BassCamp

Fun and effective bass lessons that'll take your playing to PRO level!

My fellow bassists - Charles Berthoud here. Over the last 20 years, I've played bass on more than 2000 songs, 500 live performances and built a social media community with over 2 million followers.

But it took me 20 YEARS.

I've loved every step of the journey but looking back, I could have learned this instrument much more quickly, without diminishing the quality of my playing.

So I've made it my mission to teach you how to play this beautiful instrument and save you years of work. In a fun and musical way, I'll condense tens of thousands of hours of experience into bite-size chunks that will illuminate the path towards bass mastery.

Start your journey today at BassCamp!

I respect Charles for his abilities, but does he have to be so gay?

I'd say any bassist or musician or music lover thinks of the Flea rather than the insect.

"Talent" is a lie, it's a word created by people who think that an individual who is better than them is not better because of the time and practice they put into a certain subject. But because they have natural born skill. Not only is that stupid for an infant to somehow develop an abiy in slapping bass for example. But it's rude to the people who actually spend time practicing their art. So if you say that Charles is good at what he does because he was born with it, than maybe you should practice being less pathetic.

The more I watched Charles, the more I wanted to get a Bass to start learning. But how likely and realistically could I play like this eventually, and after how long? 🥲 😂

I'd love to see what Charles and a Drummer and an SM58 can do live no overdubs. I'm sure it'd be a bit more sparse than his channel pieces, but I think it'd still be awesome.

I always enjoy your videos. When you were talking about hitting the root notes at the beginning instead of a 3rd, I really appreciated your comment about changing the energy of the song "if you don't know what you're doing". That's what I love about the bass, tremendous power to change the feel of a song. During a performance, I won't mess around much. During rehearsal, I experiment all the time, seeing what feels good, what works and what doesn't. Loads of fun!

Fantastic vid! Though I’m a classically trained percussionist, I’ve always noodled around on bass. And in just the last couple of years I’ve really gained a lot of facility. This vid was very helpful in confirming my approach, but also given me a lot on which I can chew!
