this is my first pro ball (bought half off via discount). it's night and day better than the $30 balls, and is really enjoyable to dribble with and ping about. that said, still way too expensive unless you really don't mind the price and are going to use it often. I hear these balls should last much longer. hoping that's true

Every world cup has its own ball. Every maker claims revolutionary design improvements and various magical qualities. Players will complain it is too light and uncontrollable. It's a tradition.

2010 probably had the weirdest ball, it gave us some crazy goals

Official match balls are 100+ they have all the engineering he mentioned, standard balls are usually 20-30 with the same aesthetic but simpler engineering

The pro football is £130 ($158) but you could buy a league ball (training & matches) for £30 ($36) ... you could pick up a decent football from as little as £10 ($12) or less in most sports shops/online ... interesting video SoGal, as you say, it's not something most people think about ... Yes you can feel a ball through your feet, and all league's use a different ball however there is some standard specs that can't be changed like weight and size

Having been a goalkeeper and a defender in my youth` I can safely say yes ... you can feel the difference between a " Pro " ball and a " cheap " ball .... the latter holds more water when it rains and it feels a little heavier to handle with your foot or hands, the newer balls ( After 1995 ) .. feel lighter and much easier to play with in all conditions and you can chip or curl the ball with great ease.

The premier league has a set ball design and changes it every year now and have done for over a decade. Before they changed it every 2-5 years. They evolve with technology and science. the balls in the 50's and 60's were so different and have come so far since then. You can feel it when you kick the ball, more in the way you are able to do what you intended with it, if putting spin on it for instance, these modern balls are easier to do that with. @@jazzx251 Yeah! have heard stories from family who used to play around that time. Aswell as the heavy wet leather.. heading the stitching could cut your forehead too! I welcome new technology to footballs, I do think changing them every year is a bit of a money maker without significant change though. they should go back to every 2 or 3 years at least.

Grip is probably a lot to do with dribbling - maintaining close control, instead of it slipping away. Also hitting it with your foot - slippery balls will fly off in random directions more often (so to speak).

The versions you typically buy as standard in a high street stores in the West are made in China. Generally for £8 / €10 / $12 . As apposed to the official World Cup equivalent via Adidas obviously being made in main~land German Manufacturing centres. Clearly going to be a massive price differential. But, you pay for Quality / Research at the end of the Day. So there's that. But fastenating video as usual. 👍

Regarding Adidas - I expect the US pronunciation is incorrect. Adidas and Puma were two German brands that came from 2 German brothers that fell out and created their own shoe brands.

I love the way the chap on the video says how "soft" this new ball feels. I haven't seen one or experienced one yet but if is is made ostensibly from the same plastic compound it won't feel soft to me. All footballs feel like kicking a sphere of concrete compared to 40 or so years ago to me. We used to play mainly in the summer when there was no school with leather/faux-leather footballs which felt a joy to kick and almost moulded around your foot as you kicked them.

Hello SoGal and Roger. You got the idea right from golf balls and how basketball feels. When you learn as a small kid you can compensate for how the ball "feels". Unfortunately for my generation the heavy leather balls were like lead when wet, as in UK winter season. When kicking around in the street the kids also had platform shoes in the 70s. They were great for belting the heavy ball, but you can correlate it with the skill shortage in the years after 1970. See "Madness" video "Baggy Trousers" as evidence. Growing up in Yorkshire you get to understand about texture affecting movement from cricket, with one roughened and one shined side to the ball. The Aussies fell foul of this not long back by roughening the ball deliberately to get extra swing in the air.

It's not that much for a proper engineered match ball. I was the treasurer of a rugby club back in the 2000's. Back then a proper match quality ball (properly balanced etc) was around £70. And rugby balls are much simpler.

All round the world there will be kids nagging their parents (every year) for a new football, New Home kit for their team, new Away kit, new 3rd kit, new country kit etc etc. Football is just a money making business. Fun Fact All MLB baseball are made in Costa Rica.

The 140€ ball is more for tournaments and it is for grass, or synthetic grass. The replica is cheaper and it is for any surface, beware the desinf. Will go away with use.

Footballs (good ones) should generally be costing £50 or less.

Panel design and shape on footballs has evolved a lot but I think it is a mistake here to have non matching panels in both design and shape. The price of this football will be impacted in part by the quality of the materials and the fact that it will be officially licensed.

yes - and it sometimes leads to very poor games in the early round The Jubilani was supposed to make the ball move unpredictably in the air - making it more difficult for goalkeepers, hence more goals scored In reality, the very best players were booting it over the bar time and again - because it was too light, and the 'unpredictability' also affected the, otherwise lethal, strikers who thought they knew where it was going, but then it would have other ideas during flight.
