What type of vessel u on? Mostly every ship I worked on was 300' and under. Once we got caught in a hurricane in-between west Africa and Eastern Caribbean. At the time winds were 95mph with 20' and bigger waves. At the time I was on the USNS Pathfinder or Hayes I think. Hard to remember back to 2006. I had just finished serving 17 years in the army and thought I would try out the merchant navy. I really enjoyed it. Had I known about merchant marines when I was younger I may have went that direction instead of the army.

1:59 BLOODY HELL. This is the best big swell footage I’ve seen on KZread. The only thing missing is the noise. You go up up up up, until all you can see is sky. You crest the wave, then begin to plummet bow first-and there’s a bone rattling, wet THUNK as the bow smacks into the trough. From there, it looks certain the next wave will break over the vessel- but instead you’re thrust into the sky on the next swell. All the while the boat creaks and shudders and moans, the wind howls, and the wave sounds are relentless. It’s almost impossible to capture the experience on film. This clip comes closer than any other I’ve seen.

Decent sized vessel and an experienced crew, wasn’t in any real danger. The worst part is the corkscrewing. Up and down and side to side seemingly all at the same time. Tea and toast for dinner. And probably breakfast the next day. Despite the comments, your personal south end evacuation isn’t an issue, it’s all coming north. Headache, nausea, disorientation. Good story when you’re back home though.

Ah yes, the north sea. Our cook thought he was being funny, giving us 'storm soup' every time the waves were more than 10m. It's a pain in the ass to eat soup in waves like that, let me tell you.

Common sense says water is a liquid, but when you're facing a wall of water, it looks pretty darn SOLID! Still, it's mesmerizing to watch ... from the safety of my living room sofa!!! But one thing above all that makes this footage so compelling is the near silence: no unnecessary conversation, no dramatic music, just the endless creaking of the ship under the strain of the waves. Wow.😺💕🐾

We are at sea at the moment but due home in a free days. Unfortunately there were no storms to film this time round but we’ll see what January brings. I’ve been told that I cannot make any more Month at Sea videos so I’m thinking of a few new angles. If you’ve seen my last video you will have noticed that it was introduced by a little girl. I’m going to try and teach her to splice so that she can do some tutorials 😂😂 Watch this space. A Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
My limited experience of North Sea weather tells me that it has the power to shrink the biggest ship to the size of a cork when it all kicks off.
