Thank you so much. I feel lost because my boy isn't diagnosed yet but in August I start the process. I'm sad because he used to say mom dad but stopped talking by 9ms . He make yelling and humming noesis. Do you think he will talk to me again? He can understand me and will hug me if I say I love you or if I say don't stand on that he will sit down stuff like that but won't talk and I need a way to know when he's thirty or when he's hungry and so on. Yes we eat 3 times a day have snacks keep water in cups none stop to avoid dehydration too. Thanks for the tips I'm subscribed ❤

So, your suggestion is to intentionally disrespect a child from a young age by forcing them to make eye contact before providing them with positive reinforcement? Imo, this approach could lead to exhaustion later in life because the child never learns their comfort zone where they can truly flourish.

Any tips for aggressive autistic kids? I work at a psychiatric hospital where autistic kids get dumped at relatively frequently, and they are hands down the hardest "psychiatric" patients to treat and deal with (despite autism not being remotely similar to schizophrenia, etc.)

The automatic toilets used to scare the hell out of me as a kid. I learned that when I go in I cover the sensor with some toilet paper and it keeps it from flushing. When I’m done I take the toilet paper off and put it in the toilet and let it do its thing.

It didn't work for some. The tongue is not flexible. The tongue needs exercises to enable the child to talk. Also if the child is past 6 years old training will be difficult。

I’m a behavior technician with autism. I had a horrible session last Friday. Nothing had happen except I receive a new supervisor and new client last week. I was thrown into the spot without training on the first day. On the third day, I got overlap and supervised so one of the aba supervisor tested me to do this and that. Before that I mention to him that I had social anxiety but don’t remember what he said. Right after it happen, I actually did everything wrong due to lack of training. I tried explain to him that it’s my second month working but the supervisor still said that he still wants me to be better or succeed. I almost had a bad emotional breakdown in the middle due to feeling discomfort and not feel supportive.

Could part of this be a short-term memory issue, or a "focus" (monotropism) issue? I know that even for myself, at 50+, with advanced degrees, it can be hard to focus on the steps/pieces of information in a multi-step sequence. The last piece of information becomes the "most important." After a certain developmental stage/age, it may not be that the autistic person cannot logically understand that other people have other streams of information, but rather that autistic people focus most strongly on the latter pieces of information because they forget former pieces of information, cannot process them concurrently, or do not see them as relevant.

My son is about to be 3 and he knows the names of things, but just doesn't like to speak. He's not nonverbal because he uses words, and occasional phrases like "what do hide mean?" But it's mostly babbling still. We're also still trying to get him to use the potty chair, but he just thinks it's a toy and refuses to sit on it half the time.
