Based on the scene at the end of the age of stars ending, I’m thinking that Ranni’s divine gate to ascend to godhood is the moon. It’s been right there in the cutscene all this time but we never knew it was a gateway until now comparing it to how marika and miquella used the divine gateway.

I thought Marika was a Numen and from a land outside The Lands Between. This place looks to have been part of TLB until Marika sealed it away. Could it be that this village was where she landed and first settled when she came to TLB and not where she was actually born?

Marika's rune item description says she personally bestows it and it blinds others (in short). The living jars shard states the flesh hardens after death. The ghost who says they don't want to be put into a jar is actually a hornsent (look up close at their head). My unhinged theory is that Marika was helping the hornsent and putting her own people into jars to help them build the gate of divinity. The Enir Ilim had the foundation of those bodies as well. Messmer found out and Marika bestowed her rune to him (his eye) to blind him as well to her actions. He knew her original sin which was genocide against her own people and betrayed the hornsent by sending him to wage war against him. It's an unhinged theory, but jfc it seems plausible imo.

The story will always leave people feeling flat in so far as the story maintains the level of nihilism that it's had from the start. All the characters are tragic representations of good intentioned people struggling to bring something good into a world where no good is lasting or universal. It's a reflection of the hopelessness and division of our present day and age...an age of fracture indeed. Maybe that's why the story finds resonance within us without solving anything or providing any hope.

Note that during the boss fight with Allmind, Ayre begins saying something like, "Raven, Allmind's real plan, it's-" before being cut off, heavily implying that Allmind isn't simply planning on releasing the Coral. Also note that when we kill V.III, he tells us that we have no idea what we're fighting for and heavily implying that Allmind's plan involves the eradication of humanity as we know it. Personally, I got the feeling that Allmind's plan was something similar to SEELE in NGE and meld all of humanity into one consciousness through the coral.

I think the biggest part of the ending scene is when he says "Brother" because technically Miquella has 3 brothers and all of them end up dead behind Miquella's schemes and bewitching. The Night of the Black Knives may of been put into motion by Miquella to begin with through Ranni to get Godwyn's soul into the Shadow Realm... I say this, because Ranni ends up also divesting herself of her flesh; her entire quest line feels like a race against time narratively... So I think Ranni betrayed Miquella or at least tried to free Godwyn's soul from being bewitched. If you look at Castle Sol, you can meet a bunch of ghost NPCs left behind by Miquella who are clearly bewitched as you see your party is in the DLC, this gives me the notion that they are bewitched, however it would be interesting to see if their dialogue changes once Miquella's rune shatters. If Miquella bewitching can last beyond death, I would theorize it was actually him who removed the Rune of Death, not Merika and possibly even bewitched Merika to do so. Its difficult because we find a motive for Merika to shatter the ring, but I think Miquella's motive is far more sinister because once Destined Death is removed, Miquella is essentially Elden Lord by default through Bewitching and its now seemingly ever lasting effects. So I think Miquella literally bewitched everybody he could, as is shown by the cinematic, he says "Brother" not a specific name, to me implying he said this to all his brothers individually and this may of even been the Bewitching vehicle idk

Trees are not literal as trees are symbolic of genealogy and lineage As ancestor and family trees grow and grow over time The world tree is symbolism of long lineages The erdtree not producing fruit as that it stopped producing demigods and empyreans Rot and decay no longer held the power of rebirth Bc Marika sealed death away This creates stagnation and degradation

we already know miquella orchestrated all of this and is responsible for Caelid being modern representation of California. Malenia whispered in Radahn's ear as she activated her ultimate that miquella is waiting. the hand at the mogwyn palace also doesnt belong to him and most probably is Godwyn's body. We can see it being carried on Mohg's back as he carries that fucking twink, most probably it is a Godwyn's true body, and Miquella put it in that cocoon so that it could die a true death and be reborn like what we see in many catacombs with dead clinging to the roots of the erdtree. he probably failed at this task and decided to use it as a portal to death realm, get it? death prince, shadow realm, where death is concentrated at that tower thingie. anyway what a fucked up femboy.

