Sol in the story is very complex, but in terms of how he actually carries himself he's pretty simple. He tends to be pretty grumpy but not always immediately annoyed by people around him, even if his words might seem to suggest he is. His songs lyrics are super duper punk. By this point in the story Sol has fought past many of the demons of his past and things are looking up. His song is about living how he wants, and just live and let live, but don't EVER let anybody get away with seriously wronging you. People love to describe his song as being the sound of being in a bar fight, and you're winning, and that makes sense for Sol on a lot of levels, he loves hanging out in bars! If I remember correctly, not only is Sol the main character (him and Ky are both the protagonists equally, but if you had to pick one of them it would be Sol), but he's also Daisuke Ishiwataris favorite character in the game. Whenever there's footage of him playing the game he's using Sol, and he even voices Sol in the older games, including the ones you most likely played. Sol is a massive Queen reference. He holds his sword like how Freddy Mercury held his microphone, his real name, Frederick Bulsara, is a reference to Freddy Mercury's real name, Sol even canonically owns a Queen Vinyl. The name "Sol Badguy" is inspired by the album Mr. Badguy. The old Sol theme that you are thinking of is called Keep Yourself Alive btw!

You'd like some context? Sigh has essentially always been connected to the black metal scene, and had record label ties across the world from Japan to Deathlike Silence Productions in Norway in the early 90s (a major hotspot for black metal). But Sigh have always been different! A lot of artists and bands soon grew tired of repeating early 90s formulas and went in all sort of directions. Where I feel Sigh differs is that although they can go genre-jumping, or just be really weird, they still keep the 70s and 80s metal alive in their music. Old school, but without boundaries. Massive respect for this band.

At this point Sol and Ky are more like brothers than anything. Ky even had him raise his kid. So they are pretty much freindly rivals at this point. Although Guilty Gear's story is weird.

Ky and Sol hate each other's guts but have to work together a lot since their goals often align. Sol is also Ky's father in law which is something they only learned after the fact and caused them incredible amounts of psychic damage when they realized it.

X is my favorite game of all time! There are many valid critiques, things like the main story, the lack of volume or text settings, the lackluster tutorials, the demanding material costs of level XX augments... But the things that really make this game for me are the fast-paced combat, the dense open-world, the deep side quests, the lore and world building, the mech and enemy design, and of course, the music! I often hear people say that X has the weakest OST in the series, but those people ALWAYS pin the blame solely on NLA Day/Night. The rest of the OST is filled with gems, you just have look for them. It can be hard to find certain songs because of their naming conventions. Not just the fact that a ton of it is gibberish, but that a bunch of songs are lumped into the same song title as different sections. But things like No.EX01, the many iterations of CODENAMEZ ('In the Forest X→Z' being my preferred), literally all of the other area themes, raTEoREkiSImeAra, aBOreSSs, The Key We've Lost, Melancholia, z29, z37 part 2, Uncontrollable, z15, z5, 'So nah, so fern', Wir Fliegen, Your Voice, UN↑口and巨DIE part 2, G-LOW-S→F.S.K.O part 1, and KAKU-WEST*→▲★★KAI part 1 are bangers! Outside of those, the OST even has the scariest songs in the series, with z13 and z30. Heck, many people like to make fun of it, but I actually really love the cheesiness of Black Tar. I know some readers unfamiliar with the game may have clocked out due to the absurd song names (and I even shortened the z[number] tracks), but there's some amazing stuff in there! Don't sleep on X! Also, not relevant to X, but it's worth noting that Mitsuda only contributed to XC1 with the credits theme, Beyond the Sky. The game's director (Tetsuya Takahashi) begged for him to compose for the game, but Mitsuda refused several times because, quote, "I felt that the project didn't need me because its fascinating atmosphere and world were already complete." "I always try to consider what kind of 'music' and 'sound' the game wants and whether it really needs my 'color.'" But he was eventually convinced because his good friend Takahashi said, "... the series only makes sense if we close Xenoblade Chronicles with your music!" Mitsuda was also resistant to being brought back for XC2, but he was again convinced otherwise, and he joined as a full-on composer instead of just having a single song cameo. Of course, he's stuck around ever since. XC1 was actually composed primarily by Manami Kiyota (50 composing credits), followed by three composers who went by ACE+ (29 credits), and another composer with a similar level of fame as Mitsuda, Yoko Shimomura (11 credits [you'll know her for Street Fighter 2, Kingdom Hearts, Super Mario RPG, Mario & Luigi, and more]). Shimomura wouldn't return for any future Xenoblade games though. XC2 would of course give Mitsuda a more prevalent role (24 credits), but ACE would lead the charge (41 credits). The lack of a + was because the former + was composing separately from the other two. But he was still present as a composer for this game! Meet my favorite Xenoblade composer, Kenji Hiramatsu (27 credits)! Kiyota would take more of a back seat for this entry, however (14 credits). Miriam Abounnasr would also be brought on as an arranger (6) for tracks composed by Mitsuda. Keep her in mind. XC3! This is actually the game that Mitsuda had the largest role in (41 credits), with the other three having pretty even spreads: Kiyota (27), ACE (27), and Hiramatsu (28). Additionally, we have two new composers joining the roster! Abounassr got an opportunity to compose (3 credits), with her getting more in the DLC (4 credits, though all technically the same song)! Additionally, Yutaka Kunigo would make his debut (2 credits)! And boy, did these two put out some good songs. Most notably, Abounassr did the 'Black Mountains' and Kunigo did 'Ultimate Enemy,' both VERY highly regarded tracks. Anyways, if you somehow couldn't tell, Xenoblade is one of my favorite game franchises, so I'd love to see more reactions/analysis on their OSTs! It's been a while since your last one!

