This is exactly how the brain reacts when it can’t get its way when you are recovering from TMS the mind body syndrome. People on this channel probably don’t know what I’m talking about but anyone checking out extinction burst as it pertains to Dr.Sarno and the mind body syndrome can resonate with her example here. Makes perfect sense

it does make sense to do that, it is hard as they get louder and louder it is somewhat embarrassing when you think " I'm not going to be the mom with the screaming kid at Wal-Mart" this is my opinion because it happens to me everyday with my kids I mentioned before I have 2 kiddos that are autistic and my son also was diagnosed with ADHD and that blows my mind, how? I try so hard and I frustrate myself in the process...but I love to learn from you and take your advise...thank you

the thing is, you feel like the whole universe is staring at you. But the universe doesn't actually give a fk. You just feel like that. It's like when you're a teenager and think everyone in the street is staring at you and you feel really self-conscious, but less painful - nothing is as painful as being a teenager. I work in a grocery store, most people neither notice you nor care, i promise.

For once I'd like to see a video about actually understanding your autistic child instead of trying to fundamentally reprogram them like some kind of animal. ABA is dehumanizing conversion therapy. As an autistic person, it feels like everything I do is incorrect solely because of the fact that society is built around neurotypical expectations of people. I want to be able to live life in a way that is both functional and compatible to me, but if ABA continues to be an acceptable form of "treatment" in an attempt to "cure" autism by correcting behaviors based on a neurotypical framework of societal expectations, that may never happen. I'm 17 and a big part of why adulthood scares me is because social expectations are placed on me that I literally cannot meet because my brain works differently. What I'm saying is instead of advertising the use of a form of "therapy" that inherently treats autistic people's basic functionality like a problem, we as a society should be more accommodating. All of these videos feel like the equivalent of that one person everybody knows who thinks they know how to take care of a dog but instead regularly abuses them and is confident that they're doing things right without any second thoughts about it. I suppose this is what I get for wanting to listen to a Primus song. If anyone wants to learn how to raise their autistic child, there are plenty of autistic adults online to ask who understand their neurodivergence better than an ABA therapist.

And for the record, the whole concept of ABA doesn't sound good. The phrase "I am going to sign my kid up to therapy to help their autism" sounds a lot worse when you say "I am going to sign my kid up to therepy to help their homosexuality". The exact same tactics in gay conversion therapy are used in ABA.

And who gets to decide what behaviors are bad? I agree, aggression and self injury are problematic behaviors, but stimming or “automatic” behavior is harmless. What a neurotypical-centric society.

Into The Spectrum Actually, all stim behaviors are harmless unless they are aggressive or self-injurious. Stimming helps us cope in a Neurotypical world.

As an autistic person, these videos always seem extremely condescending. ABA is a fucking plague and these people aren't treating autistic children like people.

@@livingatypicallyactuallyau5514I know it’s been forever since you commented this but as someone with autism I have to agree here, in most cases stimming is great, as long as it isn’t hurting others or themselves it’s okay. I fell like it’s misunderstood that it is a normal thing to do for us, it’s comforting. It’s something neurotypicals don’t understand. For me it’s comforting and it helps me focus. When I don’t have something to stim with i fell weird, and I need something to stim with. I don’t know if I just never wanted to stim without something or if it’s that I was forcefully trained not to but i don’t fell good without it. Back on topic anyways when I don’t have something to stim with I fell uncomfortable and bored. I can’t focus as good and I want to leave or do something else. Just typing this I don’t have anything and my hands fell weird, it’s hard to describe it just fells weird. My issue with ABA isn’t in itself, ( side note I think we should get rid of the tearm aba into different categories because everything from calmly telling kids not to hurt themselves to tourture and electroshock therapy count as aba) my issue is with what they decide to fix. Even when it works very well like with me I still am not big on it. I have been trained to do things like eye contact even when not making it doesn’t hurt anyone and I can recognize that it is something I would rather not do but I have been trained to do it. I fell like ABA (still should be split up into different categories but also) should reevaluate what it counts as bad behaviors. Right now I know enough to recognize I want to get rid of some habits I’ve been taught at ABA but it is hard because it’s become second nature to me. I want to get rid of them because I fell like it’s taught me not do certain things I should do. It’s like sometimes I fell crushed and stressed and other times I just feel passive. It’s very rare I find that perfect equilibrium. Friday at school some kids were making fun of autistic people and I wanted to tell them not to but I just couldn’t get the courage, I don’t know now that I think about it if it’s ABA or something else but I fell like in everything I always am one extreme. When people do something that upsets me I either have a meltdown or I shrug and ignore the injustice. When I want something I can barley walk up to ask, I get stressed over the slowest things. I know it’s all not really related to ABA but I have a lot on my mind and yeah. God I hate middle school. God I hate puberty. God I hate it all. It all sucks so much. This is all unrelated to the point I’m sorry just ignore my vent.
