Which Adventure Motorcycle Did I Buy?

I've ridden a lot of great all-rounder, multipurpose motorcycles like the Honda NC750X, the BMW R1250GS and GSA, The Tiger 1200 Explorer, and the Honda Africa Twin. I had to decide though, which one has the best bang for the buck?

Dunlop Trail max 80/20 tires that are phenomenom. Had it on my 1200 GSA, absolutely great. Good luck with Moto Guzzi. Was my first bike (1995 California). Great engine, everything else sucked. But, they have gone long ways since making everything by hand. Still think BMW makes best bikes, period. Expensive though, but great.

Now trade that nc750 for a RE continental gt and our garages will match. This bike is extremely comfy and very fun in the twisties. I need to get the tires on mine changed also. Great choice, I think I'm gonna go tkc70 rocks but haven't decided yet.

You mentioned that you never rode the first generation Honda GoldWing Carbureted versions. Back in the mid 70’s we three navy buddies bought and built three Honda GoldWings into full fledged touring bikes complete with Vetter Windjammers, Saddlebags and backrests, Radios and CBs. Touring New England and riding cross country to different duty stations. A 75, 76 and 77 model. Honda never got the carbureted system right and they stumbled badly on off idle throttle response, especially when cold. Mine was a 77 and I never liked the bike. It felt like i was riding a big black Buick. After 6 months i traded it in on a used 76 BMW R90/6 and found heaven at 19 years old. In conclusion, you didn’t miss anything by not riding the Original GoldWing models. The three of us are still friends today.

I grew up on the back of an R90/S! My dad put a Vetter and side cases on it. You and your friends are who invented the Goldwing we know today! Honda noticed that people like yourselves were making touring bikes out of their super bike, and they took notes. The Touring Goldwing was born!

at 10:22. Why does a transverse V-Twin add stability? I don’t see an advantage to that configuration over an inline twin or a Vtwin inline engine. If anything it adds less stability due to torque reaction to throttle changes. The only advantage i see in that design is that the crankshaft is in line with the driveshaft. That reduces the power loss in transferring power to the rear wheel. Another question is does the bike have stability control and can you turn it off when off road? Did you test it off road and see if it recovers a spinning wheel situation?

It's exactly the inline crank plus the side to side action of the transverse engine that adds stability. The tires on this are more narrow than my NC700x, and it's more stabilized. Ask any BMW owner, it's like using a balance bar to walk a tight rope. An inline V-twin was an idea best left on the 1905 bicycles, as the rear cylinder rarely gets cooled enough on an air cooled engine. My Harleys ran way hotter on a 95 degree day than this one. Traction control is is lower in offroad mode, or you can turn it and ABS off completely in the menu. You can also program a custom ride mode. All that said, I'm only going to champion this bike so far. The engine isn't very inspiring. Euro5 emission standards choke all the pull out of it. Air-cooling means old-school vibration is back at idle, and only two valves per cylinder aren't doing the horsepower any favors either. It's a great all-rounder though for half the entry price of a BMW.

With the jugs hanging out they counteract each other when leaning into a corner. while the V opposed style of the GUZZI isn’t as effective as The opposed flat twin of a big BMWs it does help. The way to think about it is with Parallel twins and standard V twins when you start to tip a bike over it becomes apparent real quick that the mass becomes heavy real quick. To make the point I have a Goldwing that has a flat opposed 6 and a Triumph 1200 Explorer with an inline triple, the Goldwing feels much lighter when you lean it over as opposed to the Triumph even though the Goldwing is 300lbs heavier. Needless to say, the Triumph is pig heavy and harder to maintain balance with slow speed maneuvers. Which is why the Triumph is going to be sold or traded off. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the Triumph, but it’s a young man’s motorcycle not an old man’s motorcycle! 😂

@@bwlyon I had two goldwings myself! Effortless in turns! The Moto-Guzzi V85TT is so effortless to turn, it's ridiculous. You don't want to be behind the engine on an 85+ degree day though. Then again, my goldwing was just as hot behind the windshield.
