybe even this same model year but certainly by 2016, you could opt for the XT model with tubeless spoked wheels. The spoked wheels were supposed to be a dirt upgrade, but I personally prefer the cast ones, as I have never seen one get damaged if ridden sensibly. Besides, I contend that the DL650 shouldn't be your first bike of choice if spirited dirt duty is a top priority. Therefore, the spokes are just an unnecessary maintenance woe in my opinion ...but that's just me. Thanks for the great review. I still love mine and always enjoy a DL650 vid. 👍