Nice ear catching that bit of Sol's classic theme! (That one's called "Keep Yourself Alive") Sol Badguy is actually a very popular character, and has probably the most developed and layered story in the entire cast, one that's reflective of the series' themes as a whole (he IS the main character after all) Not gonna go into spoilers toooo much, but here's an overview (mostly focusing on stuff the first game tells us) Sol is first presented to us as a lone bounty hunter who specifically focuses on killing Gears above all other targets. His background wasn't really known to people, and in fact, Sol himself hated being asked about it. He's gruff, but free-spirited, and doesn't like to play by the rules. Towards the end of the Crusades (war between humans and Gears) Sol's skills got the attention of the Holy Order (human army) and he was recruited as one of their knights. At the same time, Ky was also a knight of the Order, despite still being a child (14-15-ish). Ky was considered a prodigy, and due to his skills, was actually the captain of the squad Sol was in. But while Ky was all about rules and working together, Sol hated working with others and tended to step outta line. Ky attempted to set him straight through a duel, but ended up losing to Sol. And Ky could tell Sol wasn't even using hus full power. It's from these events that their rivalry starts to form- Ky wanting to face Sol in honorable combat to get through to him, and Sol wanting none of that, treating Ky like a kid (which, to be fair, Ky was) Eventually Sol decides this whole fighting alongside others in the Holy Order thing isn't working out for him, so he instead decides to desert, but not before stealing one of their treasured magic swords. Ky attempts to stop the theft but is bested by Sol again. The actual games don't start until a couple years later, after the war. Sol still lives a lone life as a bounty hunter, while Ky, now a young adult, tries to adjust to the new world. Throughout the main plot of the Guilty Gear series, the relationship with Ky is a pretty notable one for Sol- he treats Ky like a nuisance, but really all Ky really wants is to connect and understand one another. It takes a while for us to get at it, but it's evident that Sol has experienced great loss in the past, and as such has grown bitter and unable to let himself just, live and be with other people. And a big part of his journey is him finally forging new bonds again and healing from the past.

Check out either "Strange Sunset"from Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha, "Rising Dragon" from the same game, "Green Shower" from Street Fighter Ex2 Plus, or "Matador" from Street Fighter Ex 3. The ex series is kinda forgotten but it genuinely has the best soundtracks out of any Fighting Game series out there. Ex Alpha Plus being the best.

