    Nice cleaning. I have a few fans I need to clean also as I can see dust accumulating on the fan blades. I did clean and oil a vintage Kmart box fan I found at goodwill 2 years ago. Had to disassemble the motor, clean and oil it. Also had to bend the frame back to shape the best I could. Runs better now but I need to get some deoxit in the switch because it's scratchy sounding.

    We have the same one. Too bad ours acts up every single damn year and the design is horrible. It takes forever to remove the sides to clean the coils and the wiring to the fan is easily damaged when you open up the inconveniently heavy top. Terrible thing

  • @dynatrak
    @dynatrak5 күн бұрын

    I took care of ten of these from new install in 1994, until 2005, and found it unnecessary to remove all the side panels. Just the top, and service panel, are all I removed, and never damaged the wiring. Then sprayed from the inside out. Last I checked, several are still working at age 30, so they can't be all that bad! I suppose there are lemons in every production run. I do prefer exposed coils, with a small surrounding grate, rather than the completely enclosed, as they are in this type of Ruud/Rheem unit.

Totally unrelated question I just acquired a vintage Maytag A610 can you give me any idea on how to defeat the lid switch on it? I know I could put something in there to hold it, but it always pops out very heavy spring on that button. Did you permanently disable yours?

  • @dynatrak
    @dynatrak16 күн бұрын

    Thank you! Yeah, I've heard them referred to as the "lunchbox" compressor. Many of my relatives had GE refrigerators of this vintage, so it's a huge childhood sound for me. I simply use a small wooden wedge, maybe 5-10 degree angle at most, and around 4 inches long. Slips between the lid, and top panel perfectly, and I don't have to alter anything with the wiring. I'll remember to show on my next wash video, featuring the A106.

    I enjoyed the video and the start up sound. These old refrigerators are pretty cool. Growing up we had a late 1980's Whirlpool with the freezer at the bottom and faux woodgrain handles. Last year I saw a nice Kenmore fridge on facebook from an older couple. It was in good shape and even had a ice maker. Wish I could of gotten it but it wasn't the right time to get one.

  • @dynatrak
    @dynatrak16 күн бұрын

    Thanks! I grew up around GE refrigerators of this vintage. My paternal Grandparents also had a 1982 side by side, but it was the top of the line model, in harvest wheat, with the "Custom Dispenser," for water and ice/crushed ice. Hopefully that Kenmore found a good home. I have a period correct ice maker for my '82 GE, just need to find a good way to run water to that side of the room.

  • @1ChevyGuy375
    @1ChevyGuy37516 күн бұрын

    You could run Pex or a ice maker water line along the baseboard trim and hide it with white electric wall cord covers or something similar. Tap into the kitchen sink water valve under the cabinets or closest water source. Other than that your going to have to open up the wall and run pipe through it like normal. Might be worth it if you want to use the vintage equipment.

If you want to smell the worst thing in life, buy one of these and if your able to open it correctly you will never forget that day for the rest of your life. If your close enough, it can singe your nostrils. It can be unfortunately smelled from 4 houses down! Even pets run away! Who and why in Lysol said "sure it smells good"!? This stuff is more like a torture chemical than anything. An old nieghbor used it in my prior neighborhood and it was a nighmare! All the neighbors had to beg them to stop. What an epic fail of a product.

    Hi Dynatrek, I bought a cabin recently and it has an old Maytag A106. I tried doing a load of laundry for the first time recently and have had some issues. I stumbled across your page while looking for answers. After connecting the water lines and starting my first load, it seemed to be functioning good until hitting the drain cycle when water started shooting out the drain pipe. I shut it off and found a clog in the drain pipe, which I fixed. Then when restarting the cycle, it seemed to be functioning good again until the rinse when I noticed the water was continuously on. I had to shut the inflow water valve off. Even when I shut off and unplugged the washer, if the water valve is on, it continuously flows into the washing machine. I am thinking this must be because of the water valve in the washer? which maybe shorted out when the drain overflowed? Is that what you were replacing at the beginning of the video on the backside of the washer where the inlet hose comes in?

  • @dynatrak

    I just bought my first home 2 weeks ago and it's got a NuTone heater in both bathrooms. They look really similar to yours on the bottom but they're NuTone 9285's, which are just stove-like heating elements w/o any fan. Home was built in '64 here in Huntsville, Alabama. Neither one powers on, but I haven't done any research beyond seeing a KZread comment somewhere mentioning a thermal switch/fuse type of thing that often needs to be replaced, which google seems to think costs $30 a pop. Any idea if these are worth keeping even though they're presumably a lower end model since they don't have fans? Thanks!

  • @dynatrak
    @dynatrak24 күн бұрын

    I’d check first to make sure they are connected to power. Looks like they are going fron $200-$500 bucks on eBay, so they are quite valuable. To me, worth spending $60 if both have bad thermal protection, and will work better than a modern equivalent. The fan on mine doesn’t do too much, it’s the shape that evenly radiates heat throughout the bathroom.

