I literally live in the East Riding (kinda), and had no idea of the fact given at the start. It could be a fun one to know around here.

Whilst containing partial Truths, what is constantly missed about the British Empire, which differed totally from other Empires, was the real driving force for it, and the glue that held it together, was the English Common Law Constitution. Which did not Establish and uphold just a vulnerable Democracy. The Contract with the Crown and the People- drawn up by the Philosopher John Locke - was for the Establishment of the long favoured ideal of a Balanced Republic which every prior philosopher had failed to work out how to prevent the catastrophic Power Grab - so the genius John Locke came up with the fix of a - Power Denying Balanced Republic Under The Rule Of Law- because asLocke said - “It is Far Better To Be Ruled By Laws Rather Than People”. So every Colony was pretty much run itself by its own people, The Justice System was the Common LawConstitution, with everyone equal under the law, and there was an appeals process that started with the Governor and ended with the highest Court, which was Parliament itself . This is why one of the greatest admirers of the Common Law Constitution was the properly trained in Constitution and Law Mahatma Gandhi. Unfortunately, the American Colonists found they had inherited the impossible situation of being caught between a rock and a hard place, when Vehemently Anti Slavery King George and Queen Charlotte pointed out that Constitutionally Slavery had been illegal in Britain since the Middle Ages, and the Law Also applied to the Colonies, as did all of the Universal Rights, Liberties, and Freedoms. So things went a bit downhill from there. To be fair, given the impossible circumstances they found themselves in, America’s Founding Fathers did a cracking job of compensating, though their failures were due to - lacking two of the elements required to make a Balanced Republic - a long established Patriotic Aristocracy devoted to Duty and Service, and due to being Scapegoated as being responsible for the War of Independence, Nobody wanted to be King, so they were Synthesised via selected Senators (which collapsed when they were made elected, as it is impossible for two elected houses to work) and the Total disaster of the Power and Property Grab that is called Federalism, hence the National being Plunged into the appalling Civil War, so shortly following Independence. The Full American Constitution Continues to be the English Common Law Constitution, because Constitutions NEVER Go Away (and that reality may well be able to help fix all of the problems the USA is presently suffering from. As a side note, International Law is basically just a Copy and Paste of the English Common Law Constitution, and the USA so called Rules based order, is nothing more than a seriously bad and embarrassing Joke, attempted by Deranged Warmongering NEOCONS. 😡😡😡 Best wishes. Bob. PS. The Federalism Nonsense is whyfrom Day One,the European Union was Doomed to become a Disastrous Failure, followed by writing its own suicide note by turning interest rates negative in 2014. A rough calculation then revealed its inevitable Collapse was likely to start around 2025. Though already, every aspect of it is already severely bankrupt, and only trillions of dollars in support from the USA has been keeping it afloat since the 2019 REPO Crisis. The EU really Died in 2019, and is presently a dead man walking. Surprisingly, this reality is fully Grasped by President Macron of France, hence his panicking search for alternative options for France in recent years. 🤔 Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟❤️
HEY wait a minute the video you are reacting too horribly mispronounced Berkshire.. He said BERKshire and he should have said BARKshire NOBODY in the UK says BERKshire, except this *one* stupid guy who made the video you are reacting to, Its spelled Berkshire and pronounced BARKshur
Victoria Cross is like the Medal of Honor,, EQUAL,,
We have fought with America from WW1 onwards about 5 wars
Don’t worry England is weird😬 watch Gerald on Clarksons Farm, he’s from Oxfordshire about an hour an half from London where I’m from and I have no clue what he’s saying when he speaks!😳
At high tide Rutland is NOT England's smallest county, the Isle of Wight is. They are close enough in size that the Isle of Wight is larger than Rutland at low water.
"Ford" is a widely (if rarely) used term. It is on road signs where a road crosses a stream or small river without a bridge.
9:06 pretty sure that's Flash Gordon, an American creation I believe
I used to live in Whitwick (wit tick) close to Leicester (lester) not far from loughborough (luf buror ) They's places are older than the Downs Day Book Durby (Dar be)
17:06 everyone plays air guitar :)
Welsh is a lovely language and so much older than English. It’s worth learning a few words of for interest. They have been on this island much longer than us English, they have an ancient poetic tradition and consonants that change in mysterious ways. There is also good reason that they resisted Roman rule! The Welsh alphabet is visually similar to English but has different consonant and vowel sounds and no “X”. Have a look at some Welsh speakers on KZread, you’ll be fascinated.
Why cant you be Canadian. You have the cutest little laugh/giggle and smile ever. Your also very beautiful but since you say is Wales apart of England we cant be friends, sorry :) - Hey Roger
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Is multiple words smushed together, think long German words, and translates to: St Mary's Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel near a Rapid Whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio near the Red Cave.
Good effort. Here's another couple for you to try. Huddersfield - pronounced Huggersfield and also Southampton which is in fact pronounced Suthernipton.
Mach 2.2 is aorund 1500mph.
You fighters could never get low enough for missle lock agaqinst the Tornado. The only aircraft that flew lower was the British Buccaneer where they found 20ft m uch too low because it created dust trails so they climbed to 50ft!! That's LOW.
Panavia gave a shared cost design/build
Multi roll combat aircraft
If you think English place names are difficult to pronounce, wait until you go to Wales.
Late I know but here’s a good one for you Cholmondeston in Cheshire is pronounced Chumpston.