You should listen to The Square's "Sunnyside Cruise" or "Night Dreamer" for an intro to them. Also, you should listen to TRIX - 敦煌 (Dunhuang), or 毛根ファンク (Hair Root Funk), or Impact Hair Root Funk. I love the synth part in hair root funk, it's so cool! There another band like Casiopea and T-Square. They have one of Casiopea's ex drummers from the 90s, Noriaki Kumagai, who was with them for a short time while their drummer Akira Jimbo in this video went solo with Tetsuo Sakurai, the original bassist who has now been replaced by Yoshihiro Naruse in this video and still with them now. Mitsuru Sutoh, the bass player with the white bass from t square is also in TRIX.

This performance of Tropic Birds is from the the gig at Yokohama Baseball Stadium in 1981 where Takanaka shared the bill with Santana - the whole concert is available on KZread and is superb! The quality of sound you mention, and pictures too, may be accounted for by the fact that this was a concert sponsored by Pioneer and must surely have been broadcast on Japanese TV on account of the multitude of ads for their latest Hi-Fi systems that are included in the YT posting. FYI, Takanaka and Carlos performed together in the Finale backed by their combined bands with Brilliant versions of Europa and Ready to fly. Takanaka has made dozens of albums over the years , all worth listening to although I would particularly recommend his earlier work. However, I would urge you to check out some of the myriad live performances on offer on YT. Live music is always the best in my opinion and Takanaka proves my point with his live playing continually outstripping the excellent studio versions of his work. I've been a Santana fan since 1969 (Woodstock), even interviewed him for the BBC and while working for them I was given a copy of the LP "Takanaka" (his second )in 1977 in the hope that I might play something from it on my radio show. In fact I played several tracks over succeeding nights and must therefore be one of possibly only a handful of DJs outside of Japan to give the man air time!! Takanaka does not release albums outside of Japan and rarely, if ever performs anywhere else. As a result, the entire world knows the name of Carlos Santana but outside the Land of the Rising Sun few are aware of the man I consider "Japan's Best Kept Secret". I thoroughly enjoyed this reaction which is helping to spread the word, I look forward to more of the same. Your new subscriber in the UK.

Although Babymetal do have a few songs about battle, it's usually being used a metaphor for other forms of struggle or inner conflict. If there is one continuous thread that runs through the majority of Babymetal's lyrics, it's the idea of perseverance through hardship and resilience. Even so, they also have songs about girl power (Megitsune), eating chocolate (Gimme Chocolate), being late for school (Doki Doki Morning), playing hide and seek with a monster (Catch Me If You Can), an anti-bullying song (Ijime Dame Zettai), and all kinds of other things. By pure coincidence, you have ended up listening to most of the songs that speak very directly about battle.

Their latest album was a concept album, so you might find several songs battle themed, even if the battle is a representation of something else. Songs like Metal Kingdom really focus on it. In their 3 previous albums, I can't think of any other song about battle, if not maybe battle again youself in Karate and battle agains bullies in Ijime, Dame, Zettai The others cnan have many different meanings: starting from wanting to eat chocolate, to party summer song, to getting ready to go to school, to wanting to stay up late with friends, etc...

You're going to have a fun journey! One thing I love about Babymetal that you're discovering is their range of moods and styles. They were founded on kawaii metal, deliberately over the top cutesey dancing and acting on top of truly heavy death metal. But as you see, partially due to them growing up, they can put on a very serious intense side which to me, adds even more weight and excitement to the kawaii mode times. They all were VERY good at being comfortable on stage at such a young age, now they're legit superstar status in my opinion!

Su-metal wrote these lyrics for this song. They do sing about combat a lot, their song Road of Resistance is about their fight to carve out a place for themselves in the metal industry, or I should say inspired by their fight; it's abstracted to encourage anyone to follow their own pathless path. . Divine Attack seems to revisit that theme. They also sing about chocolate. What I find interesting about their themes is the fight is never won or lost, it always goes on.

