Jokingly we would call this "Spot The Standby Boat Weather" and literally it sometimes was so rough that the standby boat would disappear from view apart from the top of their masts such was the size of the waves. I used to feel for the guys working ships in this weather as on a semi sub motion is much reduced.

I've had a few experiences on the North Sea. Back in 2009 I spent 3 weeks in Iceland, 2 weeks in the Faroe Islands, and another week in Iceland. ••• My first taste of the North Sea was an overnight 15h ride on a Smyril ship. I tried going down into my assigned cabin to get some sleep. Worst idea I could've had. 😂 ••• From that point on, I knew I'm someone who needs to not be surrounded by walls. I need to keep my awareness of the ship's motion relative to the sea and the horizon. If I can just see out a window, I'm chill. Otherwise, I'm not having fun. 😂 ••• Once I'd learned that, the rest of the ship and boat trips were 100% chill. ••• In the Faroes, I took a ride on a smaller fishing vessel that doubled as a shuttle between Hvannasund and the small islands of Svínoy and Fugloy. We hit some pretty rough patches, another tourist was almost thrown overboard by a sudden and pretty violent roll to starboard. She barely held on to the railings. I was able to get to her quickly to make sure she was okay. She had that empty stare in her eyes, she had been seriously scared!