You need to watch this being sung at a Welsh rugby match. The passion is immense
Wales has the best anthem

For texture my grandfather Ralph Kell went ashore at Gallipoli as a Sergeant in the 13th Battalion of the first AlF (the Australian ANZACS) on the first day of the campaign. By the time of the evacuation of Allied troops eight months later he had been promoted in the field to lieutenant because most of the officers in his battalion had been killed. After that he served another two years in France where he was promoted to captain before being demobbed and returned to Australia in 1917.
25:30 WW2 tactics did not require 'trench warfare' because of the mechanisation of the movement of troops. With some exceptions eg. Tobruk a siege action between German, British and Australian troops in North Africa, the rapid deployment of fighting units was overwhelmingly by motor vehicle, or by better tactical employment of troops on foot.
5:40 The Royal Navy was pretty stretched at this time, but it was still the most powerful navy in the world. The most modern ships were being held in reserve in Scotland (Scapa Flow) in case the German High Seas Fleet broke out into the Atlantic. This did happen in 1916 resulting in the battle of Jutland. Other task groups of ships were deployed to the Pacific, lndian and Atlantic oceans to hunt down German commerce raiders and generally protect trade routes. The RN did have some modern ships at the Dardanelles however, for instance the battleship Queen Elizabeth that was virtually brand new.
Hello, I enjoy watching you on u tube x Am a Londoner England still living here now at 68 yrs old! This video is very funny but also historical information that hits the 🎯 🎯
In my experience, Worcestershire sauce is generally pronounced in England as “wuster sauce” (that’s to say like the town of Worcester, not the county).
clubs do it for intimidation
I remember seeing the queen in tears when she heard about 9/11.she was very upset.... having worked in the USA and made alot of friends it hit me too.. New York was like a second home to me..
Even the automated train announcement gets sydenham wrong - it shuold be sidnam as opposed to nearby Beckenham which is pronounced Beckenham though you can drop the h a bit if you like a quick Beck-en-um will suffice. But Syd-num is best left at two syllables.
Welsh place names are actually really easy once you learn what sounds the letters make, it is a diffent language entireley so a lot of the letters make a different sound. only ll and ch make sounds not present in english. Look up the pronunciation of the welsh alphabet and once you have learnt it even Llanfairpwllgwyngllgogerychwyrndrobllllantysiliogogogoch becomes fairly easy to pronounce, just break it up into sectons like so: Llan fair pwll gwyngll gogerych wyrn drobll llanty silio gogogoch
English place names are a nightmare. End of. As they said in the video, you've just got to learn them, one-by-one. Even when you've learned a rule (for example the -cester ones, Cirencester is ready and waiting to trip you up). On the subject of Worcestershire, you need to do a little more pruning. Forget that first R is even there. It's simply woos-ter-shur. Then we have the nice-and-straight-forward Manchester. Prefix that with "God" and you have a real headache! I'm ashamed to admit that I've only heard of it in recent years, and it's pronunciation was explained as "Gumster." However, I think I've heard/read something else that casts doubt on that. Hopefully someone can explain that to me!
My fiancé is from a nearby village called Aveton Gifford. Some locals pronounce it 2 or 3 ways. There's a posh way and a common way to pronounce it. Auton Gifford posh way. Aveton jifford Common way. Some people mix the two.
My late grandparents lived near Alnwick.
I'm from South Devon, in the UK. In the south of the county of Devon.
Gloucester is pronounced Gloss-ter. Not using the ou sound. Sorry. It's confusing.
Police officers we don't have sheriffs in the UK for law enforcement.
I dunno, when a place named Arkansas is pronounced arkensaw, can't say I've much sympathy 😂
So Llanfairpwllgwyngyll is a train station with not alot around it apart from a small village the locals just say LlanfairPG
It is straightforward. Britain came from the Roman name, England came about to describe the southerly part of Britain controlled by the Anglo Saxons and the North rules by Vikings was called the danelaw. When the Vikings left England became used for those parts not celtic. So there was England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and by some Cornwall. England occupied Wales and Wales became a principality of the Kingdom of England though the term Britain started to be used again as well. When England and Scotland signed the Act of Union in 1707 the Name changed to Great Britain. When the Republic of Ireland gained Independence, the Northern part of Ireland who wanted to remain part of Britain were formally integrated as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Geographic term British Isles cover Great Britain and the island of Ireland
You thing Britain is bad,try Ireland. Try pronouncing names like COBH,(COVE), LEAP,(LEPP),KILTIMAGH,(KILTIMOCK),LEIGHLINSTOWN,(LOCKLINSTOWN),SCEACH,(SCOCK),etc
Because of the many languages that English has evolved from borrowed from etc, the Great Vowel Shift, and printing and so spelling being fixed over a period of at least a 100 years during this .... English spelling is a mess e.g. so -ough can be pronounced : oh, ow, oo, aw, ah-ff, uh-ff, or uh-pp Though, bough, through, thought, cough, enough, hiccough. Now imagine this with placenames, in a different language and people saying them quickly over a few hundred years ....
It must be difficult for an American as inherently they are incapable of speaking the English Language let alone spell correctly
In English it is "Land of our Fathers"
The Celts were the British equivalent of the Native Americans or the Australian Aborigines or the Māoris of New Zealand - the modern day Welsh are the descendants of the Celts - the true English were the Picts, who waged war against the Scots, whose descendants are the modern Scots!