I do think the intros stand out as their own work of art, I could listen to whole album of just that. You mention Sabaton, Joakim Brodan did a feature on a Babymetal song back in 2019, " Oh Majinai" is one of their lighter songs and has vibes of eastern European folk and a dash of Celtic, fun little tune.

Great reaction! Thank you very much for your appreciation of Su-Metal´s lyrics and the prowess of the Kami Band! The lyrics aren´t about bloody battles in wars like Iron Maiden´s songs, but battles within life itself. A little bit like "Road of Resistance", but still different. To bring in some variety you could try a not-so-serious song of them. There is a live performance at the PIA Arena in 2023 available... - Iine! It is a very early song, released in March 2012, and they didn´t perform it for a loooong time, after Yuimetal´s departure. If you dare to try it, prepare for a wild ride😉 The hand sign is a BABYMETAL thing, right. They mistook the maloik sign (Devil´s hand) for the fox in shadow play during their very (VERY!) early days, and they kept it. Because it´s unique and cool 😄 And you got it right, Su-Metal is the main vocalist. She is the "Queen" 😉 Good performer, very good dancer and outstanding vocalist. She always wears a single ponytail, since around 2012. There are some very early performances where she wears pigtails. Moametal is the one with the sidewards twin tails (I believe this is called "pigtails", too, right?), and she is the smolest 😉 of the three. She has dimples when she smiles. Very easy to recognize 😉 Momometal is the tallest of the three, and she wears double ponytails. She has rather big eyes and smiles A LOT 😊You will encounter her at some point in time, where she is wearing double buns. That was at the time when she was an "Avenger", a backup dancer to fill in Yuimetal´s (former member) empty spot. "Avengers" just danced, but didn´t sing. There are two other "Avengers" made up in the same style, and between all three of them ONE was "chosen" to fill in the third spot at a certain performance, so it´s sometimes quite hard to distinguish between them if you watch a compilation of different performances. The other two "Avengers" were Riho Sayashi and Kano Fujihira.

Great reaction. When they first heard the demo tape Su-metal liked this song so much - it reminded her of 'Road of Resistance', one of her personal favourites. She said she wanted to write the lyrics ... and that happened, so Su-metal has her first official writing credit. All your questions were already answered in many of the comments below - @Ganimal83 is one that has provided a good and comprehensive response for you. Unlike Sabaton and some Iron Maiden songs, any combat or war references in BABYMETAL songs are not to be taken literally. BABYMETAL will be talking about fighting your own inner demons, getting up and moving forward even when life has knocked you down, fighting through the undergrowth and past obstacles to forge you own path to a better future. Even when BABYMETAL sing about bubblegum it is special bubblegum that can take you wherever you want, the only limits are your imagination and your dreams ... it is "a mint flavoured time machine", step on board and see where your dreams can take you. (This song is 'Awadama Fever'). However, they do have songs about waking up late and rushing to get ready for school, having midnight feasts with their friends and deciding between eating sweets or dried squid arms, magic islands forbidden to adults at the risk of dancing in a happy mosh for ever, coming of age, playing hide & seek with an ogre, tricking parents to buy them all the shiny and delicious things .... I could go on (no seriously, I could, it is taking a lot of self control to stop😁😜).

@@faceplantor5647 Yes! I really hope she writes more of their songs! I'm also hoping that Moa and Momo have their own songs together like how Moa and Yui were Black Babymetal together. I'm just not sure what name they could go by.

Thanks for this reaction. While they talk about battles, I do think they mean: personal battles and personal improvements and working together to reach a common goal. Obviously no official interpretation exists, but these are common themes for Babymetal. Kami band might not be an official part of Babymetal, they are part of team Babymetal who work hard to deliver these big shows or more stripped down shows around the world. The guys are session musicians and session musicians are involved in the recordings of the albums, so sometimes it's them and sometimes it's other session musicians, who ever is the most available and most suitable.
