Ol' Man Ronin

Ol' Man Ronin

Greetings! I'm Ol' Man Ronin and welcome to my motorcycle entertainment page! I have been riding shifting motorcycles since i was 6 years old. My first was a Rupp 100, followed by a few dirt bikes then at 14, I got my first Street Bike, a 1966 XLCH Sportster. Since then I've always had bikes.

I have been called Ohio's "Unofficial" Motorcycle Ambassador because of my promotion of the lifestyle over the 50 years I've been riding. I love Ohio roads, history and scenery. We have the unique privilege as Ohioans of having some of the best motorcycle roads in the country. The twisty, curvy roads that are so prevalent in the eastern half of the state, makes for a fantastic motorcycle destination. No wonder the AMA (American Motorcycle Association) makes it's home here in the Buckeye State!

I sincerely hope you enjoy this Channel and look forward to reading your comments on my videos! Until then, Ride Safe Everyone and Keep'er on Two Wheels!

I'm looking at both. I think that a set of bar risers on the W would help, so that would be a cheap way of increasing comfort. The seat on the W is way more comfortable and a seat change on the RE would be a much bigger expense. My main concern is dealer availability. Where I live the closest RE dealer is over 200 miles away and that is pretty much a deal breaker. Kawasaki dealers are all over the place. One advantage is the W has tubeless tires and an available optional center stand.

I got a free screen that comes fitted to the standard versys and it totally transforms how the bike feels, much lower and narrower that our screens fitted to the S & SE models. Still don't get wind blast as such but much more airflow and as I say the bike feels much smaller & lighter.

Excellent video .. today you just helped me make my decision for the Himalayan... I live on roads with gravel, sand and washboard ripples... I had concerns about the KLR being top heavy and that shimmy shimmy shake shake... Thank you for this video.

Then Himalayan is a ground breaking iconic bike and from the start I immediately fell in love with its sheer radical practical " Willys Jeep on two wheels" design and I have always admired its rugged no nonsense looks, but folks, please bear in mind that the Scram is not a posers version of the same fine design either. Checkout the MAD crew from Australia who have made a short KZread series about riding the Himalayas on 4 Scrams and found them to be highly effective and to be losing nothing to the Himalayan. Remember folks, the entire reason why Royal Enfield still exists today is because the 1950's Indian Army adopted the 350 Bullet with a 19 inch front wheel as the perfect bike to be patrolling some of the most inhospitable mountain "roads" on Earth. I recall the MAD Ozzie Team hit well over 15000 feet and the little wonders took it all in their stride whilst being 32 pounds lighter than the Himalayan. I personally love them both equally, the Himalayan for its practicality, and the Scram for its gorgeous stripped down back to basics style (dare I say 2023 version of the original Bullet?'), so for different reasons, a bit like children.

You sure make it look easy!!!! Much appreciate detailing which wrench to use at each assembly point - that is BRILLIANT!!! I've watched a couple vids on this and I'm going to depart from the sequence in the instructions. Seems like folks attach the carrier to their vehicle and then load their bike up on it and THEN adjust the wheel cradles. In my vast world of ignorance and profound laziness I believe I have an easier way to do this assembly. I am going to roll my bike into the wheel channel while it is not attached to anything and while still on the ground. THEN I'll adjust/attach the cradles so they're perfectly spaced and centered. Once that is done, then continue on with the assembly. I have a Honda XR650L so it's not too hefty, but I am lazy!!!!

15 km short of 60 000 mine got smashed at a crossroads. But I'll spend whatever it needs to get it fixed, that's how much I love it. (even the tricky agricultural gear box with it's many false neutrals). Found a spare one sold for parts, to share with a friend who owns the same model, 2013 euro3. A pity they will soon be banned from the LEZ where I live, so I just bought a barn in the Ardennes for it's old days.

For my first bike I wanted something not too powerful and also with a low seat height. I'm new and I'm a short man (only 164cm or around 5'4"-5'5" I think) so this bike was my choice. Going to get mine next week!

i droped my 2024 Adventure ABS the minute I touched mud and bent handle bar with Barkbusters. I bought the Dunlop Trailmission and a set of Tusk Adventure tires and I think I will install the Tusks first. After 3 months with my KLR, I think I made the wrong choice of bike... too top heavy and too many things to replace (footpeg, crash bars, skid plate, shift lever, etc...), i should probably have gotten a KTM 350 EXC-F. In it's current condition with original tires, I don't trust my KLR until I change the OEM tires. I do mostly gravel roads and the occasional trail, but that bike is too heavy and ackward to go in trails.

RIP man. Miss you videos and sometimes I come back to watch the oldies. I’m also in Ohio and you were definitely one of the main people to persuade me to check out the RE brand in general. I bought a Himalayan as my 2nd bike (still a newer rider) and I got it at Throttle Company (excellent people). I read through all of these comments and it’s amazing how much you meant to so many people. These videos will keep your legacy going and I look forward to referring back to them for many years to come. Also, you motivate me to finally start making my own videos and sharing my stories on KZread. So thank you!

For those who doubt of the mecanical qualities of Royal Enfield modern bikes and like calm and beautiful landscape videos, this guy www.youtube.com/@LeNezdansleMoteur has more than 100'000 km on his Himalayan, allways with all the video equipment of a youtuber in south of France. 😉

I really want a Royal Enfield classic 350 but my buddies keep saying it is too small for me. I'm 6'2' and 285. I have a kawasaki versys 1000 and a Kawasaki Drifter 1500. I want the enfield for back road riding. I'm 76 yrs old and might just down size my bikes. I don't have any trouble handling the weight of the two that I have but I just would like a smaller bike.

Good informative video, I have a 68 KO CT90, has tranny problems. There are a lot of videos about CT-90's that haven't run in 20 years, where, with a little fiddling, a young guy, with few skills and wrong tools, gets his running perfectly, without splitting the cases, etc. Asking prices here in SoCal are around $1000 for a non-running CT90, and a lot more for a complete "perfect" running one with clear title. There's a lot of hype and nostalgia at work, and trying to get something for nothing, then comes desire to "hot rod" them.

I have a gen 2. I only put 4 gallons of gas in for my sunday 150 mile ride. That removes 12 lbs of top end weight. Lowering links drop center of gravity 2 inches. The result is a klr that is more like a standard. If you are tall, you end up with a bike that fits you, and it does not feel much different than a classic triumph. Oh, did I mention it is waay smoother?