    Well you definitely messed up from the get-go, seasoning both sides of the burger, I mean *everyone* knows that the seasoning permeates through to the other side! I had an insurance, no, sorry, an INFLATED insurance premium to pay this month too, man that one is starting to really hurt. Can blame electric cars for that. Not even talking about the house insurance, which also went up. As for the recipe, oh yeah, that will do great, I can just tell. When I make steak I use copious amounts of garlic and onion powder. When your bottle of BBQ sauce runs out, save the cap and make yourself a little hole in the center of it, either via drill bit or plastic melting soldering iron. Voila, instant squeezy bottle, no "on the brush" required! Less mess, less to clean (says the slime guy). The ketchup conundrum, yes. That stuff definitely looked considerably thicker. Really dressed up the meal, dealing with the glass bottle. I will tell you, I think your 57 technique needs a little work. I usually use the side of my fist, bottle at easily a 45 to even 65 degree angle, and a few sharp hits should get it to go. New bottles are still sometimes hard to get started. Another tip/trick I have learned with the squeezy bottles of stuff they sell now: If you keep them in the fridge, they will have a tendency to "explode" when you flip the cap open after them sitting out of the fridge for as little as 5 minutes. The tip is to simply pop open the cap as soon as it has been taken out of the fridge. The difference in air pressure won't be there since it will be open to the atmosphere, and no explosion. There are no right nor wrong ways to make a burger. I'm certainly not going to say mine are better. This is a different entity entirely and not to be contested in any way. I do make other varieties of my burgers, but like most things, the original is the one that rings true as the clear winner every time. In fact I just made my first batch of Dirty Jay Burglers™ a week ago. We ate them all week and ended up with one left. Would you believe that neither the wif nor I wanted it? I certainly didn't want to waste it so I took a knife and made witten-sized pieces out of it. Feast of a cat lifetime! Not only did they have almost a half-pound of meat, they got their regular cans for dinner, and polished that off too. I guess they've been watching too much Garfield.

    I figured that, can't do anything right. I will keep _trying_ to improve though. Indeed, they did suck, to a degree, as well as the leftovers. I know where to go, about 1,000 miles away, where everything sucks. Yeah, I bought this one special, just for these burgers. Will keep that in mind for later on. Absolutely, I'm out of practice. However, didn't cheat, and jam a knife in there. This bottle had an odd air pocket this just didn't want to play nice. Yes! I have noticed that as well. That certainly is a great life hack to remember. Ranch dressing is real bad about exploding. Your Dirty Jay Burglers™ are in a class of their own. That's funny about the last burgler, no wonder you had to clean that bathroom! I bet they did enjoy that treat though. Might be time to worry, if the lasagna goes missing!

  • @jaykay18
    @jaykay1824 күн бұрын

    @@dynatrak Whoa, whoa, whoa, _trying to improve?_ I never heard of such a thing! I've heard of some place like that! That bottle may have had an odd air pocket for the same reason Whirlpool washers suck now. They had a great design that was serving them well for almost 25 years, and they gave the blueprints to Millennials and told them to redesign it. So when you give them blueprints for an archaic glass ketchup bottle filling machine, this is what you end up with. Yes, it works with dressings as well! I just figured out the physics of why, and solved the problem. Thanks. That wasn't actually the reason we needed to clean the bathroom. Now if xjoe81x had been over, there'd be a real good reason! The wittens loved every bit of it. And you're right, they like that too. Fortunately they haven't figured out how to open the fridge yet.

    THIS LAWNMOWER IS A PAIN IN THE BUTT TO WORK ON. THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS ONE BIG MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AS FAR AS DESIGN. THE BRACKET WHERE THE CABLE CONNECTS IS TOO RIGID WHICH CAUSES IT TO PUT UNNECESSARY WEAR ON THE CABLE AND WILL CAUSE THE MOWER TO FAIL TO START. FURTHERMORE THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS EXCLUSIVE TO THE TORO HANDLE IT CAME ON. I TRIED PUTTING THIS ON A CRAFTSMAN DECK WITH PREVIOUSLY HAD A BRIGGS ON IT. THE BOLTS HOLES WERE THE SAME BUT THE BRAKE CABLE DOES NOT FIT ON THE CRAFTSMAN HANDLE BECAUSE THE HANDLE DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME HOLES ON THE HANDLE. BUT IT GETS WORSE IF YOU NEED TO DO A FLY WHEEL KEY ON THE TECUMSEH WHEN YOU TRY TO PUT THE FLY WHEEL BACK ON BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY IS UNDER THE FLY WHEEL AND YOU NEED TO DEACTIVATE THE BRAKE BEFORE PUTTING THE FLY WHEEL BACK ON. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LIKE I DO NOW AND NEED TO DO A FLY WHEEL KEY IT BECOMES A PROBLEM. BRIGGS NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE BRAKE SPRING IS ON THE SIDE OF TH ENGINE NOT UNDER THE FLY WHEEL.

    I haven't had the flywheel off the Tecumseh yet, sounds like a pain! Thankfully just my brake cable needed to be replaced, and that took 10 minutes to complete. I had the flywheel off my 1982 Briggs to service the points, and condenser, last year. That one is pretty easy to work on. Fortunately, no engine brake to worry about, as it was manufactured just before the engine brake mandate went into effect.

    @@dynatrak ANY IDEAS? I AM THINKING MY ONLY CHANCE TO GET THE FLY WHEEL BACK ON S TO LOOSEN THE MOUNTING SCREWS ON THE BRAKE CABLE BRACKET ON THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE. BUT THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES THAT THAT MAY WORK.

    @@dynatrak HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE CABLE AS A RESULT OF WEAR TEAR FROM PULLING THE CABLE ON THE BRACKET THAT HARDLY MOVES TO DEACTIVATE THE BRAKE?

    @@daveshostack4950 First cable lasted 20 years. I saw it about to break last year, so that's when it was replaced, before it broke. Just had a couple strand left hanging on.

    @@daveshostack4950 Since I haven't had to remove the flywheel on mine, I have no clue what the job entails. Might Google search for a service manual. That's probably what I'll do, just to have one for future repairs.