I think this games ending begins a new plot for maybe a sequel to Elden Ring. We never fight Miquella one on one, throughout the entire battle with Radahn we never really lay a hit on Miquella unless you are specifically aiming for his head. So I think Miquella is still alive and might make an appearance in the next Elden Ring? Such an abrupt ending also makes me think this is where FromSoft is going with this.

my head canon are marika sided with hornsent thus betraying her own kind, the shaman. maybe she do that to infiltrate and destroy hornsent from within, but at the time she's become a god, its too late, the shaman village is no more. and thats what i think her confession to the grandmother. confession of the betrayer

Malenia did the same thing. Milicent was her will. And at the end of that quest, we find her "sisters" I'm sure that Radagon is the same with Marika and how he came into the land. She diverted her soul into another being, thus creating Radagon who ended the adversity towards the golden order.

Marika did nothing wrong. P.S the Japanese translation of shaman village is apparently Shrine maiden village or miko village. Miko essentially meaning female shamans in english but the female connotations in japanese is very big. Miko are female shamans who are shrine maidens who take care of shrines, heal, bless and guide people. They also perform rituals so as to convey the will of the god(s) which is very interesting.

I personally think Miquella brought us to the land of shadows because he need us to open the way to the divine gate. I don’t think him divesting his aspects allowed him through the sealing tree, I think that was needed to attain godhood. I mean, if this isn’t why we’re in the realm of shadows, then why did Miquella invite us along? We’re not under his charm and are being led by grace, I could be completely wrong here but that’s my take on our journey through the shadow realm.

So basically Marika is the first Targaryen (lol jk). Hear me out, who is Maliketh and how is he Marika’s half-brother? Which parent do they share? Maybe an Ancestral Spirit or some other type of beast? Kind of unhinged but would explain the birth of her omen offspring. Radagon also has his Red Wolf, although weak compared to Maliketh, perhaps the Rune of Death and Marika’s ascension is what gave Maliketh so much power.

The statues of Marika have their heads cut off by Messmer & his army - it's because Marika abandoned them and they cut the heads off her statues symbolically EDIT: And more for you regarding the jars in Marika's age you reference at the end. Take a look at the Festive Grease's item description to see that Marika allowed some practices from the previous age to continue on in her own age. Godfrey did have his Crucible Knights, after all. The jar practices continued on in Marika's age, but in a different way. Likely taking the remains of fallen warriors (possibly from the coliseum culture that her and Godfrey set up) and using them as fertilizer for the Erdtree and minor erdtrees

Just what if? Marika perfected sainthood in the Jar and the other body used to fuze with her is Radagon. Then they passed the traits to offsprings. Horn ancestry of Mohg and Morgot has to be from the Radagon genes. Also he requires a Lord to be a God. In the cinematic, it was only Marika, meaning even before Godhood, he was also Radagon. There was also no mention of a ruling Lord on the DLC.

Empyrean Marika collaborated with Empyrean Grandam take out Empyrean Gloam-Eyed Queen back in the day. This gave her access to the Divinity Gate and the essence of the GEQ to activate it (story trailer). Then she betray Hornsent ( seduction then betrayal) to payback for Bonny Village and prevent others from accessing the Divinity Gate.

So something to note that I’ve seen JP speakers mention, the original word used for “Shaman Village” is apparently closer to “Miko”, or “Shrine Maiden”. The only time this isn’t consistent is with the “shaman” mentioned on the Greatjar helmet, which does not use the same characters. Yeaaaaaahhhhh….. they were most likely chopping up priestesses….

Marika's people didn't deserve what happened to them just like the Hornsent didn't deserve what Marika did to them. Still, I think Marikas been punished enough honestly; being stabbed and crucified for who knows how long in the Erdtree is pretty messed up on its own. She was willing to accept that punishment at least. She's not a saint but she's not an emotionless demon either. She's just a flawed monarch who created a flawed order. Same as many others in history. All of her children were born cursed (except Godwyn) and its not like she could have done anything to fix that. She was afraid of Messmer's curse and kept him hidden away from the Land's Between but she at least tried to help him by giving him healing physicks in his youth, but she couldn't undo his curse. If she had the power to undo all her children's curses I still think she would do it in a heartbeat.

I hadn't made the connection between shamans and trees before, but now that you mention it miquella was using his blood to grow the haligtree, and the crucible(where all life blends together) was stated to be the primordial form of the erdtree. Perhaps the shamans are the crucible itself, and Marika grew the erdtree using her blood to fufill a similar purpose for her own people, that would probably go some way to explaining why the hornsent would commit atrocities on such a scale to an undeserving sect of people for the sake of criminal rehabilitation. Although this theory doesn't take into account the scadutree if I remember correctly it's the shadow of the erdtree so it may still be plausible
